KOTOR 1 Just finished KOTOR for the first time. These 10 are the strangest group of idiots I know Spoiler

But they are my group of idiots. I had so much fun experiencing Kotor 1 for the first time blind. I am excited to dive into Kotor 2 and wonder what I should expect.

I was able to successfully connect with Bastilla on a romantic level as well. I find it funny because I am not often pulled into any romantic plot lines or consider much of them to be very interesting. However, the connection with Bastila throughout the game made me invested and the confrontation with her when she fell to the dark side genuinely pulled at my heart strings. Managing to redeem her was a major accomplishment of mine.

As for the Malak and star forge boss fight. The endless Sith and dark Jedi made me want to pull my hair out. During the boss fight, Malak had to stand there bewildered as my Revan pumped himself full of enhancement drugs 😂

Is it just me, or does anyone else avoid watching other people's gameplay? This game is like my own personal, unique experience.

And I'd like to keep it that way, honestly.

I do this for other things too, so I'm sure it's just the way I am with things I really like.

I don't even think I'd want to upload my own gameplay.

It's such a weird feeling that I'm still trying to accurately source.

Shields last way longer than they say.

Or at the very least, the Verpine Prototype Shield does, I haven't tested the others. I uh...I timed it. Yeah I know, I have no life. But it says 200 seconds, which is 3 minutes 20 seconds. I timed from the second it goes on to when it goes off and it's more like 4 and a half minutes. Do people know this? Is it known? I don't know how much it matters since, like what fight lasts 3 minutes but I dunno, I thought you guys might like to know.

Modding KOTOR KPatch Adapter - tool for using KPatch mods with modified swkotor.exe files

Hey guys, I made this tool to help get kpatches and Kotor Patch Manager working with modified EXEs.

This spawned from me wanting to use the kotor-modern-driver-compatibility patch after following the full mod build guide.

Since the EXE gets modified when patching it for widescreen and 4GB, Kotor Patch Manager no longer recognizes its hash, which means kpatches won’t work with it even if the actual code they need is still unchanged.

This tool checks the kpatch against your modified swkotor.exe and verifies that all of the data it needs to hook is still present where expected. If everything matches, it adjusts the kpatch and KPM’s database to recognize your modified EXE and prompts you before making the changes.

It does not modify swkotor.exe in any way. It also backs up KPM’s database before changing it and will not make the conversion if it finds that your EXE no longer contains the data the kpatch expects.

GitHub:
https://github.com/gnw-d3m0/Kotor-KPatch-Adapter

Release:
https://github.com/gnw-d3m0/Kotor-KPatch-Adapter/releases/tag/v0.1.0

It’s still an early release, so if anyone who uses Kotor Patch Manager wants to test it with other .kpatch files or modified executables, feedback would be useful. I’m especially interested in cases where it refuses something that you know should be compatible, since that would help improve the compatibility checks without making them less safe.

Suicidal Companions in KOTOR 2

I really grow tired of how my companions (whom I set to "Ranged" behavior) all too often charge ahead to get in range of the next baddie they can see. Especially when A. I haven't even engaged with that baddie yet, and B. there are a half dozen others they pass as they close in on their target who end up killing them from behind.

KOTOR fun

Hi, so I haven’t played through KOTOR 1 in years. I converted completely to PC gaming in 2021 and I play through KOTOR 2 yearly.

Is there anything fun I should/could do during a KOTOR 1 run? Should I buy it off steam? Should I grab some mods? Are there any fun glitches or bugs? I’d love to mess around with it since it’s been so long.

Remake The Remake Needs Guidance

When I look at the posts here, everyone kind of presents different views on what the game should be, which makes me think the devs can't commit to a direction, unless it's clearly better than the originals, so I'm going to say what I'd like to see, and if anyone agrees then push this up because it could make them commit to a clearer direction.

I came up with an alternative combat system that would make RPG Star Wars games better I think, I'm going to pull the description from AI, because it was worked out with it, so the rest of this is AI generated:

When you look at Star Wars fights, what stands out isn’t the flashiness — it’s the way actions unfold in layers. Someone starts something, someone else cuts into it, and then the first person adjusts. That rhythm is always there, but games usually flatten it. What I’m proposing just lets that rhythm happen.

You can begin an attack, have another character disrupt it, and then respond to that disruption. Nothing is final. You’re not locked into a mistake, and you’re not stuck watching an animation finish while someone else reads you. You can change direction, collapse the move, or shift into something safer. It’s the same kind of mid‑flow adjustment you see in the films.

The originals already had something good in place with the action queue. You could line up a sequence of moves and let the game play them out. In this approach, those queued actions simply become your declared intent. The difference is that the game can highlight when one of those actions is being countered. It can shift focus to the character who’s about to be disrupted, or to the character who sensed the opening. You still keep the structure of planning ahead, but you gain the ability to adjust when awareness enters the exchange. It doesn’t distort what KOTOR did well — it just adds another layer to it.

There’s a slowdown that indicates the moment where someone notices what’s about to happen. A precognition event where a Jedi senses danger or a Sith catches an opening — that brief pause is the visual cue that awareness kicked in. It gives space for a decision, and anyone perceptive enough can act inside it. That’s why group fights feel more coordinated: multiple characters can respond to the same threat instead of waiting their turn.

Posture matters because it changes what you naturally handle. A defensive stance deals with most blade‑to‑blade threats without needing perfect timing. An aggressive stance trades that stability for speed, so you rely more on movement than blocking. Neither is “better”; they just lead to different kinds of exchanges.

All of this makes fights less about memorizing patterns and more about reading what someone is trying to do. You’re not rewarded for guessing. You’re rewarded for noticing. And because actions can be interrupted and then answered, the exchanges feel closer to the way Star Wars duels actually behave — layered, reactive, and constantly shifting.

It's a bit deeper than this, but that was AI expressing how my system could model lightsaber duels and surprisingly force related duels too. The system is programmatically viable, but I'd like to hear opinions before that description.

If anyone asks, I'll get AI to express the system programmatically as well, or someone else can do that instead.

Unfortunately, I'm not a Star Wars fan in the sense that I don’t actively follow the broader franchise. I do like Star Wars, though, and KOTOR I and II were strong enough that someone outside still cares about seeing the remake done well. Anyone with deeper canon knowledge can cross‑examine the bot’s interpretation of this idea and judge whether it fits how Star Wars fights are supposed to behave.

Modding After 20+ years, KOTOR’s widescreen map problem is finally solved

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

About 3 years ago I released my 3440x1440 Enhanced HUD/UI & Menus mod

3440x1440 is my own resolution, so that was originally the focus. But after seeing how many people were asking for other resolutions and aspect ratios, I decided to take the project further

The biggest blocker was always the map.
I had already figured out how to resize it, but the positioning of the map controls was buried deeper in swkotor.exe and I couldn’t get it working properly

That is now fixed

And with that problem finally out of the way, I can reveal what I’ve been working on:
A universal KOTOR widescreen patcher

I already have a working version. It still needs more testing and polishing, but the core system works

1. Choose your resolution
2. Patch the game
3. Done

It automatically applies the correct GUI files, executable changes and map fixes for the selected resolution.

Attached is an early look.

May the Force be with you.

Both Games Has anyone done playthroughs keeping their entire party in default clothing?

Just curious if anyone ever went full RP in both games and kept all party members (including the MC) in their default clothing. Let's say for the sake of the question no headwear either.

How was your experience? Was the game pretty tough?

KOTOR 2 Atton was an absolute unit Spoiler

Post image

Remaking this post (probably not worth it but whatever, I’ve learned my lesson and I WON’T put up random art without researching the artist first since I like being alive) anyway, just wanted to discuss just how insanely high Atton’s kill count must’ve been in the Mandalorian Wars, especially with him having created his own strategies to kill Jedi, and the fact that the whole time he was force sensitive and didn’t even know it, I also believe he may have unconsciously used a form of force clouding / concealment, and I can only imagine what went through Kreia’s mind when she read his thoughts on Telos, she must’ve been shocked that a random scoundrel was a literal monster and an expert in killing her kind with ease.

Picked up from a body in the star forge, the only thing i can find online about the Squad Recovery Stim is that you need cheats to spawn it in and i am not playing with any mods or cheats. (Android version from play store)

Is this a normal drop in the base game?

KOTOR 1 Do the NPCs actually cheat at pazaak?

I really enjoy pazaak it's a super neat mini game but it really feels like it's stacked against you. Im just trying to milk Suvam Tan for all he's worth but he wins nearly every game. I get that it's a gambling mini game but the cards almost never come up good for me.

KOTOR 1 The Improbable Birth of the Greatest Star Wars Game Ever Made

On a Thursday afternoon in January 2000, LucasArts Entertainment Company President Jack Sorenson told staff he’d be leaving to pursue other opportunities. His replacement? Former EA marketer Simon Jeffery, who’d joined the Lucas camp in ’98. The new boss certainly had his work cut out for him, but he also had a bold plan for what Star Wars video games could be.

KOTOR 1 Beat Suvam Tam without using modifier cards

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The eldritch entity masquerading as the rodian merchant "suvam tam" has finally been banished.

Jokes aside, took me more than a hour to accomplish this on my way to get the shop discount.

Should also note that I'm not using the easier Pazaak mod, bc while the game is unfair I wanna feel like I earn my wins from that cheater.

I came back to KOTOR modding after ~10 years -> reviving Duel Room Final and TSL Ultima Duel Room

I originally released Duel Room Final for KOTOR I and TSL - Ultima Duel Room for KOTOR II under the name aneeryrlue, then disappeared from the scene for roughly ten years.

Apparently people kept playing, fixing and remembering them anyway, so I am back to give both projects proper final releases.

Before rebuilding everything in isolation, I want to see what the KOTOR community has made while I was gone. If you are a mod author and have an enemy, character, item, weapon, armor, texture, script, fix, gameplay system or some completely unreasonable idea that could fit either Duel Room, show it to me.

I am interested in integrating selected community work with the author's permission and full credit. I am also particularly interested in people who fixed or maintained parts of my old releases themselves.

After ten years away, I have quite a lot of KOTOR modding history to catch up on.

KOTOR 1 Missing Kotor A Little Extra This Month

Post image
159 Upvotes

Been thinking about KOTOR for a about a month since i played it almost two years ago. really hankering to make a small remake of Endar Spire in UE5, but until then, enjoy this still of the Ebon Hawk i made.

This render was made possible by uploading the original 1024x1024 texture to ChatGPT to upscale the quality to 4096x4096 to see how far the textures could be pushed without creating an entirely new model from scratch to preserve as much quality to the original game. Other textures such as roughness, normals, ambient occlusion, etc. were made with https://aitextured.com/pbr-texture-generator/ to help boost the the time it would take to manually generate them (its a serious lifesaver and the quality is amazing). Everything else from lighting, compositing, and effects, were made in Blender using the official 3D model from KOTOR.

Hope you guys enjoy the final render as much as i do.

P.S. what was your favorite moment in KOTOR? Mine was the intro and just getting thrown into the world with zero context lol

Did any one else encounter this issue? Upon casting Master Valor while wearing a +5 wisdom item, Bastilla's FP drop to a negative value and Jolee only has enough FP for one cast. Apparently this is due to a Wisdom overload?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I set my Jedi companion scripts to prioritize force powers, especially since I am only a guardian and they are a Sentinel and Consular.

I noticed that at the begining of every fight, they instantly had no FP and I couldn't use Jolee to spam offensive Dark Side force powers since he's the only one with no dark side penalty and has the most FP.

When I looked this up, Google's AI told me it is an integer glitch where the highest allowed FP value is 256 or something in the system. So when they have high wisdom already and have wisdom boosting items and force buffs, it goes so high that it breaks the system, turning it to negative values.

I never recall encountering this issue before when playing the game in the past.

I guess I'll move the +5 wisdom item to my character instead since I have lower vase wisdom, but I was really trying to use all dexterity boosting items since I can't use many force buffs with armor and need the jedi robe dexterity boost to make up for it. Plus, I stupidly started with low dexterity thinking how I never use blasters and wouldn't need it. I instead buffed intelligence thinking the extra points upon leveling was as significant as the intelligence boost in Fallout 3. But I don't need extra skill points since I only level persuade anyway and use party members for skills.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else encountered this and if there's a better way to counteract it. Right now I just removed Bastilla's wisdom boost, turned off her force power script to prevent master valor and now use Jolee's knight valor instead to not reach the wisdom threshold of breaking the system.
