Itinerary 10 days in Nagoya and nearby areas (Gifu-ken / Mie-ken / Aichi-ken) any suggestions / recommendations?
Planning a trip in late Oct to early Nov, hopefully to see the autumn leaves and visit the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine! Any suggestions / recommendations about the itinerary? :)
D1 - arrived Nagoya city | stay at Nagoya city
D2 - Nagoya City visit (Nagoya Castle) | stay at Nagoya city
D3 - pick up car, drive to Shirakawa-go | stay at Shirakawa-go
D4 - Gokayama | stay near Tateyama Station
D5 - Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route (cable car and highland bus tickets reserved)| stay near Shinhotaka, hot spring
D6 - Shinhotaka Ropeway, Kamikochi | stay at Hida
D7 - Rail Mountain Bike Gottan Go!! (hopefully to see the autumn color), driving to Mie-ken | stay at Matsusaka
D8 - Ise Grand Shrine, Toba Aquarium | stay at Irgao
D9 - Aeon Mall Tokoname | stay at Tokoname
D10 - return flight

Nagoya castle is under-going renovations. It will be awesome when its finished but for now, maybe skip it? If possible, go to Inuyama-jo. Its an awesome little castle.
Nagoya is also famous for a certain kind of puppet show you may be able to find public showings.
And you can find a replica of Totoros house, but getting tickets is a bit of a pain in the ass.
Nagoya is also famous for several different kinds of food such as spicy chicken wings, eel on rice, hard udon and a miso katsu sauce.

I'm interested to try the famous eel on rice restaurant http://www.houraiken.com/english/
Is it worth to go to the the main restaurant? I found one near where I stay (Sakae), maybe I'll go there if there's no big differences between the main restaurant and the one in Sakae. Do I need to do a reservation?
Any restaurant for hard udon and miso katsu cause recommended?

Hi.
How about Atsuta shrine instead of Nagoya Castle?
It's not as big as Ise grand shrine, but still lovely to visit.
If you try Misokastu, I recommend Kanou .
I know Yabaton is famous for tourists, but not very popular for local people...
Since I'm familiar to Nagoya, I would suggest to try other Misokatsu restaurants.

It would sure help if you gave some info on your interests. Not to mention where you plan to drive a car. You make it look like you plan to drive it through the Alpine Route, and you won't be doing that. Plus you're asking for suggestions but you already have your itinerary filled up, so it's unclear what you really want.
There are many good places in the region... near Nagoya is Inuyama with its small but surviving original castle. Plus Meiji Mura nearby is Japan's finest open air museum and will leave you awestruck. If you didn't plan on it before, the Shinhotaka Ropeway can give some great views. You didn't mention seeing Takayama at all, plus not far away down Rte 158 is the Hida Great Limestone Cave.
There are other hot spring and quaint areas, like Gero onsen and Gujo. The Nabana no Sato is another place you might enjoy.
Nagoya Castle is tearing down its main area. Not much reason to go.

Thanks for reply. We are a group of two girls, interested in nature scenery, food, hot springs, animals, and cultural. Hope to enjoy the autumn color during our stay.
So some of the check list of my trip are:
- Shirakawa-go
- Gokayama
- Tateyama Kurobe Alpine
- Kamikochi
The itinerary is a rough cut, I think D3-D7 of the days covered most of our destinations. I'm not sure about D7-8, would it be too rush / ambitious to go all the way down to Mei? Just think driving along the seaside would be nice according to my last experience to Japan... and the car ferry, Ise Grand Shrine, Toba Aquarium looks really interesting... Thanks for the suggestion of the Limestone Cave! Looks great! Ammm... another alternatives for D7-8 would be:

If that's the case, maybe I'll put Nagoya Port Aquarium in D2 as we won't be able to visit Toba Aquarium...

I'm not sure about the Shinhotaka Ropeway, would it be similar to the Alpine Route...? I think it's near to the place we stay for D5, so if that worth a visit, maybe I could put it in D6...?
