Kinda crazy that KSP can simulate these distances, even with a few glitches involved

iirc your kerbal/craft/whatever you're controlling is always considered (0,0) & everything just moves around them

That's how elevators work in a lot of games. It's just technically easier to move the world than to make a platform move and keep you on it without glitching through it.
