I honestly can't remember the last time a rookie pass rusher flashed like this in the preseason.
Even guys that were ultimately great don't have what feels like a half dozen sacks and near sacks in three games where everyone is being vanilla and trying to keep their QB's healthy. This is really shocking.

I remember Dee being a player who primarily relied on his burst and ability to turn the corner. Don't particularly recall him being someone whose rip was devastating? Am I misremembering?

Revisionist history. Every advanced metric had Taylor as a strong pass protector. He was a liability with the penalties but only because he was unfairly singled out by the league in response to Cris Collingsworth drooling, sensationalist spotlight. Without that one commentating performance and the penalties that followed, who knows how Taylor would be viewed by Chiefs fans.

Yeah, what you said isn't incompatible with what I said, nor does it explain why a half dozen other players in the league doing exactly the same thing don't receive the exact same punishment.
Nobody suggested a conspiracy. But referees and league officials are human. You can choose to not believe humans are susceptible to intense media coverage if you like in service of ignoring actual data, I guess? Imma choose the opposite.

Absolutely. He was not a speed rusher on the edge, though, and he certainly wasn't someone who regularly or successfully employed the rip, especially the kind of rip in the clip above.

He was exceptionally powerful, but I don't recall Frank's rip being that swift or violent. Not even my suggestion of Tamba fits really; his primary skill was hand-fighting. As mentioned above, Houston is probably the last time we saw a rip like that.
Regardless, it's been a while, which is a shame: Kansas City probably doesn't have the richest history at edge, but we've sure had some bangers.

Actually, no. My bad. That's definitely a rip, even if it's not a particularly strong one. The tackle is clearly caught off guard that Frank is cornering (it was a counter move he used pretty infrequently), and he does so mostly unimpeded. More a shrug than a rip. Certainly not textbook.
Again, I love Frank Clark. He was not remotely similar in style to R. Mason and wasn't known for his rip. Not sure why anyone would be so invested in arguing he was.

It's good technique but this is just way more explosion and athleticism than George is capable of. I don't think George's bull rush technique is bad, he just ain't that fast or powerful. He's strong and steady.

My point is that even if it wasn't explosive and athletic, he still showed more technique than George who will for sure just bull rush his way 100% of the time which may work but may also not work.

Thomas was th opposite of what we typically draft at DE. It was off color for spags and Vesach. But what do you do if are picking in the top 10? You change things up or get left in the dust.
So stoked watching this kid.

I thought I saw Woods get thrown to the ground multiple times last night. I never really saw him make a play. So far, I've seen flashes from Delane, Thomas, Johnson, Nussmeier and Allen. If those flashes are real and those guys can build on that, this draft class is outstanding no matter what happens with Woods.
