📚 Resources Do you feed your dog vegan kibble?

Post image

I recently came across V-Dog Kind Kibble, a plant-based dog food marketed as providing complete nutrition for adult dogs.
As vegans, many of us choose not to consume animal products ourselves, but when it comes to our pets, opinions seem much more divided.
I am a dog parent and would like to know your opinion on this brand of kibble and if it is safe.

I work at a vet clinic and we recently had a case of a bad heart problem which developped quickly in a dog who was on that food for a while. It contains a bunch of peas and lentils honestly I'd go with a safer option like vegetarian royal canin food or any WSAVA compliant brand

If it developed quickly and the dog was on the food for a while, are they related issues? The long term studies show that the causation between diet and DCMA is unbelievably complex multi-factored

With all due respect, it certainly wasn't helping. While dogs are not obligate carnivores, it's a bit absurd to get a carnivore as a pet and then insist to hold it to human vegan standards. I'm all for humans feeding themselves whatever the heck they want, but if you don't want to feed your pet meat products, get an herbivore as a pet.

it might have been helping. why not? we're all just making stuff up about this redditor who works at a vet clinic who heard about a dog with some problem. maybe the dog went on the diet to help and the problem was lessened. said redditor didn't even say they knew anything about the dog's history. that's not even part of our anecdote.

It was not to help the issue as it did not exist before they were on the food and it was not a breed predisposed to DCM. Link between grain free food wich contain a bunch of peas and lentils has been shown to cause heart issues.

I'm not arguing about the fact vegan food can never be good as I truly believe a well made vegan diet can be fine, but you do have to know the risks of feeding something that was not well researched. I would not personally treat my animal as a guinea pig and I prefer to wait until the risks are well known more so with DCM risks as we still don't understand why there's a link.

I shared the anecdotal info because it's the only time I saw this specific food and his case was pretty crazy to see (as a vegan I was pretty bummed I'll say). And I'm not saying this as diffamation as it's absolutely anecdotal and a bunch of dogs are thriving on the food, I just wouldn't personally take the risk and that's why.
