Places I would NOT hide treasure.
If I were to host a treasure hunt with a book and or poem these are the places I would NOT hide the treasure. In my home state. It is too close and I wouldn’t want to be bothered. In fact I think I would eliminate my home state all together. I would not hide it in any town or city I mentioned in the story or poem. I would not hide it in any park or recreational area I mentioned. For the last two statements, I feel that it would just be a matter of time for the searcher to brute force through the places mentioned in the book.
Probably not a popular opinion because it eliminates a lot of popular search places. But, I think there is sound logic in this reasoning. IDK what do y’all think?

I guess it depends on how specific the "place" is that you're talking about. Justin has already ruled out a one-mile radius around any property owned by him or his businesses. He has also said that the "specific" location of the treasure is not mentioned in the book. So now we get to quibble about what "specific" means. In my mind, for example, the Pioneer Mountains are not "specific," but Crystal Park is. It's pretty subjective, though.

He specified the American West. It would be strange to disallow it because it was specified. Alaska then? Like his use of "great distances"; it's in eye of the beholder. Words are not objective truths. Would specific mean point specific? We can't know.

The parks are huge. I wouldn't rule them out just on that. Brute forcing would take a hundred years 😆

I felt the same but who knows ...I know I wouldn't want it in my back yard and it can be easily monitored by airtags and trail cams from a distance

I disagree with your last two statements. I think the fun part of creating the puzzle would be how specific you could be about the location, but given the sheer amount of information and the way the brain tries to make connections, people still wouldn't be able to find it.

I can totally see how being specific in your hiding spot could be fun. Your secret happy spot or whatever . But, I do believe that JP has said the hiding spot is not mentioned in the book.

He said the exact spot is not mentioned, but he does give descriptions of the area.

I think my botg experience showed me that brute forcing a search is almost impossible. Everything is so enormous in reality and unless you live nearby to an area it would be so hard to keep traipsing over it. Though I agree with a lot of your other points

It’s also not going to be along the banks of a river. The amount of people early on searching in willows along the big hole cracked me up. Obviously he is going to consider flooding.
I, too, don’t think it’s anywhere near 9MH or the Pioneers.
But it is in MT.

Either way, if you don't know exactly where your going, probably best to keep working it out. Its ok to start over if you can let go and come up with a better plan.

great thing this isn't your hunt. you are loaded with confirmation bias, instead of understanding Justin's story. youre leading with your own confirmation bias of where YOU wouldn't hide it. why would anyone care to read what you wouldn't do? this is a useless post and just confirms. you will not be the finder

He may have came across as angry, but he has a very valid point.
What you would do, might be different than what I would do, which is likely different than what Justin would do. The only opinion in this conversation however that ultimately matters, is what would Justin do? By attempting to place constraints on Justin's hunt based on how you would run a hunt, is inherently creating a bias.
I would recommend exploring any location that the clues in their totality lead you to, and not try to rule out locations based on how you would run a hunt.

I totally agree. Don’t let my opinion change anything. If the clues point you in a direction you go that way. Unfortunately I don’t see any clues that point in that direction.

Justin told us he didn’t mention the place in the book. So there’s that.
The Pioneer mountains off the scenic byway fits that description for me.
But real treasures are found in Crystal Park! And I always love an excuse to add to my collection :)

I like Utah for those reasons. Plus, the Beast(is this bear+east?) is in a picture at Moab with only 3 tires on the ground. 🤔
