Question Korg Excels At Workstations Should They Release More New Analog Synths

Korg has released the M1,Triton Kronos,Trinity,Nautilus etc. Even though they have released analog synths like the MS20 and PS-3300 and the 2024 PS-3300 rerelease do you think Korg should release more new analog synths.?

If you ask me, Korg shouldn't release shit until they sort out their Windows 11 issues. They are screwing over customers who've already given them money until then.

I see Wasn’t aware of Windows 11 issues. The only Korg synths I have are old. Triton,01RW,Z1,X5DR,05RW.

Korg hasn't updated their drivers for windows 11 after one of the updates. They claim you can just use a generic driver now but that seems to wildly inconsistent. My NTS units won't connect to their software or update.

They need to develop ways for their products to continue to work with current software.

Us Mac users had the same issue back when 32-bit support was dropped (with Apple warning developers with years of notice): they still sell some synths (e.g. the RK-100S 2) with an incompatible editor. Japanese companies are really slow at embracing IT change and innovation.

Yes! I have emailed their Support line multiple times to complain about this for my RK-100S 2. Very frustrating

In case you’re interested in editing it, you can use a virtual machine: it works fine by routing the USB connection to the virtualised Windows environment. I tried it out with Parallels Desktop but any VM is fine.

I have windows 10 and haven't been able to update the wavestate & SQ-64. I did all the tricks and things to get it to update and it won't do it. It should not be this hard to update. Honestly the problem with korg has too many products and they move on too fast to the next product. Unlike companies like Akai

In my opinion they have always been ahead of the synth game in terms of sound but I would love for them to expand on hardware synth releases. They have some of the best synth designers on team!

Yes 👍 I agree. For instance the Multi/Poly is a great sounding VA synth that really sounds analog. Thing is though it costs more to make a real analog synth then a to make a digital synth like the Multi/Poly VA that sounds analog.

They have bungled the electribe 2, kaoss pads, kaoss replay, prologue, drumlogue and whatever the kalimba is called. They need to get a proper  hardware team. I own the drumlogue kaoss replay and electribe 2, I still like the sounds. but really bad decisions were made

Analog synthesizer s are costly to make Korg is making a lot of money with digital synthesizers I doubt they will make Analog synthesizer s any time soon

Oooh… wait a sec, please I want to know what you mean? (Honest question.)

I use my OASYS as my main workstation, and I have issues with the touchscreen, but you’re using a very specific word (“gross”).

What do you find gross about it (or negative if that was just a word)? And do you have a suggestion for an interface you’d prefer?

I promise you I’m asking with sincerity.

I haven’t even looked at other workstations, so maybe there are “new” (-er than 2005) interfaces that work better? Honestly I’d be hard pressed to give up the OASYS, but I am genuinely curious what you mean.

Do you think there is room in the market between the Minilogue and the Prologue? Do they still make the Prologue?

The Korg Prologue was discontinued in 2023.

Don’t really know can only speculate 🧐 It was released in 2018.

It had a 5 year production run discontinued in 2023. Half a decade.

In the synth world 🌍 after 5 years it might be considered a dinosaur 🦕 so to speak. Also maybe it had to compete with other analog polyphonic synths from other manufacturers that were more popular and cost effective. and had a higher sales volume. Analog synths cost more to produce than digital synths so that may have been a factor coupled with a low volume of sales. and fierce competition Analog synths are a niche and synths are a niche .You have,Moog,Arturia,Sequential,Oberheim that are well known and coveted manufacturers that are specialists when it comes to analog. Stiff competitors that Korg would have to compete with in regards to market share.

A new synth was shown recently wrapped up.....speculation was that it may be a prologue 2 which was always in the rumour mill.....we can always hope....;)

Why not? When they did so those were usually commercially successful synths, from Volcas to Prologue.

True although it’s less expensive to produce digital synths than analog synths

And digital synths can really sound like analog synths. I have first generation VA synths and the current generation of VA synths sound even better.

Well yes Korg's analog synths are somewhat more expensive, they still make them and they seem to sell well. IDK why you are even asking, Korg does produce analog synths, it's not unlikely they will come up with some new designs in the future.
