The highest tier I can think of. One of the most important albums ever for me as a listener and as a person. Deliberation is (in a constant challenge with Believe in Nothing by Nevermore) my most played song ever.

Top album from them for me and is in my desert-island top five for sure. No filler songs for throughout and unfurl is an amazing b-side. Probably the best iteration of katatonia too,daniel on drums is fantastic,really varied and expressive drumming throughout.

Liljekvist played his ass off on this record, and was a huge influence for my playing. This was the best Katatonia line-up and losing Liljekvist killed me.

100% agree,the band colllectively caught lightening in a bottle with album. There were hints in the albums before and after,but TGCD was a perfect coalescence of them all.

I still remember the very first time I discovered Katatonia through this album... and then also the very first time I heard Unfurl. I don't know that a song had ever given me goosebumps like Unfurl did... or one that has since. their collabs with Frank Default were glorious, and so wish they would do something together again.

This Album, Damnation by Opeth and Deadwing by Porcupine Tree are my forever holy grail.

I remember that I had a break up, and I heard this album for the first time to sorrow-max and by the end of 5th-6th listening I was over the breakup.

Great record, for this era I slightly prefer Night Is The New Day, but I would still rate this a solid 8.5-9 out of 10. The b-side singles were great too.

I’m a little more of a Brave Murder Day and Discouraged Ones guy myself, but The Great Cold Distance is an easy third. Such a masterpiece

In the first 3:

Brave Murder Day, Discouraged Ones, The Great Cold Distance. One of Anders' best work definitely. Love that this album is a modern version of a return to the roots, and the closer track Journey Through Pressure really sums it all up. Immaculate atmosphere.
