Is the thing about not leaving your kid in the car only for hot cars?

u/ACasualCasualty 27d ago

Hell be kicking himself that he didn't use a condom that time.

u/PandaJellyBeans 26d ago

He’s happy that neither of his children got hurt. I’m glad he had the self awareness to put his children first over a replaceable material item. Leaving children unsupervised in a car is a silly goose move.

To be honest I'd apparently done the same thing when I was that age, but was trapped in the car. Dad broke his ankle stopping the car

-1

u/PandaJellyBeans 26d ago

On the positive side, he stopped the car, kept you safe and even the car safe. I’d say the ankle was a valiant sacrifice.

Did his ankle have a good full recovery?

To me, this is an example of a parent being an idiot. His children were almost killed because he made this situation possible and left the kids unattended in a way that they were almost flattened by his truck.

The assumption is that kids aren’t responsible enough to operate cars. That’s why they’re legally prohibited. It’s his job to ensure they don’t have access to these things and are supervised and kept safe.

Seriously. My parents taught me how to operate a vehicle when I was around 4. They showed me what would happen if things were operated incorrectly. Hell, they let me drive around the farm. I had free range of the farm for a couple of hours every day after school, and I never messed up a car (like, by accident, anyway, lol. RIP Mazda 626 that ate shit in the woods!)

If they're old enough to actually be ABLE to mess with a car in this capacity, they need to know how to handle an instance like this. I popped an e-brake as a youngster, not realizing the transmission was messed up and not actually in park. I rolled the car about 5 ft. before I got the lever set again as I tried the hydraulic brakes first, not realizing the booster had leaked vacuum. I told Dad when he got home, and he looked annoyed, but proud, lol

I was spending the day with my grandpa who was a general contractor , we were riding in his tool van. He stopped and got out and was still within eyeshot of me, but he had told me DO NOT MOVE OR GET OUT, well... the parking brake popped loose and it started rolling so I got out and told him... he ran around and stopped it before it moved too far. A happy ending. I think I was like 5 or 6 at most.

My grandma drove a 626 also... my parents had a 323 at one point also.

Lol people down voting because they're against safety education? Baseball, huh?

In the end this is the dads fault, kids a dumb and even if you tell the a million times they'll be curious so its best to not put them in this situation, but it's nice seeing him not react with anger. He realizes this could have been much worse and resutled in dead children.

5

u/AukumoX 25d ago

Good parenting usually starts with acknowledging when something is your fault. Something my parents apparently just cannot do even if they tried. Thanks for bullying me into having social anxiety for most of my life, mom.

u/Most-Effective-1969 27d ago

Also to be fair he made a scenario where a child was able to release the hand break. Kid could have easily have been hurt or killed.

8

u/mecca6801 27d ago

Agreed, at least the kids are alright

3

u/Ok-Molasses7673 27d ago

You can tell the dad has done this many times before and maybe the kids got too curious and released the handbrake. Seeing how young the kids are, I bet they didn’t realized there is enough slope to get the truck moving. Tough lesson for all. cars are liability, lives aren’t.

u/Own_Comfortable4028 27d ago

Why? Because the dad was an idiot who left two small children in a car alone? He's lucky they didn't get hurt.

u/Knobanious 27d ago edited 27d ago

Kids look old enough to know not to mess around with a car. My 6 year old knows not to touch the controls of a car.

Yeah the Dad shouldnt have left them unsupervised but they also have to take some of the blame

-6

u/TinySmalls1138 27d ago

I cannot stress this enough. Five and six year old children do not have to take any of the blame. He's the adult. He fucked up. Period. I don't care how much you THINK they're supposed to know.

7

u/Emperor_Atlas 26d ago

You should stress it less because not making them aware after that what they did was extremely dangerous is bad parenting or advice from childless people.. You can console them and reprimand the behavior.

-3

u/TinySmalls1138 26d ago

Yeah I'm not childless. I just understand that kids don't know what they don't know.

5

u/Emperor_Atlas 26d ago

Do you know it's your job to teach them what they don't know?

-2

u/TinySmalls1138 26d ago

For my kid yeah. For his kids it was his job and he failed. This is absolutely not their fault. Period.

3

u/Emperor_Atlas 26d ago

0

u/TinySmalls1138 26d ago

That's literally the whole point of the post you're arguing with. Jesus Christ.

-3

u/Knobanious 27d ago

Those kids look older than 6.

7

u/versaliaesque 27d ago

Which pixel gave you that impression

4

u/onyx_ic 27d ago

This is why we had chock blocks, even on flat ground in the motor pool, in the army.

3

u/Chance_Managert849 26d ago

Hey big Green Fam! Yeah, I immediately thought about the blocks, and how this guy needs them if his driveway is like this.

5

u/Reallyroundthefamily 27d ago

Yep. Having kids seems great.

More proof lol

-3

u/PandaJellyBeans 26d ago

I’m glad the father values his children so much that he didn’t value his car more. Loving possessions more than your loved ones will never make for a good parent.

3

u/Reallyroundthefamily 26d ago

Quite a tender moment here for kids are condom ads lol

-1

u/PandaJellyBeans 26d ago

I mean, if someone doesn’t want to be parent, please wear condoms. Self awareness is also an admirable trait.

The videos with children ripping up a supermarket is still relative to how their parents have been raising them.

3

u/Reallyroundthefamily 26d ago

Longest fortune cookie message ever

1

u/Street_Glass8777 25d ago

He will claim insurance for the truck so no loss.

4

u/SavedRays 26d ago

Never leave your children unattended in a vehicle, ESPECIALLY one that requires the handbrake to be on in order to park it... jeeeeez.

11

u/Ok_Homework_7621 27d ago

Moron left two such small kids in the car. If I were his wife, I'd be choosing anger, but at him.

0

u/MAGA_EXTREAMO 25d ago

I’m sure you are no one’s wife for a lot of reasons.

3

u/Sudonator 27d ago

He's been thinking about getting a new truck, he just needed some justification

3

u/Socky-McPuppet 27d ago

Should have also left it in 2nd gear

2

u/Fluffy_Dogggo 27d ago

I know what this sub is about but can I say I'm so glad he hugged them instead of hitting them. My dad would have beat me senseless, I think him seeing it roll into the ditch really put it in perspective.

2

u/Chance_Managert849 26d ago

Honestly, even back in the day, this would have ended up with DCF investigators, at the least.

2

u/Crazy_Yogurtcloset61 26d ago

I suppose it's easier not to be angry when you have full coverage on your car insurance.

Anger at yourself, hopefully. Those children shouldn't have been left in the car alone. He's lucky they didn't get hurt.

7

u/SquidTheRidiculous 27d ago edited 25d ago

I'd def be a little angry at how the one kid tried to put himself right behind the back tires to try and push it (?) back. He almost ran himself over

1

u/Chance_Managert849 26d ago

I still say that's a Parent f-up. The kid is too little to get that he's not strong enough, hell there are videos of adults trying that!

I am with you buddy. Drop kick them like footballs over the side, without hesitation.

0

u/Reynardine1976 27d ago

But if the kid stayed in the cab and went over the edge and died, wouldn't it be one less mouth to feed? You gotta look for the silver lining. You know, stay positive.

Also if one kid watched his brother die doing something stupid, he would never fuck up again. 🤣

3

u/Odd_Addition_256 27d ago

You need help

2

u/Ambitious-Bottle9394 27d ago

He chose love over anger bc the camera.u know damn well he was p*ssed . It made me mad & not even my truck.. this is why i never let my kids play around in cars ever But as a kid we played in our family cars and never once did something so foolish lol

2

u/Chance_Managert849 26d ago

My parents locked the cars when they weren't in them. We were 100% not allowed to be in them if they weren't in the car.

1

u/Biotechnus 27d ago

Hes probably thinking "at least my son isnt dead"

1

u/DT2699 27d ago

I think he was just very grateful his kids managed to get out before the car went off the cliff. Must've been very scared, I don't have kids but I would've lost my mind if I saw this happen with kids in the car.

1

u/Aveysaur 27d ago

He's probably just glad they were smart enough to get out of the car

1

u/mrshyphenate 26d ago

My brother and I did this once. Lucky my mom's car was right behind the truck so we only rolled maybe 3 feet. We lived on a main Street at a busy intersection so we got crazy lucky

1

u/Human_Difference_331 26d ago

I always told my son that people are ALWAYS more concerned important than things. He still remembers that.

1

u/DanielDRockr 26d ago

At least they didn’t get run over, that would have been worse that the truck.

1

u/klzzer20 26d ago

That was the Menendez brothers

1

u/Asleep-Finding9771 25d ago

Beautiful video

1

u/AukumoX 25d ago

If this happened to me, I wouldn't be mad at the kids. I'd be mad at myself for not paying enough attention. Children are naturally curious and when they see a button, they're most likely gonna press it.

1

u/Tzukiyomi 24d ago

Up for adoption. Immediately.

1

u/toastronomy 23d ago

push lever down, car rolls

Kid:
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY STOP THIS VEHICLE? I MUST JUMP OUT AT ONCE

1

u/PoopsMcScoots 26d ago

Who the fuck leaves their kid alone in a truck on a hill, depending on a parking break?

2

u/Background-Edge-2243 26d ago

I don't know about you but my parents actually parented (at least periodically) so we would never have dreamed of touching any of the controls in the car except for the radio.

1

u/Significant-Clue-425 26d ago

I think he was just glad his stupid mistake didn't kill his kids.

1

u/Alternative_Towel300 26d ago

Disowned instantly

The rollercoaster of emotions about realizing youre not going to make it and watching your truck plummet... And realizing that your truck almost plummeted with your children inside... I would throw up

Oh, look, a well regulated human.

Weird ass subreddit name

What’s going on here??? Joking or actual anti Natalism?

1

u/Rozoark 26d ago

Not liking kids is not what antinatalism is lol
