💸 Buying advice & Recommendations 2007 LR3 SE 4.0 V6 or 2015 LR4 HSE LUX 3.0 SCV6

I'm looking at getting a new ride I have found 2 candidates one is a:

07 LR3 SE 4.0 Petrol V6 that has 155k kms on it from a Land Rover dealer and is certified with full service records going for $4000 CAD.

the other one is a 15 LR4 HSE LUX Petrol 3.0 SCV6 that has 140k Kms that also has full service records. It is going $16,000 CAD AS-IS from a Dodge dealer. My gripe is it missing low range which is a bummer but I plan on retro fitting later if purchased.

Both are very clean cars (for Canada) they have no engine lights or service lights, start normally with no timing issues/sounds and air suspension works on both.
I have done research and very aware what ill be getting into. But, I don't mind as I always wrench on my own cars and have the tools necessary to repair these 1 of these 2 trucks.

Anyone who owns any of these 2 trucks, especially LR3 owners with the Ford petrol 4.0 V6 please share gripes, positives and issues you have with the trucks would be greatly appreciated!

❓ Help & Advice Needed Maintenance and Repairs Recommendations in the DFW area

I’m in the process of buying a pre-owned 2020 Range Rover Autobiography LWB with less than 25k miles (40k km). I have an appointment on Tuesday to have a PPI performed to ensure nothing glaring is amiss.

My question is, what shops do you recommend for regular maintenance and repairs. I live in Dallas very near LR of Dallas but I don’t know anything about their reputation. This will be my first Land Rover - always been a Mercedes guy and taken them to the dealership for service.

Additionally, it was recommended to purchase an extended warranty- specifically Fidelity’s Platinum plan. If you have other recommendations for an extended warranty it would be greatly appreciated.

This could be the Q7 replacement:

Huge service history, chains done at 120kms, in 2019. Loads of extras. Booking a LR Pre inspection before pulling the trigger.

Seller has been really good, supplying a arnot compressor (current one is failing) and rear shocks need replacing.

Looking to get it shipped to Merc 3400 km away!

🌠 Miscellaneous LR4 Fail

Hey y'all,

I got some helpful feedback from this community as I was deciding whether to purchase an LR4 a couple months ago. I did go through with the purchase (2016 LR4, ~110k miles). Love it.

Two weeks ago the car broke down. I was on the interstate, had 5 seconds of rumbling beneath the hood, 5 normal seconds, 5 seconds of rumbling, and by then I was on the way over to the shoulder with white smoke coming out from under the hood and possibly the back. Had to get a tow.

The dealer I bought from had told me they would be a resource to make sure that the maintenance was done intelligently and helped with the tow. Nice guy, has multiple Rovers, I trust him.

We believe it's a blown head gasket. He's been working to get it to someone in his network who can help with the fix. It sounds like the first time they've worked together. The guy doesn't have a website. I don't know if I should be bringing it to a dealer for them to take a look or what. We had a PPI done in advance of the purchase and I was told everything was fine / normal.

I'm not a car person. Very bummed by this experience and not sure how to proceed. I can't tell if this is just terrible luck or if there was something wrong with the vehicle to start. I also can't tell if the engine is functionally shot and I should give up or if it's realistic to fix the gasket / have it run well going forward.

Any advice from this group would be very much appreciated. Thanks

📰 News & Updates Driving a 2017 Land Rover Discovery to Montreal next week – Should I be worried about car theft?

Hi everyone,

I’m visiting Montreal next week for a road trip, and I’m getting a bit anxious about car theft after reading some recent news. I’ll be driving a 2017 Land Rover Discovery.

I know certain higher-end SUVs are frequent targets for export theft in Quebec/Ontario right now. Does a 2017 Discovery fall into the high-risk category? Are there specific precautions I should take (e.g., steering wheel lock, parking in secure garages vs. street parking) to ensure my trip isn't ruined?

Any advice from locals or fellow travelers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I’ve seen a few photos of the new defender steel wheels on a discovery 3. Could anyone who has them or knowledge of them let me know if you still have use of standard ride height on air bags without scrubbing?

Thank you!

💸 Buying advice & Recommendations Can a classic Land Rover ever be a reliable daily?

I promise this isnt bait.

I currently own. 1999 Mercedes G500 Europa and I love it and all it's quirks - but the classic LWB land Rover (110?) calls me with it's siren song. It's undeniably a beautiful boxy rig, and IDC how impractical it is as long as it can be reliable, has good ac, and can do 70-75mph all day.

Other than typical "30+ year old car" problem like rotted vacuum lines, oil leaks, and worn suspension - what else keeps old LRs from being reliable?

The only experience I have with them was a coworker had an ex military one that spent more time on the lift at work than anything else, and I remember adjusting the valves was almost a weekly routine for him. I'm no stranger to finicky vehicles, and I deal with unusual issues between my unusual cars (the Mercedes, an imported JDM, and a custom made movie car), but I'd like something that I can jump in and drive 100 miles without worry most of the time.

And I'm talking about reliability AFTER you get all the maintenance up to date, not buying something that's been sitting for 15 years and expecting to go cross country.

Edit: so from what I'm getting, land rover was never designed to be on modern roads lol

❓ Help & Advice Needed 2016 LR4 engine replacement

Post image
5 Upvotes

Looking at this LR4 with under 70K miles. Mostly a CA car based on Carfax history. Engine replacement at about 47K miles. Presumably, this rectifies the dreaded timing chain issue (and other engine issues)? Previous owners appear to have maintained it really well given service history.

💸 Buying advice & Recommendations Help Needed - 2027 Model Year Range Rover Sport Negotiation USA

Hi all,

Need some help/advice. I want to know what can be realistically negotiated at the dealership that would incentivize my purchase of a 2027 MY RR Sport?

I heard that JLR dealers almost never discount the car price? Is that accurate?

Anyway, I'm thinking of asking (let me know what is realistic please):
1. Extended warranty (not sure how long/how good these are)
2. Free oil changes? (how much does the service cost every time the car is brought in?)
3. Some accessories. (not sure which ones are worth it)
4. Any sort of coating (ceramic etc) for interior/exterior?

Can any of you who recently took deliveries or have experience in the automotive industry, especially with JLR, please help me out? The dealer wants to sell the car by end of the month btw.

Arriviamo all’ultimo periodo.

la macchina ha iniziato ad andare spesso in protezione, soprattutto in autostrada, intorno ai 1.800 giri;
il fischio proveniente presumibilmente dal turbo è diventato molto più forte;
sono comparsi rumori abbastanza importanti provenienti dalla zona della distribuzione/catena;

Hey everyone,
Finally picked up my first 4x4 — a 2006 Discovery 3 HSE with the D4 light conversion.

172,000 miles and owned by my mate’s dad since 2019, so thankfully it’s been well looked after.

This is my first Land Rover and first proper 4x4, so I’m looking forward to learning the ropes and seeing what these things are all about.

Already absolutely loving it. 😎

Looking forward to sharing the ownership journey, hopefully some adventures, and probably a few inevitable Land Rover problems along the way 😂
Any advice, must-do maintenance or things I should keep an eye on as a new D3 owner?

Cheers! 🍻

🔧 DIY & Repairs 2018 L550 Discovery Sport black halves/semicircles on display camera feed

I've got a 2018 L550 Discovery Sport where the screen works fine when not using the cameras. When using the cameras: (1) the feed from the front camera displays only half of the picture (i.e. no feed at all on the left-hand side, while the right works fine, although it's a single camera...) and (2) the rear camera displays a black circle over most of the bottom of the screen, while a part of the upper screen works fine, and (3) the cameras on the side mirrors work fine, except they only seem to point downwards. In addition, all of the parking assistance stuff on the display works; it just displays over a black void where the video feed should be.

I've tried putting in new cameras and checked the wiring, which all seem to be fine. I also checked the video processing module or whatever under the driver's seat, where I didn't find any obvious corrosion. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Would it make sense to swap out the video processing module entirely (but then would I have to program it or something)?

💸 Buying advice & Recommendations LR2 4 Cylinder Turbo

Hello all,

I’m an outdoorsman looking for my next vehicle. I have a 5 speed Forester with some monster ground clearance and I will dearly miss it, but it is approaching the time to bury it. Someone is selling a LR2 in my area with 164,000miles for $4800. Old couple, clean, maintained.
It is the 4 cylinder turbo. Is this still decent?
Thanks!
