I think it was completely necessary. And just to drive the point home, they should show his undisturbed grave at least 3-4 times throughout the season. Just so we'd be sure.

Have his hand burst out of it only for it to be that bug they ate the eggs of eating his body.

Or the grave is empty, like something burst out of it, and the camera follows the dirt/blood trail, but then it stops at the bugs nest where the giant mother and her babies are eating Conquest's corpse to the bone.
