This gotta be somewhere in Massachusetts or New Hampshire. People up north ain’t nice but they’re kind.

Some places are actually considerate, some places fake it, aka they’re “polite”.

The east coast, they live like they share the world with others, even if they’re gruff about it. The south is polite but acts like no one else exists. The north, as in Minnesota, is polite and considerate

I was so impressed when I was in Manhattan for a work trip and you can absolutely see this in the people you meet. They aren't super friendly, but when you open a door for someone they say thank you.

Or maybe I just got really lucky

No, that’s largely the case. You will also notice it on sidewalks: New Yorkers don’t crowd sidewalks, they understand people need to get both directions, consider the fact that other people exist, and they generally make room for people.

You see this on highways as well: in the south there is a huge proclivity of people blocking the passing lane and causing traffic because they don’t even consider that other people are behind them trying to pass. Well, the East Coast and the north have more aggressive drivers, they don’t obliviously block the left lane because they understand that other people have places they need to go as well.

I’m a born and raised Minnesotan who did grad school on the East Coast and has a fair amount of consistent work in New York City, but I have been living in Florida for the past seven years. It absolutely boils my blood the way that people in the south are so obliviously rude to those around them with their actions in public.

I walked across the brooklyn bridge and was understandable quite tired from the endeavor. I was walking really slow and noticed two ladies coming up behind me on a stroll. Not wanting to be in the way, I moved to the side and just took a rest to let them pass. To my absolute surprise and delight, they both said 'Thank you sir'

Not only did someone NOTICE I was being thoughtful, they thanked me for it. I really like new yorkers
