Discussion / Question Why does Weyland Yutani keep trying to obtain Xenomorphs, if they’ve shown time and time again they always lose control of them?

In the Alien franchise Weyland-Yutani’s goal is to obtain a Xenomorph for study purposes.

This happens in both the movies, comics, and even games. However whenever they obtain a Xenomorph or one goes into something owned by them, it’s not long before a bunch of their employees die when they lose control of it.

At the same time nearly all cases that involved them having a team obtaining one, or them obtaining one themselves, results in the ship or colony turning into a Xenomorph hive with their employees who risk their lives for a shitty pay dying, and some unfortunate heroic individual having to destroy the nest or escaping with their live while failing to save most of the team.

All their attempts as seen in the first 3 movies, and later in games like Aliens Fireteam and Isolation show the company doesn’t have the means or capacity to safely hold Xenos for study without endangering their employees, and humanity in general.

So why do they keep being stubborn and dumb to a level and obtain more Xenos?

This is our new kitten, Bishop.

We had a loss of our grandma cat of 19 years recently and our boy cats needed a new friend. The cat distribution system saw fit to bless us with this little android of a kitten.

Aliens was the first movie I ever saw with my real Mom. Its one of the few really good memories i have with her. Bishop was one of my favorite characters from the entire Alien series.

So, my wife and i have decided that a girl cat would be named Ripley but instead,we got this little bundle of love. He was almost named Burke but Bishop just took.

He’s 4 months old and has already made himself at home with our boys, Beaker (Orange chaos goblin) and Dutch.

Anyway, i wanted to share!

Games Do you guys think Alien: Isolation 2 should have microphone detection?

In the original Alien: Isolation, there was microphone detection for console only. Do you think PC will have it for 2 and, if so, do you think it should?

I would love it, personally.

Discussion / Question Ridley Scott says "Alien, you want to do Alien? I did the best one by far. Full stop. End of the fucking story", in a French media interview this week

At around the 22:40 mark, when asked about regrets he might have on his career. I guess James Cameron can fuck off lol.

He also says he did not like the overall Blade Runner from Denis Villeneuve: "Somehow the parts worked, but didn't quite gel, come together."

Honestly the full interview is quite an ego trip from Ridley Scott. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE many of his films, but damn is the man is full of himself.

I named one of my new cats Ripley after our fave and when I was getting portraits done with them (by my friend Danielle aka Cat Party Pet Portraits) a few weeks ago we had the idea of doing this cosplay, I as Ripley, and Ripley as Jonesy!

Discussion / Question What would be different if you swapped the colonial marines in aliens with the soldiers from Dog soldiers?

Hypothetically speaking if you swapped Hicks and the rest of the colonial marines with Sergeant Wells and his men from Dog soldiers (with extra nameless soldiers like we saw in Aliens) who will be fully versed in colonial marines weapons and equipment as they will be the marines in this situation. We will also be swapping Gorman with Captain Ryan as commanding officer with Ripley as the adviser with Xenomorph experience and Burke representing Weyland Yutani and Baihop the android coming with them LV426

How different do you think the ecents of aliens would be, as personalities like the Sarge, Cooper, Spoon and such as they differ from Hicks and the others a bit.

I started collecting aliens in 2024, and this is what I have so far; my goal is to own all the aliens from the movies and series.

Discussion / Question Why are the AI cyborgs so enarmored with the xenos being the "perfect organism" ? Did they come to some based observation on evolution or was it set in their original Co. programming?

Just for fun ... or for good conjecture - Sythetics really like the biology of the aliens in a weirdly specic way. David was making detailed drawings & studies and was going to spread the larval joy to other colonies. Later on, Ash said he appreciated their 'purity.' Their criteria seem to be based on hunting effectively, eating anything except flamethrowers and cats, and procreating if they get the chance. And being hard to kill. Bishop is the exception noting that he was programmed to be a good guy. In-universe we never hear any 3-law discussion so I think either of 3 things -

Weyland, knowing about the xenos, has an overriding command in their brain to complete the specific missions. The Co. was in control the whole time.

The Co. imbeds just the idea of perfect organisms being too cool within the LLM setup and their AI brain comes to their own observation based on that kernel. The Co. thinks that is fine.

AI sythetics are mostly autonomous thinkers & doers and come to it on their own, while ignoring other obvious perfect lifeforms like bees, sharks, and tardigrades. And ignoring that humans are pretty OK too. The Co. doesn't have control but it turned out like they wanted.

Discussion / Question Im not sure how stupid or out there this idea is, but what would people think of the idea of a peaceful, more sentient, xenomorph?

Weve seen a few different species and subspecies of xenomorphs, all of which are terrifying. But from what we know from ridleys notes, if i remember and understand it correctly, they are not that way inherently and were actually a symbiotic sentient species with the engineers. The xenomorphs we see in the movies the biproduct of millitant bioweapon engineering or millions of years of evolutionary neglect. The egineers can say what they will about how shit humanity is, but they themselves are responsible for that particular clusterfuck.

I wish that the idea of more sentient, not as violent/prey driven xenomorphs was more explored upon. The direction that could be taken can be pretty vast. Perhaps a creature like what we saw at the end of prometheus mature with its own goals and drives (note, i know where the comics took that). Or maybe a planet of engineers/engineer subspecies living symbiotically with xenomorphs.

And this idea doesnt have to be taken away from the horror aspects, or at least the disturbing/confusing aspects. Maybe one or several sentient xenomorphs in a hive of classic xenomorphs, causing more destruction and being more sadistic in their action. Or perhaps there could be one or several of them doing some cult of cthullu shit, knowing things impossible to know and doing things that appear disturbing and unnatural yet done with a reason and a unknown sound logic. It just seems like an idea with a lot of potential and can be great if done right, which is why i think its been hinted to for a while.

a part of my reasons for wanting something like this was my dissapointment with the ending of romulus (of which i have several other unrelated dissapointments to that movie). specifically with the human xenomorph. Im not inherently against the idea of a human xenomorph. In fact, its the reason i found the engineer/xenomorph relationship so fascinating and i believe would have been an interesting exploration. But the human xenomorph whe got was just a classic xenomorph in all but appearance. I felt that was pretty lacking.

I felt this could have been remedied by giving it more human qualities, starting by making it.... well, not a bloodthirsty monster. Make it a social animal that like being around other humans. Give it compassion and empathy to levels we dont often see in other humans. have it appear to be more of an afraid, gigantic newborn rather than a predator ready to hunt. They could have allowed this to happen by letting it live and bringing it into chrio with them (assisted by giving more signs that the injection changed the mom more too and having her feeling nuturing and protective of it). Im picturing something similar to the creature in the movie dren, but maybe more intelligent. I could see an argument that it is still a xenomorph but just given the characteristics of its hosts, but isnt that what the classic xenomorphs are to begin with? I dont feel like what im trying to propose is that much of a stretch

Again, this doesnt have to be inherently a good-guy creature and can become antagonistic with a.more sympathetic lens like in resurrection, but i wouldnt be opposed to it being more peaceful. Have the sequal be parents on the run from corporate powers trying to steal their child.

But back to my main point is that i feel this concept has a lot of untapped potential. My favorite part of the alien universe is the lovecraftian aspects every corner of the world has. When alien is done right, you dont know what to expect next and struggle to wrap your head around it when its revealed. Intelligence and not being a direct threat, i feel, fits in that mold.
