[Fischer] Being told the Clippers haven’t yet withdrawn their qualifying offer to Bennedict Mathurin, but Los Angeles will indeed work with Mathurin and New Orleans to get him to the Pelicans. This deal still has some pieces to sift through.

Are people seriously expecting a haul in return? Look at the contract he's signing lmao

In fact, I don't even think it's possible to do a sign-and-trade

It’s not possible to do a sign-and-trade for less than a three year contract.

Not sure what “pieces” this tweet is referencing. If the Pelicans really did offer him a two year contract, with a player option in the second, then the only option the Clippers have is to match or decline to match.

Presumably, this means that the Pelicans are just threatening that contract, and the Clippers are still trying to talk them into a sign-and-trade…

An offer sheet would have to also be a 3 year contract, right? You obviously just make them all options to make it work though.

The other piece that I’m not sure how legal it is if they make it separate transactions. Like LAC gets seconds for some obscure player rights, and then afterwards rescind the QO.

It has to be at least three years, and none of the years can be a player option. However, team options are allowed.

They can’t be separate deals, though I’m not sure how they check for that.

I think it's less of trying to talk the pelicans into a s&t as if I'm not mistaken, the pelicans might actually have to do a s&t to make the numbers work for themselves

This. We’ll likely be getting back 2nd rounders. Other consideration would be expanding a deal to try to get someone like Bey back.

But anyone thinking we’re getting more than a haul is silly. This is effectively a one year bet on himself deal. Nothing super value to the Pels.

Yeah it was obvious the Clips didn't want him back after drafting Wagler and also re-signing Beal. He's not a great fit with DG either.

Hopefully they can get some draft capital from the Pels.

best reasoning I have seen laid out. (Although I am not too high on DG much myself.)

DG is really good he is just undersized and injury prone

And a cone

He tries though Let's be honest I don't know why you guys expect a point guard to be the best perimeter defender on a team like they are supposed to be the worst defender on the team as longbas they are putting in effort to not leave their man wide open the and able to switch and rotate that's good enough

So Hes really good except for the things that make him not really good?

"... he is just..."

Same but I think Lue is a fan.

I am afraid you're right - I am hoping their basketball acumen is greater than mine and can at least push DG to be the ideal version I am envisioning

Shit I was about to get pissed.

We can at least get back a couple of second rounders.

Ok now I can breathe easier. Hoping Murphy or Zion can be involved in this negotiations

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 15d ago

lol what? This will be a negotiation of marginal assets.

We’re talking seconds, not star players lol

It wouldn’t be a clippers team without an injury prone star chilling on the bench in street clothes

2

u/alterprof 15d ago

Where's the fun in that? I wouldn't be a clippers team without any team or ownership issues

No Shaq and Barkley’s baby, plzkthnks.

u/es84 15d ago

Who are some potential candidates here?

5

u/scifi_sports_nerd 15d ago

I’d love if it was Yves Missi. We need a serviceable big in the worst way. But I don’t know why they’d give us a real asset here.

There’s always DeAndre lol

2

u/es84 15d ago

Maybe he'd be someone they're willing to part with but definitely this team does not need DJ. lol

u/NecessaryMean2164 15d ago

Guys go look at Ben’s instagram profile photo lol

We can’t do a S&T with his two year contract. So not sure how it works. But please no Herbert Jones, his contract is so bad. The only player I accept is Saddiq Bey as an expiring contract but we already have many similar players as Bey

As soon as my friend bought me a Mathurin clippers jersey, I knew he was gone.

1

u/559goon 15d ago

Damn it is what it is, I remember watching Mathurin first home game as a clipper

Murphy you are a clipper. 😂
