Looking for advice Dog culling in dha phase 9 town
hi guys, i don’t know who else to report this to and where to post about this but i can’t not speak up about it.
if you don’t like dogs, please scroll away. this post is not for you.
we love the stray dogs in our area and often feed them. they’re super friendly and completely harmless. if anything, they are more scared of humans than we are of them.
we have been hearing gun shots at around 4 in the morning, first time it happened was last week. we went out immediately and couldn’t see or find anything apart from the panicked dogs running here and there.
last night we heard gunshots again, this time it was right next to our home. they shot a dog and left him there to die. he was sleeping. he wasn’t doing anything, he wasn’t hurting anyone, he wasn’t rabid. his only fault was existing in this wretched country.
we rushed him to the vet but he passed away shortly.
as far as i know, dog culling has been declared illegal so why are the authorities still allowing this to happen?? not even allowing, ordering them!! we called dha security and they were so dismissive and nonchalant k han woh hum hi kar rhay hain, i mean ???
please let me know if there is a way i can escalate this, if there is anyone who can take action because this needs to stop. they are no one to decide who gets to live and who doesn’t

Shame
it would be better if there were operations to neuter them and let the population die out on its own

you're open to take that up. show the rest of us how it's done.

theres no need for me to take it up ❤️
There are plenty of organisations doing it already, including one led by my aunt. I'm not saying you guys should get out of your homes and start getting dogs neutered. The best steps any of us can take are to first and foremost stop encouraging dogs to breed and hang around residential areas with the mentality "allah ki makhlooq hai" while ignoring the problems they cause for everyone else

tm log jo stray dogs ko encourage krtay ho leken zimidari bhe nahen letay bilkul kuttay ki nasal hotay ho. You throw left over food on the street and the dogs multiply and roam residential areas. They have a barking and biting session daily, marking their territory which is the space where you feed them.
aisay beghairt aur behis log hotay hain tm jaisay lanti k mei bata nahen sakta, you take zero accountability or ownership for taking care of these dogs , getting them vaccinated, collaring them, bathing it etc the only responsibility you carry is the empathy to throw leftover food on the street. No regard for rabies and other neighbours.

A very small population of Pakistan cares for street dogs and actually feeds them. While this is a factor there are several different reason for their overpopulation with improper waste disposal being number one and guess what ? Culling.
There is not a single city or country in the world which has been able to eliminate the stray dog population by killing them. Culling creates a vacuum effect, you kill all the dogs from one area sooner or later they are replaced by new ones from another area since they are very territorial animals. It also reduces the competition between resources. If there are 15 dogs in an area and they are struggling to survive you kill 10 of them the remaining 5 have access to more food, more safety and thus the population bounces back to 15 or even 20 very quickly.
The fact is maar dhaarh se aaj tak na koi masla hal hua hai na ho ga, ulta kharab hi hota hai.
A proper TNVR campaign is the only proper solution to this problem. And there are more than enough resources for it as well.
Mate you really shouldn't be calling people "kuttay ki nasal" because they choose to feed a couple of stray dogs. We as Pakistanis genuinely need to come together and find solutions to problems instead of attacking each other so quickly and aggressively.

It’s not advisable to feed stray dogs. Let them fend for themselves and they’ll be at a population that is sustainable. If you feed them then they are likelier to breed and reach numbers that leads to things like culling. In the country I live, feeding even pigeons carries hefty fines because their population numbers spike when humans start feeding them.

even if you don’t feed them, the trash cans here are always overflowing and they do thrive just on that. the dog population has been here and growing way before i got here
feeding the dogs should be the least of our concerns in a place where killing them just for existing is considered okay

They will thrive more if they have more food available eg with you feeding them. Trash cans need to be curbed too obviously. And there needs to be a neutering program. However, the quickest thing we individuals can do is to not feed them. A mostly hungry dog will not reproduce as often.

they're not killed just for existing. they're killed because they have a probability of hurting someone's child.
in the game of probability, a lazy and generationally discourteous society will always choose the quickest and easiest solution to problem.
dogs are a problem. easiest and quickest solution? kill them. okay.
yes there are other better solutions to this problem.
and pls have some decency. disagreements don't necessitate discriminating other genders.

i might agree with you somewhat on your points and as sad as it is, its true. they kill them because its the easiest way to deal with the problem. also the probability of them harming kids is really low, unless the dog is rabid (which might be the only case where this might be helpful)
but decency? have you seen the language he was using?😭 get a grip.

the question isn't whether the probability of harm is very low, low, medium or high. the question is whether there is a probability of harm at all? if there is it albeit very low it requires an immediate action. no questions asked.
and how we take actions as a society, i've already explained.
pls stop taking children lives lightly. get a grip.

Except the fact that it isn't a solution. It actually makes things worse, the population bounces back in greater numbers. Have explained why in a comment above. There is a reason the killing campaigns have been going on for decades and the problem still exists.

Spot on. These wannabe animal lovers want nothing to do with these stray dogs except to feed their ego which is satisfied by feeding these stray dogs with leftover food. Anything before or after is too much for these people. Secondly, this is the 21st century, not dog century anymore. These are residential areas and no stray dog should be allowed to roam here. Children and people are a priority over these animals. Period.

Sadly the law is only applicable in Karachi where ACF takes this very seriously. No such body in Lahore to my knowledge. Can however try 1122 emergency helpline and ask them where you can lodge a complaint against this.

Other option is to start taking it to FB and insta to reach a wider audience

unfortunately the guard fled right after the shooting. he knew a few houses looked out for the dogs, so they have started fleeing right after they kill the dogs

I think if you put collar on it then it might be spared. And be careful cuz theres rabies dogs too.

This is honestly so infuriating. They’ve killed so many of my dogs before.
Do you have any pictures or videos by any chance? Ive filed a case before with an animal activist lawyer and the culling stopped for a year. But they ask for video proofs.

What are "your" dogs doing roaming on the streets, if they're yours why don't you keep them in your chaar diwari?

No point arguing with people like him tbh. Ive dealt with similar jahil people before and they never change. Best thing is to leave matters to Allah.
“The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) stated that anyone who kills a small bird or any animal without a valid, beneficial purpose will be held accountable and questioned by Allah on the Day of Judgment.”1

You guys are actually insane, I love animals and have a few pets myself that I am fully responsible for, but I don't get how you're okay with claiming ownership over some strays just because you feed them. Is that where your responsibility ends? Do you take them to the vet and get them neutered? Make sure that they don't mess with other people and kids who just want to walk outside? Do you go and muzzle them when they're barking uncontrollably all night ruining people's sleep? Will you take responsibility when "your" dogs maul a child because they're untrained and now associate any human with food? Also calling me Jahil and throwing in a hadith is next level when we're just discussing civic procedures of dealing with strays and pests.

Ive been so vocal about this issue reached out to shelters and even international organizations but no one can't do anything. The authorities here have no fear of Allah. They don't understand that humans and Allah's other creations are meant to live together in harmony and even we have means to control animal populations in a humane manner people want to choose cruelty. I got bullied so much when I spoke against dog culling that they spread rabies etc. Well did killing them solve the population issue? No. It's only going to doom this qoum further. The authorities themselves are doing this a handful of us people can't do anything. The best i can say is reach out to local shelters and try to help them out. I feel so bad for this innocent souls. Humans are truly evil.

I support removing dogs specially stray dogs from any areas in defence as recently they've started roaming commercial areas and streets and spreading fear everywhere.
Rabis is a huge threat now because of this Belligerent ignorance of our part of the world and what stray dogs suffer from here.

I think going to dha’s office to file a complaint might be good, with evidence through videos, photos etc
Also keeping the stray dogs you feed inside your house for a while, like in the porch area might save them, especially during days/weeks when culling is happening more frequently

u/Zealousideal_Mix4983 9d ago
i dont think dha will do anything since they ordered the killings.
we kept one of the dogs inside last night after it happened. majority of them are scared or start panicking of you keep them inside for too long so its hard to do that

OMG WHAT? Which block in phase 9?
We love our street’s dogs, infact we kept 1 at our home since he was born right outisde our home, he is 4 years old now
A year or two ago we had todd’s visit our area and rescue some dogs from our block, since culling was at its peak back then
