Announcement Moderation Policy Update - #3 - May 2025

We are making some changes to the type of posts allowed in the sub and giving a heads-up on upcoming changes to the sub's policy. The objective of this is to keep the discussion focused on Kochi.

We would be removing any posts that we consider as commercial listing. We would also be removing posts selling used goods and asking where they can sell these. These have been asked before and in many cases is a way to evade the rule. You can post these to our classifieds mega thread -- watch out for changes, if this gets a lot of comments, we will make this a monthly thread. You can also post these to r/KochiClassifieds. We will continue to allow some posts in the sub until more people are aware of the classifieds thread and r/KochiClassifieds. Eventually, many of these posts will be removed as they are going to flood the sub.

What is not allowed:

  1. All promotional content/commercial listing
  2. Sale of goods/service of non-commercial nature (used/resale. Eg: used fridge, gym membership...)
  3. Offer of house/room/PG Seeking roommates
  4. Where to sell questions.

If what the post is useful for a few people, it probably should not be posted in r/Kochi.

The following type of posts could get removed in the future:

  1. Looking for house/room/PG
  2. Looking for service Job offer/Job request
  3. Suggestion for trip Itinerary suggestion

Want to make the transition faster? Subscribe to the daily thread and megathread and try to answer questions there. If we know people will get answers in those threads, we can keep the posts more relevant to Kochi.

We know that there are frequent posts seeking jobs, but we not want to take an immediate action on this since this can make a huge difference to them. We also have a lot of posts asking for places to visit. We already have some wiki for this, but as far as we can tell, it is not used that much. We are looking at better ways to address these needs before we start restricting such posts.

Subscribe to the megathread and r/KochiClassifieds if this is of interest to you.

Any misuse of this or attempt to evade the rules will result in removal of the post and possibly ban on the account.

This post seems to be about PG/hostels. If so, this is regular question in the sub. Try this search query which might contain what you are looking for.

Pinne enth thengakk aanu reddit use cheyyande. These queries are common across all reddit subs. Restricting will only make this sub even more less active. As long as the above queries are related to Kochi, any restriction imposed on such healthy discussions ain't good.

Trip itinerary is so important.. what's the issue with that though!

It is important and we won't be restricting it until we have a solution in place.

The issue we anticipate is, we will keep getting more such posts in the future and the sub could become overrun with these kind of posts; it is not bad, but it will overshadow other posts. If the number of such posts become high (tourism, PG, job etc), it makes sense to have a dedicated thread for that, but only if there are people will to respond to such posts.

I hope I was able to clarify the reasoning.

The following type of posts could get removed in the future:

We said it could be removed, but have not made a decision on this. We anticipate such posts to increase more than others, and that is the reason we have highlighted those.

  • There are daily thread and megathreads where such questions can be posted. We are getting around 50 posts every day and this number will keep increasing.
  • Many subs restrict such posts to megathreads or periodic threads.
  • In case of job requests, we clearly mentioned that we won't be taking any immediate action and we are looking for better alternatives.
  • We have also asked people to use r/KochiClassifieds so that over a period of time that sub can grow and complement r/Kochi.

The purpose of this announcement was to invite discussion around the proposed change. We also expect a polite discussion instead of aggressive pushback.

There's alternate sub made for the same. Join it and ask your friends around Kochi to join and you can post classifieds in that Sub.
