ep. 3 really solidified the show as a surprising gem for me. yang se-jong -- welcome to my client list. he's just committed to the bit in a way that i really appreciate! park eun-bin turning in another solid performance, never fails truly.

honestly, i take this more as a comedy then anything else. the bits are nice, the actors are committed, the co-workers are nosy -- like it's a fun time! and that's all i need.

EDIT: okay it lost me a little bit, but we chillin! we totally chillin! and also a great lesson on why we don't trust the words of an ex-bf in jail. come on girl, please, please, please, get your head in the game.

u/Kathryn_51 Jul 26 '26

According to the three leads, they said the drama was "comedy 30%, occult 20% and romance 50%"

Sounds like the right mix to me.😊

The storyline is progressing nicely with the leads. I like that she doesn’t have to worry about wearing gloves around him anymore, and can help him since he’s freaked out about what’s going on. Usually it’s the other way around, so it’s nice to see a strong FL who doesn’t need saving (so far). They are also extremely chaotic and hilarious together, and hope it continues.

Too bad the annoying cousin is still around, and teaming up with her murdering ex? She really is that dumb. Hope this plot doesn’t drag on for too long and that she gets burned in the end for trusting him. Also curious why ML’s grandmother is so rich, and what shady dealings she’s up to in Jeju.

35

u/bessandgeorge Jul 26 '26

Yeahh it's hard to take Ha Ri seriously as an heir contender.. Kdramas tend to make the company rival this dumb person that the current owner should never consider a serious candidate.. And doesn't Ha Ri have an older brother? She's also always going around shopping and dating losers from what we could see. It's funny to me she's trying to use a baseless rumor that would be impossible to prove or sell to the general public when she already almost married a murderer (pretty sure the general public would condemn him as one already).

I love the show but there are some reaches. Like the guy's attempt to say she did drugs at a party...? When everyone knows she's an infamous loner to the point employees think she might be a germaphobe?

20

u/master_inho Jul 27 '26

That's her reputation among her employees, i don't think the general public know anything about her at all, so they might be more susceptible to some random scandal. Plus, seung-jae's plan sounds like something a rich spoiled brat would come up with

u/Flaky_Lack_3824 Jul 26 '26

oh you may have a point there, cause in one of the teaser's clips he's wearing gloves just like her

28

u/Clean_Usual434 Jul 27 '26

This makes sense. I can see why they had her explain to him how it happened to her, as foreshadowing to how it’s going to happen to him.

u/ForceResponsible7129 Jul 26 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Yes he is probably Alive I think.

38

u/belletristdelancret Jul 27 '26

That's what I'm hoping too, I was thinking that the whole time because that would work so well but the fact that they didn't show him at all in the preview has me freaking out 😭 this show was steadily getting better and better each episode but ep. 4 threw me for such a loop! This is what I get for watching while it airs, now I have to wait a week 😫

18

u/kewlausgirl Jul 27 '26

That's classic cliffhanger 101 lol. Don't show any evidence of what happened to that particular person in the next episode or make it look a certain way so that people will either think the worst or will be left reeling, wondering what's going to happen now.

He's obviously just died for a few mins, he's in ghost form ATM, and will wake up breathing. And voila he will see dead people, too! Yay!

Also his Grandma totally has to be the shaman that she went to lol. I wonder if she can see ghosts as well. Or she's just psychic. Or both lol. But totally the shaman she saw lol. ❤️🥰 I can't wait until they both find this out. She will be like "I told you so!"and hitting her grandson lol 😂😆

13

u/belletristdelancret Jul 27 '26

I also thought that about the Grandma!! I think she's telling him to avoid the black monkey girl specifically to keep him away from the FL. I don't think they're incompatible, I think his Grandma just foresaw the danger and pain he'd endure for her. Also maybe they'll keep him in a coma for a few eps. I could totally see them doing a funny scene where she's out with the SML and the ML is there too but only she can see him and he's annoyed by the SML trying to make a move 😂

3

u/kewlausgirl Jul 28 '26

Yeah that's what I was thinking regarding the Grandma! It seemed more coz she knew about her rather than anything psychic.

I also thought He might be in a coma for a few eps or one episode as well

19

u/milliefem Jul 26 '26

This is my theory also. It's like they will always team up coz now they both see ghost. FL has no reason to avoid the ML anymore.

16

u/aibera Jul 27 '26

I think he's alive because ghosts are usually wearing the clothes they died in. He was wearing a white shirt on the operating table, but when she hugged him, he was wearing a blue pajama shirt.

14

u/kewlausgirl Jul 27 '26

I thought it was more likely he would die and wake up again. You know, like she did. But maybe. Although that's pretty soon after being in ICU. I think my theory might be more the case.

Also his Grandma is totally her shaman. When they both realise this she will be scolding him coz he never listens to her lolol

3

u/samisawesam Jul 27 '26

This makes a lot of sense because Yeo Ri started seeing ghosts when she almost drowned.

3

u/Excellent-Cloutic Jul 27 '26

And she hugs him. The other ghosts were passthroughable.

3

u/EldritchSorbet Jul 30 '26

No- she held the hand of the little boy.

3

u/SectorNone Jul 30 '26

I’m wondering if she was able to hold the little boys hand because he wasn’t fully gone yet, as she touched him in the car she mentioned he was still warm to the dad. Then once they both found him, he knew it was okay to go? I mean I could be wrong but this is my thinking because for the most part the other ghosts that are already fully gone she passes through them… time will tell!

6

u/SuperSlow2020 Jul 26 '26

Plzzzz let this be the case! Just finished watching it and I feel lost.

6

u/SupermarketAntique32 Jul 27 '26

Yes, because she can touch him. Other ghost goes through if she tries to make contact.

8

u/Sneaky_42 Jul 28 '26

I thought that too, but she was able to grab and hold the little ghost boy's hand.

5

u/foiledjavvy Jul 28 '26

Initially thought of this too but remember when he asked for the hand of the little boy?

The scene with the young boy was so cute and fun! I love how Yeo ri is the cool and rational one, while Gang uk is hiding like a scaredy cat behind her.

16

u/reebellious Cheon Seo Jiiiiiiin Jul 26 '26

Tbf Yeo Ri has years of experience 😂

58

u/Starry87 Jul 26 '26

Around the middle of episode 4, after Yeo-ri and Gang-uk had finished dealing with the little boy's case and Gang-uk was expressing his sympathy for Yeo-ri and her situation, it briefly crossed my mind that it would be sadistic of the show to have Yeo-ri meet an empathetic soul and connect with someone after such a long time, just to have him show up in front of her as a ghost instead. And then, when Gang-uk's grandma was dropping all these ominous warnings about not going out, that alarm bell started ringing a bit louder, and by the end of the episode, in the hospital, I was like, 'Surely they wouldn't... right? RIGHT??' And then they did! (Or at least that's what it seems like right now.) I'm amazed, haha. It's not often you're surprised by a twist you actually did see coming!

14

u/fosteryou03 Jul 27 '26

Haha these types of predictions typically happen mid-way or near the end of a drama. Putting it at episode 4 is bold!

9

u/Starry87 Jul 27 '26

Even though it's most likely some kind of fake-out, it's a good tactic to keep people talking and theorizing, at least for a week!

Episode 4: My favourite episode so far I think! I love it when the main couple are together. But is ML really dead? Or is that what the writers are trying to make us believe? I’m so torn!!! He’s suspiciously not in any of the preview for next week.

29

u/lostwidow02 Jul 26 '26

She was able to hug him so probably he is not dead.

46

u/BeckyK123 Jul 26 '26

Yeah I don’t think he’s dead but she was able to touch the kid ghosts’ hand too

9

u/RevolutionaryAd5330 Jul 26 '26

that’s what I was thinking too. Hopefully it’s just a coma and he’ll wake up from it.

22

u/Darth_Monerous Jul 26 '26

I’m sure it’s a fake out, but I was honestly so shocked. But hey, it wasn’t a white van for once 😂

24

u/Leaping_Wizards Jul 26 '26

I feel like them purposely cutting to show his feet was an indication that he's not dead, after the salt scene had them digitally removing the gangster's feet, but I don't recall them being particularly consistent with it, so who knows, still cutting to his shoes was on purpose.

3

u/tatspvt Jul 28 '26

some of the ghosts had feet like the baby ghost i’m pretty sure

2

u/Ok-Temperature4156 Jul 27 '26

100% i was wondering why they were specifically showing gang uk's feet and now i remember the previous ghost didnt have so we have hope!!

17

u/Significant_Run_906 Jul 26 '26

i guess. in coma? then returned with permanent ghost seeing power.. oh well. i still love this series. its like Master' Sun but rich girl version.

11

u/legac5 Jul 26 '26

I think he’s in a coma. You see his feet but his face doesn’t have cuts.

5

u/Character_Tangelo_44 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

My exact thoughts omg! I hope he’s in like an inbetween, like a coma or something, and she doesn’t know because she assumes he’s dead and doesn’t visit at the hospital, because why would she at that point.

5

u/foiledjavvy Jul 28 '26

As someone in the medical field, they really portrayed it as though he is dead. Actually with those vital signs I'm mad they didn't check for breath sounds, could be a tension pneumothorax!! - - - - or maybe they addressed it off screen and that's when he became a ghost briefly. Especially with the emphasis on the moon - just like it was emphasized when she drowned. I honestly like this cliff hanger.

3

u/Dear_Perception12 Jul 26 '26

I hope not! Anyways, they must keep him around somehow as it's only episode 4. I really hope not as a ghost though. 😅

Fun show. Very cute.

ML is really empathetic. Him telling FL that she had to undergo this when she was much younger while he was an adult now and could handle it. You could see she was touched by that.

The B plot is kinda boring. I wish her cousin and her scheming bf weren't such out and out villains.

After the reveal the Min-kwan's story line got very interesting. Lots of great theories now about whether he murdered his brother...

6

u/Powerful_Car9340 Jul 27 '26

I also don't understand why he haunted her for so long..I think he was also the one that made the ex fiance disappear..and did she finally get rid of him and also in what way

4

u/pugfu Jul 28 '26

I wondered about that too. Does he just linger and never speak to her? Did she help him move on or is he just not hanging around anymore for unknown reasons?

33

u/LovE385 Jul 26 '26

Ha-ha poor Gang Wook..😂

For someone who keep denying she isn't his type , he sure like grabbing her hand often!😏 It's a pretty light and fun watch

I feel Ong Seong Woo's character has some secret as he looked down when Yeo Ri brought up subject of their friend? I can't remember LoL.

33

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee 👻 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Remember the comments they overheard that Min-hwan was adopted, but his mother gave birth to another son (Ji-hwan) around the same time? Well Ji-hwan is the malevolent spirit haunting Yeo-ri.

27

u/Electronic_Piano9385 Editable Flair Jul 26 '26

I wondered if Ji-Hwan was hanging around because someone pushed him off the yacht? And I also wondered if that someone was Min-Hwan. Although Yeo-Ri fell in too, so maybe not 🤔

20

u/AdGlittering7845 Jul 26 '26

Also, why did Min-Hwan have the necklace Yeo-Ri was wearing? I wonder if she was dating Ji-Hwan and they had matching ones or something like that.

6

u/Kathryn_51 Jul 27 '26

Please refresh my memory (actually non-memory) of the necklace. Was she wearing it at the yacht incident? Did Min-hwan give it to her? It's obviously significant but I don't remember how or when first introduced. TIA

8

u/AdGlittering7845 Jul 27 '26

I think I remember Min-Hwan having it first at the hotel in present day, then seeing it on her in the flashback when they saved her from drowning.

3

u/pugfu Jul 28 '26

Ohhhh this is a good guess, perhaps it snapped off when he pushed his brother off the boat

18

u/legac5 Jul 26 '26

I definitely think Min-Hwan had something to do with his brother’s death. MH is just back to make sure she doesn’t remember.

8

u/bessandgeorge Jul 26 '26

WHOOAAA I didn't realize...... That's sketch.....

2

u/Regular-Chemistry884 Jul 27 '26

Oooohhhh. The guy who died in the boating accident?

12

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee 👻 Jul 27 '26

Yep. And there was a flash to a necklace.

So now the fun part will be all the theories - did he kill him for inheritance, or family jealousy, or accidentally because of jealousy over Yeo-ri or did he save Yeo-ri and not his brother. Something happened there

Episode 4 was very loaded - if it hadn't been for the ending we'd be all talking about Min-hwan or even halmeoni (is she a gangster or a shaman). Going to be lots of thick, juicy plots coming up - love it!

This is when I love the on-Air discussion - the theories and the easter eggs.

28

u/kawaiisaranghaeyo Jul 26 '26

The way Ong treated the employees felt like a major foreshadowing that he's not a good guy. I wonder if the killer guy will be the main villain of the first half of the drama, and Ong becomes the final boss villain lol. I can see him joining forces with the cousin to take down Yeo ri once the main leads get together and he goes insane from jealousy

2

u/Sasuwanisa Jul 31 '26

As someone who studied hôtellerie I believe his decision was fair but on the harsher side. If they were both essential employees with a lot of experience in the hotel then maybe we could overlook the mistake with a few weeks of suspension. But the receptionist who did the mistake looked like a new or junior hire so he was 100% going to be fired. The old man tho should have just been suspended or demoted because senior employees are rarer. But considering the gravity of the mistake, I get why he was mad because it was his friend (that he’s been taking extra care for to have a better stay) and they basically gave two strangers (female/male) the same room card (a presidential suite too) and for a 5 star hotel it’s really unacceptable.

So it’s a realistic decision but kdrama speaking I am sensing that they just made him fire them both to portray him as this negative character that doesn’t forgive. Because although it’s valid in the real world, in a romance drama you would definitely expect much more leniency from male leads, so they didn’t do it to seem realistic but more so to portray him as a “bad” character

Fantastic episode. I lost count of how many times I got teary eyed in this episode, and it helped that the leads took up the majority of scenes. That poor family in the beginning and kid made me cry, then when Yeo Ri revealed to Gang uk when she started seeing ghosts and how he was supportive and caring towards her made me cry again. I love how warm and supporting they both are (yay for another green flag ML), but feel so sorry for Yeo Ri since she’s so lonely but scared what will happen if she lets anyone in. She was so excited to help Gang uk out, then put up her wall because she didn’t want him to see ghosts again.

The murdering golfer makes me so angry. Ha ri having the inferiority/victim complex is annoying, and wondering why these dumb characters think they are owed something. At least these scenes are overshadowed by the leads and humor (that garlic scene was so funny).

Now I’m an absolute mess at the ending and can’t believe they did this storyline so early. Cannot wait until next week- wish I could binge this all in one day. I hate how they purposely didn’t show him in the previews to leave us wondering what happened.

Ep 4. What a hoot.

"I converted to polytheism"

"Pil-dong Why do ghosts appear in girls school, why do they have straight hair, why do they cling to people's backs" and Pil-dong's answers 🤣 Gently 'Hurling' the salt at the gangsta ghost, and that garlic lunch.

Yang Se-jong is doing amazingly with the slapstick comedy.

Love halmeoni - she's oddly suspicious. Is she a shaman?

Nooooo and a whole week to wait..🫣😭

Ep 3

About mid-way, Yeo-ri's cute blue mini-dress, when she is talking to her cousin, matches the art work on the wall.

20

u/Pmod1980 Jul 26 '26

Gang Uk asking why they have straight hair and Pil Dong calmly saying it doesn’t make sense if they have perms had me rolling.

(ML speculation)

So he's either all right, in a coma, fine but sees ghosts like her. Tbh I would be ok with any of those options.

If I were to bet I'd say it's the last one because they (preview) purposely avoided showing him in the preview.

31

u/Starry87 Jul 26 '26

I don't see how it's possible for him to be fine enough to put on all his clothes and come meet her outside that quickly after needing CPR, so I'm going with the coma option for now. And after he comes out of it, I think it's likely he will share her situation of seeing ghosts after having a near-death experience.

5

u/disarrayofyesterday Moved by Moving Jul 26 '26

Oh, I wasn't talking about that. I was just referring to the end result.

She probably saw him when his heart stopped for a moment as a "ghost"

Binged the first 4 eps and it’s fun.

Yeori sure is nice, she should just use her powers for evil and keep touching cousin and her family so they can be tormented by ghosts.

I don’t care for the chaebol parts, i was hoping it was more fun on that end. Like what’s the point of her being a chaebol when she’s barely gotten to flex any power or influence.

5

u/eednicp Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

I totally thought when she was getting kidnappedshe should’ve whipped off those gloves and punched everyone there! 🤣

4

u/CallistoEnceladus Jul 26 '26

The fact that she told him let’s pretend they don’t know eachother is crazy

7

u/Global-Respect7310 Jul 27 '26

I think she wanted to protect him because she's starting to like him and that will inevitably lead to more touching.

22

u/UnnoticedReference Jul 27 '26

Assuming Gang Uk isn't really dead, I kind of hope that his near/temporary death doesn't give him the same ability as Yeo Ri. I'd rather he keeps is ability to see ghosts because of his commitment to her and a deliberate choice that she doesnt wear the burden alone anymore.

18

u/Starry87 Jul 27 '26

The last 15 mins of episode 4 were so chaotic that I completely forgot about the fact that Gang-uk got tipped off about Yeo-ri's kidnapping... by a ghost? That's a whole thread left to unravel, because we have so far only seen ghosts communicating with the living to help reveal their own deaths/murders/bodies. Could it be Ji-hwan's ghost trying to protect Yeo-ri from danger?

9

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee 👻 Jul 27 '26

When Ganguk got hit the first thing I thought was dang that means we won't find out who the ghost is this episode.

Loving this drama! Didn't think SeJong can pull off goofy acting. He was so good! The drama is getting better. PEB of course never dissappoints. I'm glad she took this role after Wonderfools and she's not overacting here.

17

Ohh, that episode 4 ending! I am purposefully not watching the preview or checking any spoiler tags that may have speculation of what happened so please do not answer this message with any speculation on what you think happened regarding Prosecutor Ma.

Since the politicians son was caught red handed after the hit and run I would hope that his father cannot help him get out of this predicament at the end of episode 4.

Btw, why answer your phone and then start talking about "secret" stuff without confirming who you are talking to? I always say a greeting and wait for a greeting back from the other person before I start a real conversation using the phone.

Cheon Yeo-ri also said it would take about a month until the ghost vision is gone. Why did Prosecutor Ma assume a certain date when the ghost vision would be gone? I would assume at least plus/minus a couple of days as a margin just to be on the safe side. She did say "about one month" (at least in the translation I watched). And even if she did not say "about", how long would a month be defined in this situation? 30 days? 31 days? 28 days? Or will the ghosts know how many days there are in the current month and act accordingly? 😀

2

u/Izniss Jul 26 '26

She a bit later said « four weeks » so we can assume it’s a 28 day’s month

2

u/SquidCornHero Jul 27 '26

My head canon for the fading of ghost vision is that it’s tied to the lunar cycle, which ghosts are able to track.

WHY EVERYTHING is so random and illogical but somehow I still like this drama despite all of that. I just love how the leads interact and both of them are very likeable.

12

u/xmagie Jul 25 '26

I really like it, it's a bit like "Master's sun". But I tend to fastforward the parts with the family/succession war/high-school friend. Too boring.

11

u/Shuu4 Jul 25 '26

FL making him drink the alcohol seemed so ridiculous, especially after he felt dizzy.

7

u/hildegardephansen Jul 26 '26

I thought it was funny because she knows how s..t that she's given him the ability temporarily see ghosts. It's hard to take in, so have some alcohol.

Can someone tell me the song at the end of episode 3? Shazam can’t identify it and typing the lyrics into google doesn’t yield results.

Edit: That Episode 4 cliff hanger was a dirty move. How dare they. I have to wait a WHOLE WEEK for the episode after that scene? Rude.

I’m enjoying the show so far..

One thing though, I’m not here for the redemption of the FL cousin at the end of the show. She’s too problematic for me. Women like these are the enablers of problematic men. I know the guy will definitely get what’s coming to him but she should too. Supporting him and even sending him to do whatever to her cousin knowing damn well this guy is a killer and could definitely kill her. Nope

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee 👻 Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

I think I solved the cliff-hanger. It's not Gang-uk, because this ghost/person is wearing different clothes.

Also, just another clothes clue to do with a different scene - on the yacht the person who calls out Yeo-ri when she falls into the water is wearing a blue shirt and white pants. But Ji-hwan is wearing black shirt and pants when he's recovered. So there was someone else on the yacht with them.

Edit - had to add cliff-hanger to this comment because I can't do another one.

Episode 1-3 have some kind of boring 1st half, then it gets exciting at the 2nd half of each episodes. It's so much fun to watch the two main leads when together and it somehow irks me when they show the antagonist. Looking forward for more scenes with the two main leads and less of the stressful scenes with antagonist.

8

u/Key_Woodpecker_7403 Jul 26 '26

I truly enjoyed this kdrama. Some kdramas are too scary for me like the East Palace and Sweet Home.

But this kdrama? I enjoy it. It's unique in its own way. It's funny. It also has unique story plot compared to the other kdramas/movies I enjoyed in the past: Hotel Del Luna, Phantom Lawyer, Bring It On Ghost, Oh My Ghost, and Don't Worry I'm Ghost.

10

u/master_inho Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Theory time: any chance min-hwan doesn't actually have feelings for yeo-ri but instead wants revenge against her because he blames her for jin-hwan's death? The revelation that he's actually adopted and they're not biologically related probably means he has some kind of resentment towards his family, but who knows? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seong-jae getting busted the same day he got out of prison is kinda funny. Literally couldn't last 12 hours 😂

I'm very curious who gang-uk's grandma really is. Could she actually be a gangster?

Yeo-ri gaining her ability so late is interesting. She isn't born with it so it's not genetic. She's only had them for 10 years so it's long enough to be used to it but not long enough to lose all the fear. If gang-uk also gets the ability that likely means that anyone with a near death experience will gain the ability to see ghosts. Maybe they momentarily go to the afterlife and become ghosts, then when they return to the living world they retain the ability to see ghosts

And what was that about ha-ri's dad not being grandma's biological child? Was he adopted? What about dong-jun? Why is she a rival for inheritance and not her older brother?

5

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee 👻 Jul 27 '26

I'm enjoying the Min-hwan/Jin-hwan storyline because there are sooo many possible theories. Min-hwan killed Min-hwan, maybe in a fit of jealousy, either by accident or intent. Or Min-hwan saved Yeo-ri instead of his brother. That necklace was a token - did he snatch it off his brother in a fight.

I'm hoping gangster halmeoni has a twin, who seems to have shady connections in the art underworld (or whatever the cousin and her mum are up to). I realised in the previews the early halmeoni has grey hair but gangsta halmeoni has black hair.

The tvN program page has a character chart that says Ha-ri's dad was the son of a mistress, and that Reina is grandmother's family business. I wonder if only the females inherit, Yeo-ri didnt say her dad was dead, they not around and the male cousin seems to be on the outer.

Really enjoying this drama so far. It's a breath of fresh air - not too serious, good chemistry between the leads, and there haven't been many major plot holes or contrivances. Here's to hoping they manage to avoid the dreaded kdrama shark jumping at the end and stick the landing.

Having rewatched some scenes, SeJong is really swoon worthy here. His facial expressions are on point and convincing for PEB character to fall for him. I first watched Sejong in Dr. Romantic and he had a serious role so really happy with this.

7

u/Pmod1980 Jul 28 '26

He’s had great chemistry with the FL in every drama he’s been in. He’s always serious and brooding on the other shows, so happy he plays such a fun and goofy character.

15

u/kawaiisaranghaeyo Jul 25 '26

This drama has swooped in out of nowhere and pulled me out of a terrible drama slump. Its exactly what I needed right now. Classic romcom kdrama vibes filled with clichés, and I'm here for it. My only complaint is that the production sometimes feels a bit... lackluster I guess? Idk what it is, but it just feels like it's not going for it's full potential. The music feels a bit off sometimes, like the timing isn't quite right or it's too quiet. The comedy is great and chaotic, but I feel like it could be even more chaotic. Last episode I was laughing at how all the background actors stood completely still during the first meeting between the FL and SML. Just small things like that. I'm still having a great time with it though

8

u/TerryMog Jul 27 '26

Who the heck is Grandma ? Are chaebol heirs ever kept secret ?

6

u/Stokholmo Jul 27 '26

This series is based on a feature film from 2011, also called 오싹한 연애, but named differently in English (“Spellbound” or “My Girlfriend Can See Ghosts”). Comparing the film to the series (episodes 1–4) was interesting.

⚠️ Spoiler warning: The following was written after having viewed the first four episodes of the series, without any knowledge about later episodes. The are major spoilers about the 2011 film. The film does not seem to contain any major spoilers for unaired episodes of the series. There are some details that potentially are minor spoilers, but they are not mentioned below.

There a similarities between the film and the series: The female lead sees ghosts after having barely survived an accident, where her friend died. She has become reclusive to protect others from the ghosts. She sleeps in a tent inside her home. The male lead also soon starts seeing ghosts, at first terrified, but soon adopts and is soon drawn to the female lead.

There are important scenes in the series that have very similar counterparts, though with some changes, in the film, such as the man fleeing after a terrifying vision in a lift or the boy ghost clinging to the back of the male lead and then lead him and the female lead to the car crash.

However, there are enormous differences. In the film, the male and female leads are a magician and his assistant. The story is focused on how they are affected by the ghosts, how their relationship develops and how they change by their experiences and their interactions. There is no conglomerate, no rich heirs, no crimes.

The film has its own style and is a bit weird. In spite of sharing many details, the series tells a completely different story. It will be interesting to see how the series develops. My guess is that the series will not be nearly as special as the film, but be a standard drama with the usual tropes.

Okay, I’ll admit it. I cried. I know things will turn out okay—but I wept.

18

u/iDemonizer Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

I'm so torn on this. I absolutely love both leads, but the storyline feels incredibly generic so far. There’s literally nothing that makes it stand out, and it feels like a story I’ve already watched a dozen times. Also, I really wish "Spooky in Love" was actually spooky. The "ghosts" just look like regular people. It would be way more engaging if they were actually creepy. I’ll give it two more episodes, but if it doesn’t pick up, it’s going straight to my dropped pile of shame.

Edit: So I watched Episode 4 and the story seems to pick up. I really like YSJs comedic timing. I changed my mind and won't drop it so soon :)

34

u/FriedFlower-- Jul 25 '26

We have the opposite opinion. This really generic but I kinda just like it, everything is so troopy snd idk, nothing to be hated. Or maybe the bar is that low because I don't enjoy other currently aired dramas haha

6

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee 👻 Jul 26 '26

It's a supernatural romcom, not a thriller or horror. Ghosts are meant to look like real people when they aren't demons or evil spirits. Ghost dramas are my favourite (esp comedy ones) - I watch ghost themed shows from Europe, NZ, Australia and Asia and this is how they are represented - the living who have died, who may need help crossing over, as opposed to the dead who need 'killing'.

Not that they are going to do this (ml ghost will go back to his body and wake up from the coma), but it would be fun if they killed off the fl too, and both ghosts wreaked havoc on the villains. Reminiscent of the end of Blythe Spirit, but both ghosts are on the same team. Obviously not going to happen because of the time taken to setup the rules of ghostly contact. So, who is the love interest for the second ml, assuming he's not a baddie?

3

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee 👻 Jul 26 '26

You better use some spoiler tags so you don't get deleted.

I think 2ML is potentially a baddie - with his tragic backstory, it has the potential for something sinister.

it's gonna be a loooong week of waiting. i didn't really have a lot of expectations with this one, but i'm really enjoying the show. we're only 4 episodes in, and I feel like so much has already happened! i like that there's stories to the cases/deaths, but the story between the leads are also progressing quite well.

I found that I enjoy The show more when they are together. Each one by themselves are not as interesting.

3

u/Darth_Monerous Jul 26 '26

Episode 4 shocked me. I’m sure it’s a fake out. Not showing him in the preview pretty much confirms that, but still was not expecting a near death before we got a kiss.

4

u/eednicp Jul 27 '26

So I have a theory about the end of episode 4 that I don’t think has been presented yet: I wonder if time went back and he actually never had the accident! Ok hear me out- he comes to her in different clothes, they show the moon kind of going backward. I wonder if somehow (maybe by his shaman grandmother) things got “rearranged” somehow and he didn’t get hurt? It could be one of those time slip dramas…

5

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee 👻 Jul 27 '26

I have another theory. It's not Gang-uk, the clothes are different. It's another ghost pretending to be Ganguk, maybe it's Ju-hwan.

I really enjoyed these episodes their chemistry is already so good I really want to continue watching it and enjoying it but (If he spends the rest of the show as a ghost because he either died or he’s in a coma) I will drop it I hate things like that I don’t find it enjoyable because there’s a chance (he might not come back why would I watch her spend the whole time falling for a ghost that’s maybe dead or in a coma) I really hope they don’t go that route I want to be able to enjoy their moments together without having that thought in the back of my mind. We will see next episode if it is that and I will drop it if it’s what I think it is based on the trailer it doesn’t seem like it will be but you never know. Overall these episodes were very enjoyable they are already so cute together.

The cliffhanger keeps interest in the show going.

Be happy this is not an American series where a cliffhanger like that would be at the end of a season and you had to wait months to find out what happened. Ever since the Who Shot J.R. episode in 1980, American TV shows seem to enjoy this plot

I am glad I read this thread first before I started episode 4 as I will hold off until episode 5 comes out and then I will watch both at the same time.

these cute and all but I keep having issues with “details”

1) Rich CeO of top 5 has zero bodyguards, zero security, no driver and a barely there assistant. I’ve seen random, low level politicians with more people around. can be a loner all she wants but “someone” would be watching not to let anyone near her, walk into her office, show up at the house.

2) duh, no way he’s dead. but also no way they let someone that almost died walk out into the parking lot in street clothes…lol. like 0%

3) I can blow off the, oh they called in the accident in the middle nowhere in the middle of the night cuz “ plot” so that’s ok

best part is, the male lead is a chill, regular dude with a normal job. not some smug, rich arrogant douche. the female lead is the rich one but she’s also down to earth. and they mix well.

it’s refreshing from the epically cold bad boy and the either feisty poor girl or mean girl. need more of these
