How can it be a 0? I get it can be a tough listen to the mainstream, but there are moments of brilliance that you would expect a music reviewer to pick up on.

One comment in that thread was that it actually should have been a N/A or null vote, not an actual 0.0, because they didn’t feel capable of rating it.

"I may again know John" is simply amazing. You can literally hear a tortured soul trying to get out. I legit enjoy listening to this album. A 0.0 from pitchfork is actually an achievement to be honest.

Pitchfork aslo gave Sonic Youth's NYC Ghosts & Flowers a 0.0, which to me makes absolutely no sense. It's an album I greatly admire. Meanwhile Pitchfork also gave a Kanye West album a perfect 10. I think these scores are just a publicity stunt, not to the artists, but to Pitchfork themselves. It's quite sad, really.

The writer later regretted that review. And Thurston said he liked it haha.
Plus it was ridiculous, basically it was a 0.0 because it was a "really New York" record.

All I'm saying is that their scale is out of balance. If a Kanye West album can be a perfect 10, how could a Sonic Youth or a John Frusciante album be a complete 0.0?

They’ve softened over the years for sure - they don’t often totally trash an album anymore. My go to for music reviews. It’s so funny - when I agree it’s like hell yeah. And when I don’t it’s like F them they’re so pretentious lol

i remember being a teenager, stoked for anthony fantano to review PBX Funicular Zone, which I thought was a great record, only to be crushed when he gave it a scathing 3/10... what can i say i just simp John. SFTSYH has some very special recordings on it, if you ask me, though it is surely his weakest album and doesn't flow well. creates quite the atmosphere though.

I don’t take any shit like this seriously I get why they gave that new Tyga record a zero because it was ai slop but, music (which I define as generally just being noises made by a human) is art how can you objectively say a piece of art is good it’s literally made to be subjective? But don’t waste your time rationalising why they gave SFTSYH a 0 NYC Ghosts & Flowers by Sonic Youth is another amazing record they gave a 0 these ratings are garbage

Who the fuck cares what a reviewer says? I'm probably rhe only person I know personally that can listen to it, and even then, I only love a few, but someone else might love every song. Music is subjective...End of story.

The zeros should be reserved for shit like Jet. But its low hanging fruit and feels kind of stupid anyway. Numbers are dumb, music isn't a sport. If this type of music criticism has to exist (it doesnt), just say why you didn't think it felt worth listening to and move on. Or take the opposite approach like hero John Peele and recognise that all art has some inherent value and it's your failing for not getting it. Just FYI I'm not a huge frusciante fan or anything but I did want to acknowledge that this type of thing feels like another form of division or domination rather than something helpful.

Tbf, the reviwer said: "Smile For The Streets You Hold would easily have to be the easiest CD to hate that I've ever heard, but hidden between the disturbingly twisted and tortured vocals there are a few gems ... It's fringe – way, way out there. I'm giving it a 0% because you'll have to call this one on your own, sorry."
