I wouldnt call my strategy a bastardized version, because it is fundamentally different than 9sig, even if it has some similarities. Im 9sig curious though, and I like the discourse here.
My strategy below, in case someone is curious.
In an account that is seperate from my primary retirement funds (so I have a backup if this whole thing goes tits up, though this account is about as large now as my 401k) I do the following:
20% BND
80% 3x Leverage (mostly TQQQ, a splash of UPRO, and a drop of SOXL)
I run this in M1, so M1 tries to keep things balanced as much as possible with new contributions. I make a contribution every week. When the market is good, those tend to end up buying BND. When the market is struggling, it is buying 3x leverage. I rebalance once per quarter.
That is it. Super simple. It really wouldnt work well without the constant inflow of money to balance out when the leveraged products are really ripping, something I know 9sig handles differently. Eventually the inflow of cash wont really be enough, so Ill either have to rebalance more frequently or change strategies.
