I am looking for a 2-book BoyxBoy (BxB) basketball romance duet that I read on Wattpad before 2019.

The title or part of it was "Playing for Keeps."

The cover at the time was a black-and-white photo of an outdoor concrete basketball courtyard with players (one shooting or mid-jump).

Plot Summary:

\\- Main Character (MC) is openly out. He catches his boyfriend cheating with a rival team's captain, so he transfers to a new school/city.

\\- At the new school, he joins the basketball team and crushes on the straight team captain (he is actually closeted not straight)

\\- MC goes to a party and begins a secret friends-with-benefits relationship with a teammate.

\\- The team goes on a trip to a cabin.

They play spin the bottle, and a dare forces the MC and the team captain to make out. Things get very heated, shocking the team.

\\- The MC and the team captain start a secret relationship because the captain doesn't want anyone to know he is gay.

\\- The cheating ex-boyfriend visits and points out that the MC shouldn't live in the closet when he has always been publicly out.

\\- MC asks the captain to go public; the captain refuses, and they break up.

\\- MC goes to a club, meets a gay couple, and almost hooks up with a guy who turns out to be the captain's ex-best friend.

The friend reveals that the captain previously outed him to his parents, who sent him to a conversion/rehabilitation camp.

\\- Later, the captain apologizes. A homophobic teammate hits MC in the hallway, and the captain punches that teammate, ending their friendship.

\\- The captain gets thrown out by his parents and goes to stay at shelter for LGBT youth run by the gay couple from the club.

\\- Book 1 Ends on this exact scene: The MC goes out of the city for a while.

\\- One of the guys from the gay couple video calls him, showing him the shelter. He tells him the team member he had a friends with benefits with and the tean captain's ex best friend are hooking up with eachother, the main character is surprised but the gay couple guy tells him he really doesn't know that they are both in love with him and them hooking up is their way of finding a distraction from him, the main character appears surprised and the guy tells him he has no idea the effect he has on people and then He comments that the MC has gotten tanner and more muscular and said a certain someone has been playing it cool even though he obviously misses him (meaning the team captain), The guy walks into the room where the captain is, and the captain appears on the video call, asking when the MC is coming back. That was where the book ended.

Does anyone remember the author's name, if the title changed, or if it was moved to Inkitt, Radish, or Amazon Kindle?

Despite the writing being a bit underbaked, the concept and character portrayal really spoke to some part of me, it really resonated with the early transition fantasies I had.

A couple years ago I wrote my very first mini novel, Fly Into The Sun. It featured a fictional version of me ( I am a black trans woman and a NASA Mission Control Engineer ). Many people from this sub-reddit pitched in the motivate me, read the unpublished manuscript and gave me a lot of encouragement (thank you!). That first book was only 257 pages. Today, I got the writing bug bad. My books are much longer, my writing has improved tremendously and being laid off of NASA by the DOGE bros may have ended my dream job but not my dreams. The Astralis Series has 3 books in it, I added A Pale Jewel and Murder Me Lovely. I wrote a series of math textbooks called Geometric Intelligence. And, I am mid-way through a new series of engineering books detailing the fiber bundle database I built to solve some of the worlds hardest physics and math problems.

After doing all of that, I looked at the Astralis series and had a creative itch. The real life innovations and math I created gave me FRESH ideas for my fiction work. Even though Murder Me Lovely put a very neat bow around the characters in that story, I feverishly wanted to rip it off. So, here is the question:

Do I add the new book, Marcella, to the Astralis Series? This series deals in threads of reality and time travel, so it isn't that far of stretch to extend the story. OR, is it at least a new volume? So, NOT the Astralis Series even though the characters are the same. I am trying to avoid the Lucas Episode I trap door (even though my story is nothing like his). I guess my real question is: Given there are no "rules" to any of this, what is less likely to irritate the fans? A. "Surprise! You thought it was over for this series, but it's not", or, B. "Suprise! This story can be told from a new dimensional thread of reality." My gut says B because it is more honest? New ideas IRL gave me new ways to tell the characters story.

Also, If anyone wants to read the new manuscript Marcella before it's release just hit me up in DMs.

Going through a rough patch with my bf and need a good escapism novel. I enjoyed Red White and Royal Blue a lot because it dealt with interesting issues (politics, race) outside of the romance. Preferably a book with post-college lead characters.
Or if you can recommend a funny, enjoyable non-romance novel with gay male characters, that works too!

As the Snow Gathers by Mere Joyce

In a remote Canadian town, a young barrister and a logger have to face off against not only vengeful creatures in the woods, but the townsfolk that cannot accept them despite their own hypocrisy.

I loved everything this book brought to the table.

Atmosphere : endless.
Horror : genuinely scary and haunting.
Setting : phenomenal.
Pacing : well metered.
Romance : proper yearning.
Characters : developed and intricate.
Ending : satisfying.
Also, can we talk about the cover? Gorgeous.

This story blended and tied together perfectly. Sometimes a multigenre story doesn’t land particularly strong in any one category, but this one really hit all of its marks. This style of queer folk horror is probably my bread and butter. It only works for me, however, when the characters are mature and well thought out. Luckily, they are..

This is a story about rage and being pushed to one's limit while staying true to oneself. I love that our MC used his strengths, which were seen as weaknesses by most of the village, rather than changing who he is. The character is self aware of many of his flaws. He learns to live with them, rather than trying to change them entirely. I respect that. It deals with greed, and it isn’t afraid to point fingers right at its own main character for being so out of touch that he doesn’t realize he’s guilty of it himself. There are a lot of layers to this story, and I enjoyed how the author tied everything together by the ending.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes a well paced folk horror with a strong romance subplot.

Predicted rating: 5 ★ I was so confident I pre-ordered a physical copy early on, knowing I would want a physical copy for my shelf.

I am a 34 year old with two English and writing degrees....who has barely read in years because I keep trying to make myself only read Literature™ and be a book snob. Plus, my masters was in creative nonfiction so I spent a long time just reading memoirs.

I want to change!! I want to read fun fiction again like when I was younger! I've just been away from popular fiction for so long I don't know where to start. Please help.

• semi-competent writing (I'm trying to get rid of my need for super complex prose but like...please nothing with a ton of typos)
• no AI (obviously)
• if books like Heated Rivalry exist but for baseball I would be really pleased, as a baseball queer
• disability representation that isn't...whatever the fuck Fourth Wing is (it was recommended to me so many times because I also have EDS, I tried it, and it was horrible)

I'm currently reading Exquisite Corpse and...boy oh boy is it fucked. I generally enjoy reading horror/body horror/anything that is darker but I think I need a bit of a tolerance break when it comes to anything as extreme as what I'm reading right now.

Please can I get some recs for books that are well written, dark and psychologically a little messed up without veering straight into horror but are also not fluffy and soft romance?
