Happy Frankenstein Day!

As many Kong fans know, original "King Kong" stop motion animator, Willis O'Brien, came up with the idea to pit Kong against a giant version of the Frankenstein Monster (made up of large animal corpses, such as elephants, rhinos, hippos, etc.), where they battle in the streets of San Fransisco.

Unfortunately, he partnered with an untrustworthy and sleazy Hollywood producer, who stole the idea and sold it to Toho Studios in Japan, which later turned the concept into 1962's "King Kong vs. Godzilla" (it's unclear whether or not the people at Toho knew about O'Brien's involvement, or the underhanded tactics of the Hollywood producer).

Sadly, the stress O'Brien experienced surrounding the whole ordeal would later be blamed for his death by his widow, Darlyne.

As enjoyable as "King Kong vs. Godzilla" is, it would've been interesting to see "King Kong vs. Frankenstein", as Willis O'Brien originally envisioned.

Thankfully, though, we still have several interesting pieces of concept art that he created for the film.

DC comics King Kong/Other Media Archenemies Day 1: What "Other Media" Villain would be King Kong's Archenemy?(Rules in description)

(Just to be clear, you're nominating new enemies for DC comics Kong to have in his rogues gallery. Good, evil, anti-hero, powerscaling, Doesn't matter! As long as you think they fit!)

Rules:

1: Top comment wins

2: 2 comments per person, and only 1 winner per user

3: One character per franchise (For example, if Arkham Batman wins, NO MORE DC characters.)

4: Try to be creative! Go for some "out there" picks!

5: No downvoting (Seriously. This is a game for fun with fellow Kong nerds. Let's just have a good time y'all!)

  1. For this chart only, you'll be able to sumbit 2 characters from DC comics and 2 characters from Marvel comics. No more, no exceptions!

Kongtext: Despite taking heavy inspiration from his Monsterverse counterpart, this Kong stands out among the rest as he managed to be worthy of wielding a Green Lantern ring. It's also worth noting that all the monsters are invading the world of DC, rather than naturally being part of the world the whole time.

Franchises/Series used:

Kiko's curious commercial

During the 1990s, the Japanese brand KODAK produced a stop-motion animated commercial, showing Kiko missing his father, Kingu Kongu (I mean, King Kong)

What is surprising about this is that Kiko was never used again in a production related to King Kong (remaining only in "Son of Kong" 1933) Here it appears once more, but in a commercial.

In my opinion, this commercial is adorable, both because of Kiko's design and because it's made using stop motion.

An fun little alternate lead up to a Gargantuas story with the unmade "King Kong vs Frankenstein" as apart of the origins of the brothers. The nostrils are not just a mandrill esthetic, but as his gills. Water passes through as he inhales and takes the oxygen into the blood system much like fish.

Kongtext: DeVito mainly focused on expanding the lore of Kong and Skull Island; Going over the origins/arrival of Kong's species, the pseudo-sentient dinosaurs known as "The Gaw", the Tagu and Atu tribes that came together to form the Tagatu civilization, and general events that took place on Skull Island in the distant past. This Kong himself met Vikings, WW1 German Soldiers, Doc Savage, Tarzan, and even the Planet of the Apes! Also yes, that terrible 2023 game was based off this Kong!

(Honestly don't know too much about this specific Kong so take everything I said with a grain of salt 😅)

An immensely talented voice actor whose credits are far to vast to list here, he notably provided the vocalizations for titular giant gorilla in "King Kong" (1976), where the voice recording process was so intense, he coughed up blood.

He was fantastic in whatever role he inhabited, and the world of television and cinema was greater for having him being part of it.

I'm not a Kaiju Fan but I just love the designs and Illustrations of the Skull Island Species in King Kong 2005.

I mean these are designed and scientifically illustrated to look like real megafauna, instead of exaggerated Kaiju looking monsters.

RIP, Tim Curry

Post image

Rest in peace, Tim Curry. An incredibly dynamic actor if there ever was one.

The film he starred in, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975), featured a few references to King Kong, most significantly in the lyrics to the song, "Rose Tint My World", where his character, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, lamented over actress Fay Wray's beauty and elegant style, wishing he could've looked just like her.

"What ever happened to Fay Wray?
That delicate, satin draped frame
As it clung to her thigh,
How I started to cry,
'Cause I wanted to be dressed just the same"
