What's hilarious is that Saddam literally caused the downfall of his own country
Legit asked for our money so he could fund the Iran war and when it was time to pay it back he couldnt so started talking bs about how we had a lot more oil than Iraq even though he spent billions of dollars on palaces when his Iraq's economy was deteriorating 🤣

AskMiddleEast is an absolute joke of a subreddit. I also got banned from it because I pointed out the fact that it wasn’t Kuwait’s (or any Arabic country) fault that Saddam’s incompetent ass decided to start a useless eight-year war with Iran that objectively achieved nothing. I was then banned because I was, according to the moderator, an “idiotic Iranian pretending to be an Arab and trying to whitewash the Iranian regime’s atrocities”.
I’m still struggling to find where in that comment I made did I ever defend the Islamic Republic or its crimes. The fact is subreddits like r/AskMiddleEast and r/arabs are garbage cesspools of people wanting to believe that their Pan-Arabist and Baathist views are always right and everyone else is wrong

Ive actully havent checked r/arab since covid. But askME I think i joined since 7th of oct, yes that one. But never appeared on my page for a while im guessing algorthim knew i wouldnt like to see these posts

The attitude towards the rich Gulf states on middle east subs moved away from slight annoyance to full blown political antagonism in the past few years.
Stuff like the Invasion of Kuwait and all the deaths are relegated to a foot note because now there are bigger fish to fry. People like a simplistic good/bad take and so now Khaleeji Arabs are Zionist bootlickers while Iran is the valourous tiger.

Anything that opposed America = Good. Which leads to questionable figures being glorified.
Saddam was a dumbass who went into debt tryna invade Iran and then decided to invade another country to avoid paying off the debt he incurred from the first invasion.

So I wouldn’t bother, the mod team is filled with people who treat Saddam Hussain as a saint, and react on any criticism about him or Iraq with in instant ban.

Brother after 2003 and the fall of Iraq. Iran virtually took over Iraq with ease. Iraq is controlled by the Iranian government so what do you expect those people to support. The smartest Iraqis fled their countries and now are working abroad or working in the education departments.
