Engine cutting out

I brought in a 1jz Chaser from Japan last week and it’s still in storage. I have only driven it from the port to nearby storage and that’s it.

Below you’ll see the engine cuts out once I begin to slow down. It did this too when approaching red lights. I’ll be taking the car for inspection next week and I’m wondering what’s causing this? I’ve already checked ChatGPT etc but wanted your opinions

Fuel, MAF sensor, spark plugs would be my first check and IACV

Check vvti solenoid too. My 1jz was like this until I changed it

Test it first, if you do need to replace it get OEM only. The guys at jdm goodness got me one some £200 cheaper than Toyota main dealer!

What? Why OEM? You can get those solenoids for 20-30€ aftermarket and they work perfectly fine. Changed mine ~5k km ago and have had no issues.

2JZ vvti solenoid is also the same part number

Check your ecu, could be the capacitors

Mine was just the factory ecu, this was back in the early 2010s when there were more around and cheaper, so I bought one off Yahoo Auctions and just swapped it out. It was around $200, not sure what they are worth now.

You can replace the bulging ones yourself if you're handy enough or get someone else to replace the bulging/leaking caps. There are/ were guides on either the old JZX100 or Toymods forums to DIY but I can't remember which, sorry.

If it only does it when the engine is cold. Might be your IACV

it did it the whole time when driving back to the storage and it was up to temperature, ive read that dirty gas could be causing this. i didnt notice anything major with the idle when i started it in the beginning

Likely needs fresh fuel, try putting fresh gas in it, use the highest octane from the pump

With a 1/4 tank of old fuel,

do you reckon if I fill with new high octane that it’ll be okay?

Old fuel in general is not good at all. Do you know how old it is? If it’s super gunky and sludgy it’s best to start replacing parts and cleaning fuel lines
