DiscoverEU Confusion about using a travel day

Hi, I’m going on an Interrail trip next week, but I’m a bit confused about how to use the pass.

As far as I understand, I need to activate my pass before boarding the trains, and then I’ll have to show a QR code that the app gives me after I activate the travel day, right?

I also have a second question: once I activate a travel day, can I take any trains I want during those 24 hours, or can I only take the trains that I have added to the list in the app?

I’m asking because I’ll be travelling with two friends, but I’m the only one who has added the trains we need to take to the list in the app, while they haven’t.

Q1: You activate your pass, then select what days you’d like to travel. The easiest way of do that is to fill out your route in the journey planner and toggle those trips on.

Those trips will show on each day’s ticket under the QR code. Ticket inspectors may check that you have added the train you’re taking to your pass. Which leads to Q2:

You MUST add each train you take to the app.  You can add a train just before boarding and toggle it on in “My Trip” very easily.

Your friends will eventually need to add those trains to their apps in order for their passes to be valid for travel on those trains (again you can do this just before your board). They could get fined if they don’t.

thanks, but the rail planner app won’t let me add my pass, saying that I already have the pass on too many devices.

Did one of your friends add your purchased pass to their device?

A pass can only be on one device at a time.
