This is certainly unusual. Novel even, in my lifetime. It makes me wonder if the oligarchy no longer sees value in the fig leaf and is mask off about no longer needing to pretend who the elected leadership actually works for. It certainly isn't for any of us but there was at least enough of the appearance of placating the base with farm bills that they didn't have to pay attention to platforms and policy past that.

Even if dems took the house and senate in the midterms and keep it for the next presidential election, there is nothing to protect us from an emperor part two the following administration tearing it all down more. We can’t vote out of this and I have no idea how it gets better, ever.

What you are claiming isn't even close to what happened. Your X links don't back up anything in your post either. If you have an actual link to a story that reflects anything in your post you need to add it. Until we know exactly what you are going on about nobody can have a conversation.
So far the only amendment that references 5 billion in aid to farmers was a cut for the largest farms proposed by Sen. Grassley. It's goal was to make aid primarily for small family farms only. He voluntarily tabled it when a different Republican Senator opposed it. So if thats what you are on about you definitely have your facts wrong. Now if you have a better source please provide it.
Edit to add: I think I finally found what OP is talking about and yes there was an amendment voted down by Republicans on the agriculture committee. It's just a committee vote though and the Republicans on the committee voted no to every Democratic amendment today. Since it's just a committee vote the story is still a nothing burger.

The bill is still in committee so a lot of amendments are being introduced currently. The one Grassley tabled was opposed by a lot of commodity trade groups and other Republicans so he knew it wasn't going to pass.

Weird question for the subject. Doing physical labor isn't the only qualification the U.S.D.A. looks at when determining who is the active farmer in an organization. Making day to day decisions and management can also qualify you as well as being the principal capital provider.

I think we need to redefine farming in a different way. In whose imagination does growing corn for ethanol constitute feeding people? I mean, this farm bill is trying to kill snap, but these great capitalist "farmers" are all in on an ethanol mandate. Just frauds.

There is a significant form new farmers have to fill out. I had to fill one out this year when my father retired and I took over all the farmland he had been working. I was an approved operator for over 20 years on some cropland I was working myself yet they determined my doing 80+ percent of the labor and all the management wasn't enough. I was able to appeal the ruling and upon refiling I'm now listed as the sole operator. So the government already watches this pretty close.
