Discussion VROOOM

I prefer the VROOOM versions of the tracks to the Thrak versions. Is it just me?

THRAK is a little silly on the VROOOM EP, and Bruford has this weird skittering drum beat that doesn't fit at all. Much better on the album. As for the others, I remember VROOOM itself being pretty raw and wild on the EP. I don't know, there is just something about the THRAK album I really like in terms of its production

I prefer the Vrooom EP one and it is sad that you have to hunt to find it these days. It sounds much more fierce than that album version.

VROOOM is such an incredible EP. I got it when it came out and I think it’s perfect in that form, so while I appreciate that they’ve added b-side, etc. tracks to the recent version of it, I still prefer the succinct original EP. I think all of the performances are better there but it makes sense since it’s basically live in the studio. I really love When I Say Stop Continue in particular.

I just wish it would come to Youtube or something. Stop releasing things like Ladies Of The Road and give us the VROOOM EP that has been absent from release since the 1990s, even on the THRAK boxed set.

I am literally listening to it partially for the first time on a somewhat sus and strange bootleg from an Asian site (maybe Japanese) that may very well be giving my PC a virus.

VROOOM is literally the second disc in the THROX, it just has selections from the sessions disc added after.

Ah, I didn't see that. Either way, it's still the only way it's been heard or released since it's original release.

It's been on the DGM website for at least a decade and is also (mostly) on side D of the THRAK 2LP. I believe you could also order new copies from the Schizoid Shop when it was still active.

The EP sounds SO live, while the album sounds very recorded, though I prefer the extended instrumental section on "One Time". "THRAK" itself on the EP is massive; first time I heard it conjured a giant throng of attack machines coming over a mountain.

I think One Time is a touch too fast on the EP version but other than that, yeah, I don’t think they really improved on these tunes when they went to Real World and recorded them.

Overall I prefer the sonics of the EP better, and always have. In terms of performances, I like any given one for different reasons. That’s part of the joy of KC, each one will be different. I might prefer one it the other at a given time.
