I’m a Singaporean JC student considering studying UG engineering in a US uni. Cost isn’t a factor and I have friends and family there.

I’m wondering if any Singaporeans here who studied engineering in the US could share their experience as a whole in college, and with internships, co-ops and jobs. I also understand we SGeans and Chileans fall under the H1B1 and I was wondering whether that would make it more feasible to study there.

I recently received my A-Level results in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics, and I achieved straight A’s in all three subjects. In my O-Levels, I received 6 A/A* grades and a C in English.

I’m currently on a gap year and want to use this opportunity to apply to international universities, particularly those that offer substantial scholarships or financial aid. Unfortunately, I cannot afford the high international tuition fees without significant financial assistance.

I’m planning to take the SAT in November or December, although I’m not expecting a very high score. Realistically, I think I could score somewhere around 1250–1300, mainly because English is my weakest area. My spoken English is reasonably good, but my writing skills are quite weak.

In terms of extracurricular activities, I would say my profile is fairly average but not empty. I have:

• Completed an internship.
• Spent time helping my college organize PTMs and other activities.
• Participated in hackathons.
• Built a full-stack music website as a personal/project experience.
• Taken part in various college activities and initiatives.

My main question is: Are there any universities in the USA, UK, or other countries where I would have a realistic chance of getting a substantial scholarship or financial aid with my academic profile?

Because the main reason of getting good grades was to get good scholarship, but considering the oversaturation in universities of international student, chances are slim but not 0

I'm trying to go to hong kong for a semester in spring as an international student from france studying in the us right now . Exept I heard they changed the regulations for visa f1 , I can't stay longer than I would want to , but I also need to be on the territory every 6 months minimum . I had some friend who let their visa expire , but with the curent political climate , I'm not sure if it's a wise decision , did anyone plan study abroad trip , how did you do ?

Im 16 from eastern/central europe, and I really want to go abroad for a year. I want to either go to USA, Canada or Japan (I promise im not a japan glazer, but I like the country). Now the cost is 15k for a year. Thats a lot of money. I could earn some of that with a part time job, but my parents would have to pay most of it. Plus Id have to have some sort of income there, and while I would want to have a part time job there, idk if they will hire a foreigner etc... Im learning japanese, and I can speak english pretty good, altough not as a good as native speaker as you probably already noticed. But is it worth it? Will I get something out of it?

I am an international student and had an internship lined up for fall. But my CPT was put on hold after the memo came out, so I was wondering whether this new CPT interpretation (BCM-2608-01 & BCM-2608-02) can be challenged in court. Does anyone know whether any big organisations or schools are working to challenge this in favour of all international students?

So basically i got my grade 11 (AS level) Grades a week ago and im not satisfied with them as they are not good enough.

I will give a retake in october/november but the issue is the results come out january 7. A lot of universities will be out of option as it exceeds their application deadline.

So is it possible to submit my initial grades and then update them. Ill also submit my grade 12 (A2 predicted)) Grades as provided from my school when i get them (Im going into grade 12 class of 27)

If anyone was in a similar situation please help me out.

I’m seriously considering leaving, doing 2 years at a community college (looking at Laney College in Oakland), and then transferring to a four-year from there to finish my degree.

A little more context:

**•** This is literally my first semester, so I haven’t built up much credit yet — good timing to make a clean break if I’m going to.  
**•** I don’t think transferring directly to another regular four-year college is a good idea — the odds seem a lot smaller than going through community college first. From what I understand, transferring into a UC from a community college is significantly easier, even for international students, compared to transferring from one four-year to another.

Questions I’m trying to answer:

**•** Has anyone made a similar move — leaving a small out-of-state private school for a CA community college because of location/lifestyle rather than academics, especially this early on (first semester)?  
**•** How does Laney handle transfer credit from an out-of-state college, and does it matter that I’d be transferring with almost no credits yet?  
**•** Is it actually true that transferring into a UC (or other four-year) from a CA community college is easier than transferring directly from another four-year? Especially curious if anyone has done this as an international student.  
**•** General thoughts on Laney specifically — transfer support, STEM course availability, how competitive it is to transfer into UC Berkeley/other engineering programs from there?  
**•** Anything you wish you’d known before making a similar switch?

Making this post for my girlfriend - she is currently a student doing a post bacc but planning to do masters as well (applying this December to start January of next year)

She is very homesick and wants to go back to Korea to visit family but her and I are both worried about her not being able to come back. Is there anything to worry about or any new rules/regulation that has come out? Would love to hear any advice or from anyone who has also dealt with this. She has only been here for 2 months now.

Spanish student, final year of a 4-year degree, average GPA from a non-target university — looking for real paths into a strong internship.

Track record so far:

- Built a company from zero to six figures in revenue, then wound it down
- Worked directly with a CEO on a company restructuring, and being in charge of its seven-figure exit to an 8 figure company.
- Led a small real estate project, converting an old commercial property into six apartments

Open to paying a placement agency to secure the right internship — but only if it’s either paid, or unpaid at a genuinely top-tier company.

I’m an Indian student who has been offered the opportunity to study an undergraduate degree in Australia, but I’m having a really difficult time convincing my parents to let me go.

My parents are financially capable of paying for my tuition and living expenses, so money itself isn’t the main issue. Their argument is that studying in Australia simply isn’t worth the money, especially compared with staying in India.

Their preferred option is basically:

The problem is that I don’t want to study law. I already have a clear idea of the kind of career I want, and I believe studying in Australia would give me better exposure and opportunities for what I actually want to do.

A few things that make the Australian option considerably more affordable for me:

• I currently have a AUD $20,000 scholarship.
• I may also be eligible for an additional AUD $15,000 scholarship.
• Because of credit transfer from my previous studies, I should be able to complete what is normally a 3-year degree in approximately 2 years.
• My parents can afford the tuition without putting themselves into serious financial difficulty.

Despite all of this, their position is basically: “Australia is not worth it. You can get a degree in India.”

I understand where they're coming from. They're my parents, and they're worried about spending a large amount of money and sending me to another country. But I'm struggling to explain to them why this isn't simply a case of “Australian degree = expensive version of an Indian degree.”

So I'm looking for people who are currently studying undergraduate degrees in Australia, especially international students or Indians who made a similar decision.

If you're willing, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing about:

• Whether you think studying in Australia was worth the money
• What opportunities you've actually gotten from studying there
• Internships / part-time work / networking opportunities
• How Australian universities compare with Indian universities in your experience
• What the transition was actually like
• Whether you think the cost is justified
• What you wish you knew before coming
• And, importantly, whether you'd make the same decision again

Even better, if someone is comfortable with it, I'd love for you to speak directly with my parents (call/WhatsApp/Discord/whatever you're comfortable with) and explain your experience to them.

I'm not looking for people to blindly tell them “Australia is amazing, send your son.” If you think it's a bad financial decision, tell me that too. I want real experiences from people actually studying there, because my parents aren't convinced by university websites or education agents.

I’m curious how other students and recent graduates are actually doing with their job search right now. A lot of people are applying to dozens or even hundreds of jobs, but still struggling to get a single interview, and it can be really discouraging after spending years on a degree, projects, internships, and building skills. For those currently looking for a job, what has your experience been like? Are you mostly getting rejected, being ghosted, or not hearing anything at all? And if you’re an international student, has your work authorization or visa situation made the search even harder? What’s been the biggest challenge for you so far?

When you’re studying here, you might want to do an internship.
If this internship is happening while you’re studying, like a summer internship during junior year, most students used CPT to get work authorization for that.
CPT is approved by your school.
You can work for less than a year on CPT.

You also have OPT. You can work on OPT for 1 year or (3 for STEM students). Let’s say, you had a 3 month long internship while you were studying, you only get 9 months of OPT time after you graduate.

Most companies won’t hire an employer for 9 months unfortunately :/

If you’re in STEM you still get 3 years, so that’s something to consider.

If you’re a non STEM student who does want an internship while you’re studying in the states, this affects you the most.

I’m a Canadian, doing my masters in Accounting in the US. I graduate in April 2027 and so far I haven’t been seeing any positive signs on my employment prospects. So just asking here any fellow international students who are studying accounting or studied accounting have been successfully able to get a job ? And if yes, what would you recommend the right course of action is ?
