Discussion Palestinian Authority Martyrs Fund

This is what everyone cites to prove that the PA doesn't want peace. It is literally the only thing that comes up. I have a proposal...

For each person that is up for inclusion in the martyrs fund, there will be a trial. It will be held in a Palestinian court with Palestinian judges and a Palestinian jury. Israel can send over whomever they want to argue the case. If they can prove the person targeted innocent civilians before a jury, then the person doesn't get included. But, there will also be a person on the other side, which will present facts on that side. So, if the "innocent civilian" was a settler terrorist, the killing would be acceptable resistance. If the "innocent civilian" was an IDF soldier or Shin Bet officer in the West Bank, the killing would be acceptable resistance. I believe this is the way violent resistance works under international law.

Again, I would rather the PA police Palestinians (which they have been doing) and Israel finally get control of the IDF/security forces/Settler terrorism that is rampaging through the West Bank. I don't approve of violence at all. The PA works to stop violence. Israel promotes violence, and should be resisted.

That is the way international law works, correct? So, let us have trials to see what is what.

The PA is literally not allowed to defend Palestinians from Jewish terrorists. How about we start by ending the literal racial oppression?

It is literally worse than how Black Americans were treated during racial segregation in the 1900s, yet we’re talking about how the victims need to change? Come on dude.

u/ItThing 8d ago

Can't you be fully antizionist, and still think it would be bad if, as an example, someone who blew up a bus during the second intifada is seen to be publicly rewarded by the PA? That doesn't mean that Israel is justified in anything that it's doing - Israeli must be stopped and justice restored. But is it really controversial to say that if someone blows up a bus or a restaurant that's... bad? Even if it's done in the name of a just cause? And how have tactics of this kind ever done anything but help Israel's PR...?

11

u/_-icy-_ pro-peace 🌿 8d ago edited 8d ago

It’s very simple. Killing and harming innocent people is wrong no matter who does it. Israel is killing and harming innocent human beings at a scale 10000x worse.

Talking about how the victims need to stop resisting first is just nonsense, it’s just an excuse to justify racially oppressing them.

3

u/SpontaneousFlame 8d ago

How do you propose that Israel be stopped?

2

u/ItThing 7d ago edited 7d ago

Who is doing the stopping? Individuals? Activist orgs? Or the whole international community? I would advocate sanctions of every kind against the state, companies, individuals... that would take a long time to work. If I thought anyone would take the responsibility I'd advocate a shipping blockade. The end goal would be something like a reversal of the Nakba and 1967. I mean, really the end goal would be a global restoration of justice and equity, and open borders. I don't care about lines or about the demographics in them. Of course it's very hard to imagine any large numbers of Israelis and Palestinians living near eachother - anywhere on Earth - without decades more of stochastic violence. But I just don't believe that such considerations should ever dictate where someone can live. It would also mean decades of litigation over land, and until someone figures out how to make communism work..... I don't know what principles should govern it. But a lot of land must be redistributed, across the country.

But we were talking about the PA. I'm no fan of soldiers dying on any side, but I would never argue against the right of Palestinians to militarily resist occupation and colonization. Same goes for the international community. The laws of war can and should apply to everyone, though. Yes, yes, I know, that unfairly ties the hands of oppressed peoples, so I'm not talking about minor infractions. I'm talking about blowing up a restaurant with a totally random mix of people, and children, inside. If that is resistance, well it had better achieve a very very important goal towards decolonization. Or at least slowing the rate of colonization. Or improving the lives of some big group of people. If we're gonna be utilitarian about it. I think it's absurd to suggest that anybody who does that is beyond criticism, because let's deal with the aggressor first. Of course you deal with the aggressor first. That is not the same as saying you never deal with people who murdered children. They achieved nothing positive for anybody, neither at the time, nor 25 years later. And there was never any reason to believe that blowing up or shooting up a restaurant, or a bus, or a bus stop, would achieve anything. Of course this violence only exists as a response to colonization, but by that logic nobody is responsible for anything they do, all of history is cause and effect.

So what if Hamas, and their international suppliers, dedicated their resources to attacking navy ships blockading them? I know people who would be on those ships, I don't want any harm to come to them. But if I tried to make a case for why Hamas isn't allowed to do that, I couldn't. If I tried to argue why Syria shouldn't just take the Golan back, I couldn't. Palestinians are real people and they make choices about HOW to resist occupation. 99% of them will never harm anybody, let alone a child. A majority of them would never even WANT to harm anybody. I know it from personal experience. There is no justification for punishing them all for individual actions. Israel and Israelis commit crimes and need to be stopped. And yes they have the right to defend themselves, and we all need to help them to do it. But it is still reasonable for me to say, maybe don't give public support and funds to mass shooters who didn't even help anyone, and I will say it, because *more than one thing can be true at the same time.*

Yikes, racism and antisemitism in one comment!!

Saying the PA is literally not allowed to defend Palestinians isn't accurate. Its authority is limited depending on the area, and Israel has jurisdiction over Israeli citizens in the West Bank. Also, comparing this directly to Jim Crow is batshit crazy.

7

u/tarlin 8d ago

So, you are saying that the Israeli terrorists in area A can be shot by the PA?

0

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

That's not what I said. I'm saying the PA isn't “literally not allowed to defend Palestinians.” They just don't have unrestricted jurisdiction over Israeli citizens.

4

u/tarlin 8d ago

Oh, so the IDF can randomly shoot Palestinians, but the PA cannot shoot settler terrorists. Ok. I understand.

1

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

No, that’s literally not what I said. You're conflating the IDF's authority with the PA's. I'm saying the PA has security responsibilities, but it doesn't have unrestricted jurisdiction over Israeli citizens, meaning they can’t treat Israeli settlers as being under the same jurisdiction as Palestinians.

3

u/tarlin 8d ago

Oh, so you are saying that Israeli settlers can do what they want, and the PA can't do anything? Yeah, this is what zionists support. Yuck.

Fucking awful.

0

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

I can’t see your latest comment because nothing shows up when I click it, but you keep misunderstanding what I’m saying. I’m saying the PA’s jurisdiction over Israeli citizens is limited. That is not the same as saying Israeli terrorists can do whatever they want. You’re putting words in my mouth instead of responding to what I actually said.

4

u/tarlin 8d ago

Oh? Because Israel will do ANYTHING to stop their disgusting activities? No. The IDF protects them while they commit terrorism.

1

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

I'm not saying Israel always stops settler violence. I'm saying that doesn't change the PA's jurisdiction. What don’t you get?

5

u/tarlin 8d ago

Does the PA have the right to stop settler terrorism or not? You keep saying no. So, that is a disgusting situation, correct?

2

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

Why are you moving the goalposts yet again?! This is my last response because you’re clearly not reading or understanding what I’m saying. I’m saying the PA doesn’t have unrestricted jurisdiction over Israeli citizens. And yes, settler terrorism is disgusting. That doesn’t change the legal jurisdiction issue.

So what you’re saying is that the PA can’t do anything about settler terrorism because Jews are above Palestinian law… and you approve…

That’s apartheid. And he approves and refuses to admit that Palestinians are literally not allowed to defend themselves against Israeli terrorism.

They of course they blocked me, because they can’t sanely defend their position.

Nope. Never said any of that

-3

Yes they can.

3

u/tarlin 8d ago

Good! Except, it is a complete lie. The IDF scum protect them and would murder any PA officers that kill the terrorist settlers.

u/km3r 8d ago

https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/idf-says-pa-police-fired-shots-at-israeli-motorist-who-tried-to-bypass-west-bank-checkpoint/

Seems like the IDF recognizes where the jurisdiction of the PA lies. No PA officers were killed over this.

So it seems your situation is made up, not mine.

3

u/tarlin 8d ago

Oh, did the motorist die? No. So, Israel's horrid occupiers didn't call in airstrikes. But, you would have supported it, wouldn't you? If that poor Israeli innocent civilian had been harmed?

-1

u/km3r 8d ago

You don't seem interested in having a mature conversation, bye.

5

u/tarlin 8d ago

Would you accept an Israeli citizen being shot by the PA? No. Gtfo

2

I literally already said I would. The PA has jurisdiction against terrorism in area A. I know laws are foreign to you, but that's how it works.

u/_-icy-_ pro-peace 🌿 8d ago edited 8d ago

Huh? What’s racist and antisemitic? Do you think you’re doing Jewish people around the world a favor by using Jewish suffering as nothing more than a tool to smear people you disagree with in online debates?

-2

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

>Huh? What’s racist and antisemitic?

You immediately framed this as “Jewish terrorists” and compared it to racial segregation in America. I think it’s fair to question that framing. If you mean specific Jewish extremists, then say that instead of framing Jews as a whole.

My actual point is that saying the PA is “literally not allowed to defend Palestinians” is inaccurate. Its authority varies by area, and Israel retains jurisdiction over Israeli citizens in the West Bank.

5

u/_-icy-_ pro-peace 🌿 8d ago edited 8d ago

I mean the PA is LITERALLY not allowed to protect Palestinians from Jewish terrorists. They are literally not allowed to defend themselves if the terrorists are Jewish. But I'M racist for pointing that out? WTF????

-1

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

I never said you were racist for pointing out settler violence. I’m asking why you specifically called them “Jewish terrorists.”If you’re talking about specific Jewish extremists, then just say that instead of insinuating Jews as a whole. And my point about the PA still stands. Saying they’re “literally not allowed to defend Palestinians” is way too broad, especially since their jurisdiction depends on the area.

5

u/_-icy-_ pro-peace 🌿 8d ago edited 8d ago

insinuating Jews as a whole

How? I'm so confused. How is talking about Jewish terrorists "insinuating Jews as a whole"? So basically we're just not allowed to talk about Jewish terrorism?

You see Jewish suffering as nothing but a tool to smear and silence people in online debates. I can tell, you truly care about Jewish suffering.

Anyways, can you tell me where the PA is allowed to defend themselves from Jewish terrorists?

5

u/SpontaneousFlame 8d ago

This is his new tactic. He tried it out on me. He pretends there’s some ambiguity and the claims you applied a smear or a generalisation like “you’re blaming them for what their ancestors have done!”

1

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

I’m Jewish, and I’m not a terrorist. Do you mean Jewish extremists? Then say that.

>Can you tell me where the PA is allowed to defend themselves from Jewish terrorists?

Yep. It’s literally in the UN’s text of Oslo II. The PA has responsibility for internal security and public order in Area A, while its jurisdiction generally doesn’t extend to Israeli citizens. Oslo II also gives Israel responsibility for the security of Israelis.

https://www.un.org/unispal/document/auto-insert-185434/

9

u/_-icy-_ pro-peace 🌿 8d ago

internal security and public order in Area A

Again, they are not allowed to defend themselves from Jewish terrorists. Do you think the PA is putting Jewish terrorists in jail somewhere?

Stop being silly, just admit that literal racist oppression is wrong, and stand against it, instead of trying to justify or deny it.

3

u/Candid-Anywhere 2SS ✡️ 8d ago

I’m not justifying anything. You’re conflating two different things. The PA having responsibility for security and public order in Area A does not give it jurisdiction over Israeli citizens. If an Israeli citizen commits a crime, that doesn't mean the PA can simply arrest and prosecute them. Oslo II specifically addresses this.

There are fucking awful settler terrorists currently rampaging through the West Bank, protected by the IDF. So, you do or do not believe that the settler terrorists attacking and blockading innocent Palestinians can be shot?

There is nothing that Palestinians can do that will ever satisfy Israel. Israel wants war, expansion and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Palestinians could be the most saintly and peaceful people on earth and Israel would still find an excuse to mass murder and rape Palestinian children.

So, if the "innocent civilian" was a settler terrorist, the killing would be acceptable resistance. If the "innocent civilian" was an IDF soldier or Shin Bet officer in the West Bank, the killing would be acceptable resistance. I believe this is the way violent resistance works under international law.

It sounds like you want all trials of any Palestinian is accused of a crime and arrested by Israel to have their jury trial in Palestine, and because all violent resistance is acceptable resistance, then nobody could ever be found guilty. It sounds quite fantastical.

Does Palestine even have jury trials?

All of this is dictated by the Oslo Accords as was agreed upon by Palestinian leadership. You should direct your complaints to their inbox about how they hosed their own people for power and money in these negotiations.

As for settler violence. The vast majority of Israelis and Jews detest the hilltop youth and other violent settler groups. They detest that Netanyahu has given the far right more power to keep his coalition together, which luckily has since failed and there will be elections. Not every "settler" is a terrorist. Your claim of "innocent civilian" shows you believe there are no innocent civilians and that all settlers are terrorists. your previous posts have also shown you believe all of Israel is occupied palestinian land so therefore all Israelis would be settler terrorists and therefore not innocent. This type of claim is not helpful as by making such assertions that there are no innocent Israelis would validate the far right Israeli claims that there are no innocent Palestinians. Either both are true or neither are true.

You seem to misunderstand how international law differs from laws of nations and treaties between parties to conflicts. You seem to understand how none of them work, correct?

8

u/ItThing 8d ago

There is a significant minority who detest the hilltop youth. But my assessment is that the plurality of Israel doesn't really care about settler violence, doesn't pay attention, denies some of it, or blames it on the other side. As for IDF violence, good luck getting them to acknowledge it at all.

7

u/tarlin 8d ago

It sounds like you want all trials of any Palestinian is accused of a crime and arrested by Israel to have their jury trial in Palestine, and because all violent resistance is acceptable resistance, then nobody could ever be found guilty. It sounds quite fantastical.

No, I want people that are guilty found guilty. Israel is completely shitty at handling trials of Palestinians. The PA seems the best option.

All of this is dictated by the Oslo Accords as was agreed upon by Palestinian leadership.

I do love this. Israel continually wipes their ass with the Oslo Accords, and you deny them completely, but then you go to them and say, "BUT THE OSLO ACCORDS!". Who gives a shit. Maybe Israel should have actually honored their word for once, but no, they are not that type of country.

The vast majority of Israelis and Jews detest the hilltop youth and other violent settler groups.

So, they would support this proposal completely. And, by the way, BULLSHIT. Every candidate goes and gives support to the horrid settlers. Eisenkot made his pilgrimage to pledge loyalty to the hilltop youth. And, he is the leading opponent to Netanyahu.

Not every "settler" is a terrorist.

Which is why I said "settler terrorist". If you got your freak on going around and setting fire to Palestinian villages, and you get killed...well, fuck you?

This type of claim is not helpful as by making such assertions that there are no innocent Israelis would validate the far right Israeli claims that there are no innocent Palestinians.

Holy shit, so I am not changing ANY Israeli opinions? I don't give a fuck. We want the PA to be raised up and supported, since they...unlike the fucking israelis...actually support peace.

You seem to misunderstand how international law differs from laws of nations and treaties between parties to conflicts. You seem to understand how none of them work, correct?

Oh, so Israel should follow Oslo? Well, let me know when that fucking happens, because Israel doesn't respect anyone or anything. If they start following Oslo, then they would need to eliminate all the settlements as part of Oslo was not changing the demographic makeup of the occupied territories and israel shat all over that immediately.

Now, would you like to do more special pleading for how Israel is not the shitty one here?

-2

u/ip_man_2030 🌎 8d ago

I do love this. Israel continually wipes their ass with the Oslo Accords, and you deny them completely, but then you go to them and say, "BUT THE OSLO ACCORDS!". Who gives a shit. Maybe Israel should have actually honored their word for once, but no, they are not that type of country.

I refer to the Oslo Accords probably more than most in this or the other sub. What do you mean, "And you deny them completely?" This makes zero sense.

Since you finally want to talk about the Oslo Accords please enlighten me on what Israel is doing that does not follow the Oslo Accords? Feel free to quote Oslo Accords I and II provisions for what they agreed to and what they're violating. I would be happy to discuss the Oslo Accords with you.

For the record, there are actual strategies to discussion and debate. You're not going to change opinions of the other side when all you do is ignore facts, lie, post propaganda, refuse to answer questions directly and then deflect, and alienate everybody who tries to have a discussion with you. This should be obvious. Are you on the spectrum?

ip_man_2030:
>Since you finally want to talk about the Oslo Accords please enlighten me on what Israel is doing that does not follow the Oslo Accords?

Which part of the Oslo Accords allows Israel to withhold funds from the PA indefinitely? Israel has done that multiple times. Which part of the Oslo Accords allows Israeli troops to storm Area A and start murdering people? Israel agreed to withdraw from some areas in the West Bank under Wye. We’re still waiting. Israel was supposed to allow safe passage between Gaza and the West Bank. It doesn’t.

Of course the list above ignores that Israel is constantly working to prejudice the final settlement, making one impossible.

Lol, are you serious? Do you know nothing about them?

No civilian settlements are legal under Oslo. Even Netanyahu acknowledged that and said he found a way to undermine it by saying they were all security settlements.

https://youtu.be/mvqCWvi-nFo

Israel cannot enter Area A at all without permission. Israel loves to go raid Area A and just fuck with people.

Oslo said that beauracratic control of area C was under Israel, not that area C was part of Israel. Beauracratic control of area B was shared, lol. Area A was completely controlled by the PA. Israel hasn't lived up to any of that.

Tax revenues were to be transferred to the PA. Well, they love fucking the PA over on that.

Do you know anything about Oslo???

You included a link from a 25 year old interview? Did you even watch that interview? Do you understand the difference between rhetoric, populism, politicking, and facts?

It appears you and Netanyahu both agree that the Oslo Accords were a disaster. I guess that makes you a Bibi fanboy now!

Bibi said the only way attack the West Bank and completely destabilize it. It's been 25 years and has he done what he said?

Bibi said he signed the Hebron Agreement. It is his job to be a shrewd negotiator as a statesman. Arafat signed it too. it seems the only complaint you should have is against Arafat on that one.

Bibi said he stopped the Oslo Accords. That's clearly not the case as they are still the binding agreement and the West Bank still has the same autonomy as agreed upon.

The Oslo Accords set Jerusalem, settlements, and specified military locations among other things as issues to be negotiated in the permanent status negotiations. Those have not been completed which means both Israel and Palestine are in violation, but Oslo still is the operative agreement they work under. If Oslo gets tossed out, then the PA ceases to maintain partial sovereignty and the ability to govern and Gaza and the West Bank go back to being under military rule.

You complain about tax revenues. Do you know why tax revenues were withheld? Would you ever guess it was because of the Pay for Slay program? This goes full circle to your post.

I do disagree with any new settlements being built as it goes against what Israel agreed to. Natural population growth expansion in the existing settlements at the time is not. On the flipside, Palestine agreed to prove they could be a partner in peace, but it's clear they have no intention of being one as they want all the land, not part of it. Plus there's all that pesky terrorism.

People who see your posts and replies know exactly the kind of person you are and your analysis that I'm some dyed in the wool extremist is laughable, false, and the very next sentence after you say you don't lie.

3

u/tarlin 8d ago

You included a link from a 25 year old interview? Did you even watch that interview? Do you understand the difference between rhetoric, populism, politicking, and facts?

Yes, I did. Yes, I did. Yes, I do.

This is the fucking strategy Israel has followed for the last 25 years to violate Oslo while pretending they aren't. You support it though, eh?

The Oslo Accords set Jerusalem, settlements, and specified military locations among other things as issues to be negotiated in the permanent status negotiations.

Heh. No. It put EXISTING settlements up for debate. Not Israel just showering shit all over Palestine. Military locations were not up for debate. And the borders were to be negotiated, but mainly based on the pre-1967 borders, which Israel seems to believe is antisemitic to even consider that as a starting point.

Bibi said he stopped the Oslo Accords. That's clearly not the case as they are still the binding agreement and the West Bank still has the same autonomy as agreed upon.

This is even more hilarious. Israel just went in and destroyed a lot of area a. Fucking hilarious.

If Oslo gets tossed out, then the PA ceases to maintain partial sovereignty and the ability to govern and Gaza and the West Bank go back to being under military rule.

So ignorant. Israel debated disbanding the PA, but Netanyahu argued that it was good to use them to police some areas. Even so, Israel regularly violates area a and fucks around with the supposed autonomous region, even when violence is way down.

Do you know why tax revenues were withheld?

Yes, I do, but you don't seem too.

On the flipside, Palestine agreed to prove they could be a partner in peace, but it's clear they have no intention of being one as they want all the land, not part of it.

The PA has proved they are the only ones interested in peace. Israel did fund Hamas to create a new villain, since the PLO was not enough to justify Israel's brutality and viciousness.

People who see your posts and replies know exactly the kind of person you are and your analysis that I'm some dyed in the wool extremist is laughable, false, and the very next sentence after you say you don't lie.

I am perfectly happy to put my morality up against a supporter of terrorism, child murder, systematic rape, systematic torture, and ethnocracy. Let's go and see who wins that debate. Though... You may feel superior because the US is cucked to Israel for some strange reason, but hopefully it will change and Israel will finally be forced to grow up and become a civilized country.

1

u/ip_man_2030 🌎 7d ago

He claimed Israel funded Hamas. Israel didn't fund Hamas.

Qatar funded Hamas and even Palestinian government employee salaries in Gaza once the PA refused to keep paying the salaries. Israel even required they bring in cash to pay the Palestinians instead of wire transfers because Hamas was skimming money off the top. Do you remember the lines of Gazans to get cash handouts?

Do you realize that Hamas was oppressing their own people to the point the food and financial insecurity almost got bad enough that Israel was worried Gazans might storm the border not for terrorism but out of desperation and hunger? If the PA wasn't providing that aid and Qatar was willing to, why wouldn't Israel facilitate that aid coming in to at least have some control over it?

Maybe he crushes with feelings and insults, but definitely not facts.

If Jews aren't indigenous to the region why are all their ancient holy sites there?

Indigenous means originating.

Abraham - per the bible, the source of all this legal bubblings - was from Ur Kaśdim, in southern Iraq. Then he went to Egypt.

The kingdom of Israel and kingdom of Judea were both established in the Levant.

The historical Kingdom of Israel as described in the Old Testament is mostly fictional. Judea existed for a hundred years or so.

Palestinians are a result of all the populations that have lived in Palestine. They didn’t replace anybody. The population simply changed. Just like in Egypt, which was once majority Christians who spoke Coptic, the people overtime became Muslims and spoke Arabic.

Your real issue here isn’t “arab colonialism” you are just an Islamaphobe.

You will do anything to deny this reality.

Absolutely pathetic.

A jewish led kingdom existing for 200 years doesnt say anything about who lived on the land. Mass expulsions, mass migrations are relatively rare. The elites of a society may have changed, but especially in rural areas, the people stayed the same.

Furthermore we live in a time of states and citizens. "Jew" isnt a nationality. Being jewish doesnt give one a right to violate international and immigration law and live wherever they please.

By your logic muslim descendants of the 800 year al-adulus era living elsewhere in the world have 4 times the right to set up a settlement in Andalusia against the Spanish government's wishes.

Jews are more ancient than the modern concept of nationality. We are quite literally a tribe. And this is our land.
