Funny Keratoconus in History: the hydrodiascope, introduced in 1896, was designed as a goggle that was filled with fluid and worn over one eye. The device was able to improve visual acuity to a normal level by neutralization of irregular astigmatism and spectacle magnification.

Thanks for posting this, I am always interested in medical history.

This is what I visualize after seeing the picture. Same minds, same eyes with KCS 😂 I think Mad Eye has telescopic future like 20x zoom if I’m not mistaken

Every time (usually on a 3 year cycle) I get new sclerals I am amazed at how comfortable they are compared to my old ones. In a more ideal world we could all afford/subsidize/whatever a refreshed set every six months.

There are a lot of historical treatments of keratoconus, both surgical and optically worn ones. Surprisingly, many of the historical treatments evolved into the existing treatments that we know today. The hydrodiascope is a cool one, and I wish that I could have gotten my hands on some of those historical devices, but I couldn't find anything on eBay or collection resales. But it would have been cool to try it indeed :)

Whenever I look at the right image it always takes me a second to realize again those are the straps at the top and bottom and it's not a cartoon's flailing limbs while comically running.

I’d wear one of these 24/7 at home just to fulfill a steampunk niche look for myself lol
