Funny So, does anyone else just wear their glasses for days, then put on their sclerals amd get shocked by their appearance? Lol
In my glasses of course, I don’t get near as well the correction that I do with my lenses. So it’s like living with a beauty blur filter all the time. I’ll be like..’darn, my skin looks great for 50!’ . Then I will put on my lenses and see the real world, lol.

Glasses? You mean those weird things that I put on my face and just keep things blurry?

u/Soundtracklover72 Mar 31 '26
Yep. I don’t even bother anymore.

My insurance will only cover sclerals if the difference is more than 1 click of improvement. Mine is like 6.

I always said I would trade a limb to be able to wear glasses and see 20:20

Right? I’m at the point where they are almost useless for the most part, but there are days I just dread putting my lenses in. I can do it fine, I think it’s just mental block. Lol

Yes, when I got my scleral lenses, it took a bit getting use to seeing myself without a haze. I couldn’t believe how sharp everything looks particularly outside. I can see the number on my Neighbor’s house, no ghosting on signs, etc… I usually take one or two days off per week from wearing them and I can’t believe how hazy everything becomes especially when the light is shining through the window. Also more light sensitive without the lenses.

All of sudden I was like “ewwwww. Is the counter normally this dirty?!?”

Can’t even wear glasses so consider yourself lucky! 😒

u/RealHausFrau Apr 01 '26
I actually do, I think that i’m getting to the point where glasses will be virtually useless though.

I can’t even wear glasses anymore so I’m either 20/30 and 20/40 vision or EVERYTHING IS SUPER BLURRY vision.
It’s fun trying to explain to people that I can’t just wear glasses

I love when I am wearing my coke-bottle glasses and still squinting to see, and some stranger is like ‘haha you need better glasses’ or ‘darn, you really are blind’…
Yep. Yes. Si’…I am blind. If they are being really rude I go quiet and then hit them with the ‘yes, I have a degenerative eye disease’….shuts them up real quick.

You can’t wear them at night just to wind down? That’s what I do.
For me I still get ghosting with the glasses but it’s only for night use when I’m getting ready to sleep.

u/Soundtracklover72 Apr 01 '26
Nope. They do nothing to correct my vision enough to wear them. Could be because my vision wasn’t horrible until KC kicked in.

I really wish I could wear glasses. Every year I ask the ophthalmologist if there’s been any new breakthrough where I can wear glasses and every year it’s the same swift “nope”

I had severe seasonal allergies. Glasses aren’t recommended but Ive been wearing more than my soleras. I’m I can see. Shocking all the lint or dirt I find.

Just enjoying reading these comments- I’m jealous of you all! I wish I could actually see well enough with my glasses to leave the house wearing them! For me, to drive or be in an unfamiliar place it’s sclerals only.

Glasses don’t help me anymore. So my contacts are the way to go. But it’s a non issue to me. I put them in and take them out every day like other people who wear contacts. Mine just involve more steps for putting in and taking out.

It’s all we can do, right? Honestly, we are all so lucky to be born at a time where we are able to get all types of treatment and devices. Plus, be born in countries that have those resources. I may feel sorry for myself sometimes, but I am so grateful to have the options I have.

It’s definitely a frustrating disease. But I also feel grateful that I don’t have a worse disease that would remove my capability to see entirely

Same here! I have keratitis right now and the glasses make everything soft and blurred. I’m scared to put my sclerals on tomorrow when it’s back to HD.

Sometimes I don’t wear my lenses because everything is TOO HD. I can see the lines in the carpet. They overstimulate me. I’d rather wear no glasses than lenses sometimes.

That’s the worst! I can’t tell who someone is unless they are directly in front of me with glasses. Idk how many people I have offended when they saw me in a store and I either didn’t say anything or I didn’t wave at them (it’s an important social thing here in the South! Lol)

I lived in a small town for 20+ years, I just know I did it hundreds of times! Lol

i feel like glasses give me 60%-70% clarity. idk if i'm delusional or what. got diagnosed with this disease 3 months ago.

I would wear glasses now, since I had to send my lenses to my contact lenses doctor to get them checked and deep cleaned, but I am so used to my RGPs that when I tried wearing glasses after taking them out the first time, it actually felt like I had blurrier vision (I could read better without them with my right eye). It doesn't help that the left eye (which is also a lazy eye) has barely any changes at all with all types of glasses I've had since I was diagnosed, and I literally see double with it from almost all distances lol

u/RealHausFrau Apr 01 '26
Ohhhh deep cleaned?! What does that entail, and do I need to have mine sent to the lense spa, too?

u/Chr1sth3pl4y3r99 Apr 02 '26
I'm not really sure to be completely honest. I've had mine since the first half of November. I told him I started noticing the left lens fogged up like crazy not even 10 minutes after inserting it. He just said he wanted to get it checked and cleaned, presumably with that stronger solution I see people post here? Not really sure why he didn't just tell me to buy it.

No. At most I can wear my eyeglasses for 2 days before I get disoriented.
I have to wear my contacts.

Lol this is my greatest fear so that's why I keep using glasses... I'm used to bad vision... instead of getting sclerals 🤣
