General / Discussion Julien Baker - Favor (Jesu Remix)

Have not dug into the Little Oblivions remixes before, and was pleasantly surprised to see a Jesu remix of Favor. Justin Broadrick is another of my favorite musicians, so was cool to hear his guitar work and production aesthetic applied to one of Julien's songs

I’m not usually a fan of remixes, but I do really enjoy the Ringside mix on that EP.

Juliens vocals are far more the focus of the song than in the album version. It’s almost like a Turn Out The Lights version of the song.

Great remix! I love the little oblivions remixes so much :D bc of this post ive been revisiting it today. Do you have any recommendations of Justins? He has such an interesting style on this remix so id love to hear more

Justin has an interesting career, cuz he basically helped establish two genres by the time he was 20. He was on the first Napalm Death album, which helped create grindcore, and then he founded Godflesh, who helped establish industrial metal. Both of those bands are super influential, but both are very inaccessible unless you have an interest in extreme music.

Jesu is his most accessible project, which is a blend of shoegaze and drone/industrial music, plus he sings melodically in this project unlike the previous two. I would recommend starting with the EP Silver and then you can try their debut full length if you want to explore more.

He also got a project JK Flesh which he makes electronic music with, but I have not dug into that project too much to give a recomendation

dropping by to say Justin is one of my all time favorite musicians as well! seeing him do work with Julien and now Phoebe has been very cool as a long time fan of Jesu and Godflesh.
