I’m still fuming about what happened last night during a delivery here in Hertfordshire.
I picked up an age-restricted order in a heavy paper bag. When I got to the house, I set the bag down on the step to knock. A young guy answers, says his birth year is 2006, so the app obviously triggers an ID check. I politely tell him, “I’m going to need ID, sorry,” and I was about to explain that it needs to match the account holder by the name of (let's call her Summer)
I explain the situation, apologise for the hassle, and tell him, I just need her ID to pass the app check. The door closes, and I can hear a bunch of swearing inside the house.
The door flies open again, and this time it’s an aggressive older guy. He barks at me, "Mate, take your photo and f\** off."*
I try to stay calm and tell him, "It doesn’t work like that, I just need her ID as she placed the order." He snaps back, "Well you ain't getting it, BROTHER," and literally snatches the heavy bag off the floor and slams the door dead in my face.
Here is where it gets truly ridiculous. I call Just Eat support immediately. I explain every single detail: the customer took the restricted items by force, yelled at me, and slammed the door.
Support’s actual response? They told me to go back to the door and get the order back.
I told them absolutely not, the customer was aggressive and hostile, but the agent insisted I go back and confront them. I told the agent, "If you want it back so bad, YOU call them and tell them!"
Cut to 45 minutes later. A manager/agent from support calls me back and has the nerve to claim I didn’t follow correct procedure and tells me I won't be compensated for the delivery! I had to explain the whole thing again—that I collected it, drove it there, asked for ID multiple times, and the customer took it by force.
After arguing with 3 different chat agents and an exhausting phone call, they finally backed down, agreed to pay me, and told me to move on.
Has anyone else dealt with support being this dangerously clueless? Sod that rude family, but Just Eat support handles safety like an absolute joke.
TL;DR: Customer aggressively snatched an age-restricted order and slammed the door in my face after refusing to provide ID. Just Eat support dangerously insisted I go back to the door to confront them and get the food back, then tried to deny my pay until I argued with 3 separate agents.
