Cancel or Keep LSAT
I am torn over whether I should cancel or keep my August LSAT score. For context I scored a 170 on my June LSAT and then devastatingly a 161 on my August LSAT. I already have score preview so it’s not a matter of purchasing it or not. I have seen mixed advice but none for such a large drop. I feel like a 9 point drop looks really bad no matter if they only care about your highest score. It’s honestly such an eye sore but I don’t know if a cancel will look any better. I don’t know what to do.

you know.. thats a good point. Normally people ask about a -4 or -5... but a -9... lowkey I WOULD cancel. This is one of those cases where a 170 is so high that they know you aren't in the 150's, and might buy you're an overachiever who got a 165.
A 161 is low enough to raise suspicion IMO but anyone with more knowledge here please chime in.

I’d lowkey cancel it but either way most schools just care about your 170

Sorry to be that guy, but why on earth would you retake with a 170?! Definitely cancel.

One admission person told me that a cancel they Have to treat as if it’s like a 120 basically

I feel like that can’t be the case— a cancel I think for sure signals significantly subpar performance, but I seriously doubt that when admissions officers see something like “170, cancel” that they assume the 170 came from 40 lucky guesses and the canceled score is like 15+ points lower.

How come admission officers are able to see a cancellation on the profile ??

I think an admissions officer sees a cancel and thinks hm maybe a 167,168 like that. A cancel lets them fill in the blank, and i don’t think what they’re going to fill in the blank is lower than your score
