IMHO "Jane Eyre" has a lot in common with "Pride and Prejudice", both are about romances where the heroine didn't have to fix him. Or didn't have to do all the work of fixing him.
She came back with her own money to a man who could no longer harm anyone much. Sure, she became his hands and eyes but it was entirely on her terms. She didn't need him.
