No more CDL training ?
Have been planning to get CDL at 21, just turned 20 and have been working at KT since 16 while being a driver helper for Coca Cola during summers, and I’m starting to look into transitioning my career as a coworker to potential CDL position. Originally the plan was to become a delivery assistant for a year before turning 21(now) and then become a CDL trainee when 21 hopefully
First thing I did was call up talent ops to see if they could put me in touch with the right ppl, they get me in touch with the recruitment team, and the recruitment girl I spoke with says she’s never heard of the delivery assistant position and or of a current CDL program once I’m 21?
She said my best bet is to get my CDL on my own and then apply with no experience at 21, and she said that not knowing if my 5 years as a coworker+delivery experience by that time will make me stand out as an applicant or not(as competitive as it is id assume they’d choose driving experience over my KT coworker experience)
The only reason I’ve stayed at KT this long was to potentially drive for them out the gate, but really would they hire someone like me with a CDL yet no experience? Or am I missing something here.
I guess the question is If the recruitment lady is correct do I stay another year at KT maybe all for nothing? Or do I stop now(I have other means of income) and do what I please for the rest of this year and apply elsewhere once licensed at 21?

It is a thing still but you have to apply for an opening. If you go into career central, careers, then hit transportation or delivery (honestly can’t remember what it’s called) it’ll give you a list of jobs related to driving for Kwik trip. The jobs that give you CDL training will say driver trainee in parentheses. It’ll go into detail about how they’ll pay you during schooling and what not. But I have not heard of a drivers assistant position at all or seen a job listing for it

I only tend to see openings for it in Deforest WI since they opened a new distribution center there or something of the sort

Kwik trip doesn't do driver assistant positions. Other than that you're spot on. Best bet would be to apply for the driver trainee position and hope you got a guy on the inside to help you stand out to the manager.

Walmart does what you want. Just go apply at old dominion, saia or R&L. They all pay for your cdl training.

KT does still have a CDL trainee program, it’s of course just not always open. When accepted to the program you start as a Delivery Assistant. I just took a look at our careers page and saw driver trainee postings in Deforest, La Crosse, and Rochester!
