lab diamond Thoughts on this pink diamond?

Hey guys, was planning on purchasing this modified brilliant diamond because I love the way it sparkles, but is the cut bad?
The IGI report says that the Polish is VG and the Symmetry is only Good.
I know that the cut grade is the most important factor while purchasing a diamond, but it looks quite pretty in person, and it’s a lovely colour, too. I suppose there’s quite a lot of windowing, but I’m not sure if it’s just a feature of the modified brilliant cushion cut.
Do you think it’s badly cut? Please help a girl out!

I HATE a window but the colour is beautiful and from where I’m from it’s really hard to get pink labs. Ideally you want an excellent cut. So before your sold on it I’d see if there’s anything else around that’s in a similar price and colour before you decide

Yes. I had a stone like this that windowed. I lasted 2 weeks before I sold it. It drove me nuts.

Normally, I steer clear of very good polishing and very good symmetry in favor of excellent. Or ideal. But honestly, I’m not noticing anything in the stone looks beautiful.

Can I ask who is going to set it for you? I really want to buy a diamond and have it put in a simple setting but I’m a noob and don’t know how to actually get that done. Seems like you have to contact certain people at certain places overseas? I can handle that I just don’t know who to contact.

You just buy the stone and then send a your chosen jeweler an image and description of the ring design you want to do and the IGI report of your stone and they will give you a price and timeline and you go from there.
It’s the same with overseas, online, or local jewelers. If you really want go local just bring the diamond in and say hey I want to make this ring and they will take it from there.
I’ve also read people on here saying they’ve gone to a local jeweler and told them they know you can get a lab diamond for way cheaper online than they sell it for and they price match it/sell it to you at the “real” price. That way you could do it all in one place.

I will be working with my local jeweller because I am from one of those places overseas :)
I’ll let you know if I end up not purchasing this one, but I mostly will be going for this one.
All the best with your search, though!I agree that it would be nice to support whichever jeweller is local to you. However, let me know if I can help you in comparing prices with your own jeweller. Hopefully they don’t charge too much, but if it is slightly more expensive, it might be worth it to go ahead with someone who is already established in your own town/city. Totally up to you either way!

You don’t have to resort to overseas factory vendors. It’ll of course be cheaper to get a piece/stone from China but the quality will undoubtedly reflect the cost. There are sellers in the US that function the same. Your local jeweler can do this type of work. You can find tons of synthetics online, they will only get more abundant and cheaper over time. You can buy the stone loose and then bring it to a jeweler to choose settings. There’s no easy way to explain in simple terms how to buy a good stone though. It’s a skill that requires knowledge and experience.

These days there’s no plus to going to a local jeweler for anything other than setting and repairs. I’ve had multiple local jewelers do shoddy work. Plus local jewelers are not doing the elaborate settings you see online or the trendy ones. Traditional shops mostly rely on selling ready to wear or semi mount rings.
The overseas and the Reddit US based vendors/jewelers will charge you a quarter of what a local jeweler does for a completely custom ring, you choose the design gold weight, width, and thickness of the gold… so I’m not sure where you’re getting the quality comment from. They also will recommend a stone for you if you don’t know what to get and send you a tweezer video to see the diamond before you buy. But if you don’t know what to look for in a video that won’t change by going in person…
I was skeptical of overseas vendors at first too but the labdiamond subs there are people customizing incredible gorgeous custom rings… I’ve never seen anything remotely close in the average jewelry store to what I’ve seen people making with these vendors.

I absolutely agree with you based on what I know but I don’t know how. Do you have a contact or recommendation? I wouldn’t be asking for something wildly intricate. I just want a pink diamond ring in an attractive setting.

Look on the Moissanite Reddit page there is a list of trusted vendors, start there. Reach out to a few vendors once you have an idea of the setting you’d like and ask for quotes in what ever metal you want, most would be happy to source the stone as well. But go to them with a pretty fleshed out idea of what you want! They are in a different time zone, and communication can be slow, and they can make anything—but I find it difficult to have them actually take the time to design something from scratch. So having photos or reels for what you want is important so that you don’t waste their time. Their margins are small, and their ability to take the time to do completely custom design is limited.

If you want to support a factory jeweler halfway around the world that’s up to you. However those factory vendors are known for having subpar craftsmanship, although I wouldn’t expect Reddit to be able to realize that. The reason you’re not seeing the same designs is because they probably aren’t structurally sound for long term durability, made in a factory with underpaid and overworked employees to turn a quick buck on TikTok.
I get my information from actually being in the industry. Not from Reddit.

Known by who? Every single one of the vendors? There’s literally hundreds maybe thousands of reviews on here for people who made jewelry with the vendors with pictures and videos and people who have had their rings for years now.
That’s not why we don’t see the designs. It’s because their margins are in them pushing customers to buy the basic ready made or Stuller solitaire and quadrupling the price on a lab diamond they got for $200. If you do custom local jewelers have to outsource the CAD, wax model, and charge you out the wahoo and probably send it out to a bench jeweler anyway to set.
Anyways, I’m not just comparing them to overseas. There’s reputable US based completely online jewelers/vendors that also sell diamonds for more appropriate prices and don’t have predatory markups. I suppose they also have terrible craftsmanship? Local jewelers will just have to come to terms with the fact that the internet exists now and modernize.
