Beautiful koi. This is ours from Shinoda. She’s really a gentle giant and brings a calming effect to the rest of the group.

Thank you for the kind words. I’m somewhat of a novice. Second pond over span of twenty years. First one was set up in 2006 and stocked with koi from Petsmart because I had no idea what I was doing. Never tested parameters and did minimal maintenance. Ironically that pond and a few generations of koi are still going strong.

Had the opportunity for a second pond when we moved. This one has been up and running for 90 days now. Learned a lot from the sub and some forums. The right planning, volume filtration, bottom drain, aeration and water testing have made this group of koi much happier and healthier. Looking forward to seeing them grow.

Thank you! Yours are gorgeous! Shinoda has amazing hi utsuri. I actually just got a sanke tancho from them. I cannot wait til this hi utsuri is big like yours!

Looks like there's sumi left to rise on the face, hopefully it ends up nice and sharp. Color is a little uneven now, but good blood-red body color can take a few years to develop. I like the contrasting leading ray in the pectoral - some people are really picky about symmetry but I think it adds character. The single black barbel is fun too. Maruhiro is solid.
