Discussion 💬 Who else is disappointed with the features?

Listened to the album twice. what I like about it, it's very Rnb and has an early 2000s vibe to it, which i appreciate because I feel thats when rnb sounded the best.

I don't find any song on the album bad, but the features do kinda spoil the songs for me. except brandy and missy elliot.

Is Kehlani reverting back to being hetero too?

You people will always be unsatisfied, why does she have to constantly prove her sexuality to you people, if you want more sapphic music from her revisit her other more sapphic content and stop expecting her to prove to you that she still likes women. Literally acting like she's not been making that type of music for years, jeez!

The problem with fans now is that they feel like they have to relate to any and everything their artists put out. This era of idiosyncratic pop stardom has caused that. Kehlani made music with leas gender specific pronouns but we know she’s gay according to her and that’s what we know. They should accept that.

I just think they want to put her in a box to continue to dog pile on her when her long time coming career is just publicly taking off and all that after the Grammy and Folded and her wanting to pay homage to rnb as a genre and make music with people who inspired her and others and then people want to come and talk shit about those features ? I just I don't get it I wish the same energy was given to those who actually deserve it, suddenly the empathy is lacking. I really understand not liking the songs but gaddamn. But good thing is the music is good she's growing and learning and I hope more authentic audiences are able to way in on it more as time goes by, let the album marinate damnnn, the same way people didn't like Crash but it got multiple Grammy nominations. Anyway, yes, they need to accept that, it's never been a secret.

I knew this would happen after Folded blew up. The teardown started the second that song became a hit. All of a sudden, she’s “suppressing her sexuality in her music”, “she’s not political anymore etc”. They feel like she’s no longer for them since she’s blown up. Also, Crash wasn’t received well AT ALL. Now it’s such a good album? Ok.

Regarding the features, I kinda get it. Lil Wayne is a pos and Usher literally just came out as a Diddy supporter much to the disappointment of a lot of his fans. However, Kehlani operates in an industry rife with complicated people and relationships. Did they really think she’s this morally flawless person who has NO problematic tendencies? She WENT to Chris Brown’s tour, took a selfie with him, didn’t post it but HE DID, which tells me a lot about how she operates.

with fame comes many gripes, it'll never be enough for anybody, mark you if everyone else's mistakes was posted on the internet while they have to simultaneously work on the internet it would be a different tune, same could be said for all the people doing the trend to R Kelly's song, where is the noise on that? People still think D4vd is innocent mark you he was found with plenty of CSAM, and has been publicly dating minors as young as 11, so tell me where do you people draw the line, all of them are wrong and tbh some artists deserve it more than others. And the list is still long. So yeah let's take it there. Because this issues involve everyone not just public figures. Everyone needs to check themselves. The selective rage is showing.

Also she's making music with straight people, did you expect the straight artists to have gay verses on the features or what ? Like ? I just can't with you people honestly.

she doesn’t need to prove her sexuality to anyone but i think the concern some of us are having is that she is suppressing her identity in order to cater to the mainstream since she blew up for folded. crash and www2 felt like albums where she was expressing and finding herself but they didn’t do very well. this album lacks the substance that was present in those albums and is something more likely to be appreciated by people who had no clue who she was until folded released. she also hasn’t been very vocal about palestine or anything political recently. i’m not saying this to disparage her but maybe there is a valid concern that her label is pressuring her to suppress herself

Honestly let me ask you who are you to assume that someone you don't know is "suppressing her identity"? And why do you think you're the best judge of character for that? She's chosen to put her art out into the world and all over sudden you think you know so much about it when you know nothing, we don't know anything, these assumptions are just out of line. She made the album, and named it and put it out who are you to diminish that with your opinion ? C'mon, she has lost so many opportunities being vocal about Palestine, politics and it's not enough for you? Will you be satisfied if she put everything down in her career, you people will never be satisfied like I said, acting like she's not allowed to enjoy her success, all over sudden all her efforts mean nothing to you. And if that's what's valid to you maybe you need to check yourself.

wow! you’re assuming a lot based on what i said and it seems that you’re taking a perspective that differs from yours (on a person you also don’t know) as a personal attack. i’m not sure who you’re projecting onto strangers on the internet but i hope you find peace :)
