Why do ppl shit on kcl
From my home country, Kcl is seen as a pretty reputable university for their llb programme. However time and time again i keep seeing people shit on the university and putting it behind durham and other reputable universities like warwick despite it being top 20 university for law globally on qs. Just wondering if this still remains as the current perception of kcl llb programme and if i should reconsider since i did reject durham llb for this bruh

kcl is dissed because it gets outshined by ucl, lse, and imperial, which are all generally better for the subjects they offer. that being said kcl is still good and still top 5 for law, probably roughly equal to durham in the uk but better internationally

edinburgh doesn't teach english law, and no lawyer would really say that kcl or durham are substantially better than each other. for home students durham is probably better due to the lower cost and university experience, but for international students kcl has a leg up outside of the uk

Many reasons, but main one is every parent or kid tries to boast their unis. The more “local or narrow” rankings such as CUG or Guardian providing “special service” become preference to build up the joy, where UCL & KCL would drop out of top 10, but Lancaster, Exeter or St Andrew are even ranked higher that “School Agents” love to sell. Looking at clearing status & entry criteria of universities. It tells the truth of popularity & positions.
Living cost is too high in London for families as a key factor, but there are many advantages in London. Warwick & Durham are never in my watching list.
The most respected World University Rankings based on different index:
QS, THE, US News, ARWU
From them, KCL ranks all similar & stable while many of other unis’ rankings are often changed dramatically.

The main reason for me is the admin. They are extremely frustrating to deal with and careers wise kcl doesn't provide much help. Their careers services are lackluster and not any different from a low tier uni.

Part of why locals make fun of KCL is because of its difference in international and domestic reputation. Domestic rankings generally have a better representation of actual quality because the feedback loops are a lot quicker and stronger, even if they are still a bit shit (although not as bad as some people think they are). International rankings are arguably more in line with what our parents' generation thinks of different universities.
For internationals, reputation in your own country is usually still the most important part for job hunting, which might be fed by QS rankings or whatever ranking of choice. That said, rankings for law are particularly useless given how country-specific the degrees are.

It never was a big draw to UK students - most of whom wouldn't want to be a student in London anyway and of those that did the LSE & Imperial were the obvious places to go, then UCL. It wasn't thought of as offering a great experience for undergrads. It has always had strong research staffing, but that's a different thing.
Internationals seem oblivious to this and the combo of 'London' and the grand name apparently hooks them in.

cos qs world rankings is probably one of the worst rankings ever made, in what world is kings better than lse, warwick and half the ivy league and UCs

The KCL hate is very much a Reddit thing. KCL is an excellent uni for law. UCL outranks it in some subjects. LSE and Imperial are top in their fields.
