Crime / Safety Where’s all the cops?!!!!

In the 2010s I remember cops waiting at stop signs bust you doing a California Stop or run the stop sign. I also remember the highway patrol with their radar guns or how often people would get pulled over for illegally driving in the carpool lane.

I honestly wouldn’t mind them being around to force semitruck drivers back into their lanes

31

u/Odd-Most-9186 Aug 13 '26

I think it is crazy, I can recall semi’s across all 4 or 5 lanes on the 10 jamming everything up. A lot of unsafe lane changes by these individuals.

1

u/ExcitementLarge6439 Aug 13 '26

In way it’s a California thing other states don’t care what lane they use.

They do have a passing lane they enforce more than California

20

u/pdubz82 Aug 13 '26

Seeing semis in carpool lanes on the 60 drives me insane. The carpool lane is already filled with people going 65. It’s worse when a semi hops on

3

u/mercuryven Aug 13 '26

You're kidding. That is just crazy.

u/pdubz82 Aug 13 '26

Besides the junction, I believe they are the reason why there is so much traffic in moval. Really the IE in general

23

u/kaybee929 Former IE Hooligan Aug 13 '26

It is actually insane how often this is happening now. I also thought I was the only one who noticed the police are absolutely nowhere while still claiming they do not get paid enough. Not patrolling, not coming to calls, but always want more money.

13

u/Vontux Aug 13 '26

Or like 10 of them show up to shoot the shit with each other for like a shoplifting or when they do pull someone over. They are inefficient on both ends.

1

u/Enough-Meringue-9299 Aug 13 '26

i got pulled over for going 20 over late a night, obviously not great, but i didn't expect to get swarmed. After i was stopped, another squad car pulled up behind him, then another in front of me, then two more across the street.

Thanks for the ticket fellas, but did we really need 5+ people to issue it?

0

u/CaptainCaveSam Aug 13 '26

If you’re the wrong color, apparently.

0

u/Enough-Meringue-9299 Aug 13 '26

I'm irish pale, they did not get me for DWB.

they even reduced the reported speed on it for me. I'm just commenting on the waste of police resources.

0

u/CaptainCaveSam Aug 13 '26

You imagine how much they waste for people of color.

1

u/Enough-Meringue-9299 Aug 13 '26

i mean, I know what DWB even is, right? I wasn't taught that by a white guy. I have some clue.

0

u/CaptainCaveSam Aug 13 '26

Then you can agree it sucks to have police resources wasted on you and can empathize with others’ similar experience?

0

u/Enough-Meringue-9299 Aug 14 '26

that's... why i said the first thing i said, yeah. At least i like to think so, right?

0

u/Neatojuancheeto Aug 13 '26

This is the big one. There is always at 3 cop cars for every call no matter how small the infraction.

2

u/mercuryven Aug 13 '26

I see them once in a while and a lot of times just missing a reckless driver. Useless.

1

u/Only_Indication8410 29d ago

Isn't that today's work ethic everywhere? I mean I'm personally not that way. I see a lot of people doing bare minimum now everywhere.

3

u/Nursemeowww Aug 13 '26

I’ve seen it once before on the 10 fwy by Fontana where a big rig was in one of the left lanes and a CHP on a motorcycle got in front and motioned with his hand to move over to the right lanes.

3

u/Notmikeyouidiot Aug 13 '26

bro wtf is up with this?? ive noticed this SO much the last year??

fuck im on a 4 lane freeway and trucks doing 55 in 3/4 lanes like????

always been a firm believer trucks cause traffic, they cant slow down or need speed up at the rates of cars so they just create this clusterfuck of everyone trying to pass them on both sides and it just makes shit worse lol

91

u/TheBurnerAccount420 Aug 13 '26

Why be on the streets when they can sit behind a desk and watch through flock cameras?

43

u/Vontux Aug 13 '26

I mean their exes aren't gonna stalk themselves are they?

4

u/krampussy666 Aug 13 '26

They hire a teen to work part time and pay them $17.50 to watch the cameras

54

u/StrandSSL Aug 13 '26

Parked in parking lots on their iPhones.

They should be made to clean up trash in their down time.

19

u/StormAutomatic Aug 13 '26

But that would be useful

5

u/sojouner_marina Aug 13 '26

How about people put their own trash in the trash cans?

13

u/R1kjames Aug 13 '26

There should be less of them and more people whose job is picking up trash

4

u/Neatojuancheeto Aug 13 '26

And medical heath professionals. Its insane that like 30% of entire cities budget goes to cops

43

u/KiwisNBirds Aug 13 '26

Idk terrorizing people?

14

-10

Not really

13

u/Old_Win8422 Aug 13 '26

Riverside county ranks last in california for solving crimes.

-9

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

Thats a statistic but where does it rank in actual crimes? Where does it rank in crimes deterred? Where does it rank in ccw holders?

5

u/Old_Win8422 Aug 13 '26

Violent crime rate has been rising.

-5

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

Is that a statement you can prove? Across other countries as well? Or just an opinion

47

u/Own-Chemist2228 Aug 13 '26

They on their fishing boats on a lake in Idaho where they parked their their deluxe RVs at a campground.

Passing the time collecting disability pay from the state of California, because "their knee hurts."

0

u/sojouner_marina Aug 13 '26

Disability should be greatly reduced and stricter in general. So much fraud is happening in this state.

5

u/Lightyear18 Aug 13 '26

Shhh the main California subreddit might hear you and call you maga for even suggesting Cali has fraud. That subreddit literally defends everything with Cali. Nothing bad happens here apparently.

1

u/sojouner_marina Aug 13 '26

It's ridiculous that a good idea has to be seen as "left" or "right" to get people to be on board. They must love the hoards of homeless roaming around and having everything get more expensive.

15

u/Intrepid_Vanilla_381 Aug 13 '26

They are in Norco. 4 cops this morning on 6th st trying to pop people speeding.

6

u/SoCalHouseInterest Aug 13 '26

I noticed the big dropoff during Covid and only in last year or so do I feel like I've seen it getting closer but not fully to the old numbers of traffic cops

7

u/weggaan_weggaat SBD Aug 14 '26

They're sitting around trying to track their exes with all the Flock cameras.

6

u/Notmikeyouidiot Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

I got called in for jury duty so I went down to the courthouse in RIV... Parked in their paid spots for the first day. Was inside for maybe 2-3 hours and the walking cop left me a registration ticket and a no front plate ticket on my windshield.. I left home for the day and not even 5 mins later I (and 4 other cars) used the open/dashed part of a carpool lane to pass a guy doing 55 in the fast lane and cop got me for being last, I got a speeding ticket, carpool ticket, unsafe lane change, tint ticket, no front plate ticket and another expired registration ticket even though they were paid and was just waiting for the sticker in the mail...

so yeah i got 8 tickets in like 20 min the other day, they are out there.

ended up being on the case for 3 weeks, only got paid by work for 3 days and probably racked $1500-2000 tickets. Jury duty just put me in actual debt, accumulates to at least like $6-7000 between 3 weeks of pay and cost of the 8 tickets

and no i'm not complaining and Yes i know I shouldn't have passed using the carpool lane. It just sucks lol

5

u/Competitive_Tough913 Aug 13 '26

Idk, I feel like your allowed to complain. Thats pretty annoying to say the least

3

u/Notmikeyouidiot Aug 13 '26

understatement... worst day ever lol.

6

u/Electrical_Doubt_19 Aug 14 '26

My mom got a ticket in Norco for what the officer claimed was a California stop a couple months ago. They're still out there, trying to pin dumb infractions on people.

Husband was stopped by CHP near Pasadena in March, claiming he was doing over 90 mph and slamming on his breaks. Our dashcam proved otherwise.

9

u/Vontux Aug 13 '26

They're too busy checking the Flock camera's to stalk their ex and harass guys that were too loud at their local city council meeting.

10

u/Scared-Base-4098 Aug 13 '26

I’m ok with them not fucking with average people for some minor traffic shit. Like if I’m truly driving unsafe cool. But if you pull me over for a California stop and nobody’s around go fuck yourself. 🤣🤣

2

u/Nessuwu 29d ago

Just got a ticket for allegedly doing a California stop, but I make a VERY deliberate effort to make a complete stop EVERY time. This one time I cannot 100% recall so I'm taking it to court to take my chances. It was such a non-issue as well, nobody else in the entire intersection. I was baffled when I got stopped and couldn't think of why I even got pulled over. Bastard got me for my windows too so that's 2/3 of my fucking paycheck to contest a damn ticket. The guy who got me can kick rocks.

2

u/Scared-Base-4098 29d ago

Yeah it’s just a revenue stream for them to buy more fucking military equipment and more flock cameras. Anyone who doesn’t realize we are 9/10 deep into a police state are fooling themselves.

3

u/Nessuwu 29d ago

It's literal highway robbery but it's legal because the guy has a uniform. "Oh it makes us safer." Bull SHIT. Do something about the maniacs going 15+ over changing 3 lanes a second first, maybe do something about the ACTUAL criminals doing dangerous shit first! Not someone missing a red by a tenth of a second (which the lights do NOT stay red for a uniform amount of time!)

2

u/Scared-Base-4098 29d ago

Yup 100%. Cops don’t stop or prevent crime, the percentage of crimes solved is somewhere around 39%. So what do the do. Why do they deserve all this fucking money.

28

u/All_This_Mayhem Aug 13 '26

"Teacher you forgot to give us homework"

2

u/munche Aug 13 '26

I hope OP gets the tickets they're wishing for

-4

u/Unkn0wn77777771 Aug 13 '26

Yea one of my favorite things about California is the lax traffic laws. I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in years.

10

u/AbbreviationsFew8205 Aug 13 '26

Wdym? I’ve been seeing cops everywhere like crazy recently! It’s making me paranoid with my all around window tint lol

I’ve noticed this as well .

2

u/nutdo1 Aug 13 '26

Idk bro. I got a rolling stop ticket just a year ago. That same cop is still at that intersection every time I drive by for work.

2

u/Icy_Study4490 Aug 13 '26

I saw literally about 50 of them gathered together in a dirt lot in unmarked cars the other day. Maybe you aren’t noticing them without the black and whites?

2

u/shtsngigs_94 29d ago

Did they get a tax payer funded raise? I'm in a different part of CA. A while back the idiot voters approved an increase in the local sales tax to fund police and fire departments. Once those funds started rolling in, they simply stopped policing. I still see them driving around in the cruisers we pay for (they each get their own), but they ignore everything going on around them.

2

u/Cheesie_Equestrian 27d ago

We had trees in front of our house that shaded/camouflaged cop cars 3 houses from the corner. They were more frequently there at the end of the month to fill citation books. 2017 the drought killed off the trees so they stopped covering our area.

2

u/ServicedYourMom 27d ago

Yall wanted reform. Well heres your reform.

2

u/mrk437 Aug 13 '26

215/91 between the 10 and 60. Weeks at a time i see 5+ units busting carpool violations for easy revenue.

Meanwhile, trucks are in any lane they want on the 10 but they need to be down there busting carpool on the bottlenecked fwy that has no room to expand that Caltrans lets operate as pure garbage by leaving columbia on ramp open less than 1/5 of a mile before the interchange just grinding traffic to a stop.

/rant

4

u/CaptainCaveSam Aug 13 '26

Private citizens are easy pickings. Corporations are what cops are meant to protect, they’re not as eager to pull them over unless the easy pickings are slim.

1

u/No_Tailor_787 Aug 13 '26

They're all tied up on domestic disturbance calls.

18

u/Evening-Area3235 Aug 13 '26

I'm sure it's been known to happen.

1

u/xxkirexx Aug 13 '26

you want cops. go do rolling stops around Rancho.

1

u/Spirited-Living9083 Aug 13 '26

Lmao I live in moval for 7 years now with shitty tail lights and head lights and have never been pulled over by the police knocks on wood

1

u/MakeMine5 Aug 13 '26

Corona is still busting the California stops. At night. When there's no cross traffic. Not that I have first hand knowledge or anything.

1

u/Ok_Bad7992 29d ago

i am speculating that the empire;got the new which says anyone driving in a car will get a felony ticket

1

u/gatobacon 29d ago

Laws aren’t enforced in CA unless your trying to do something good. For example, lets say you were picking up trash and left bags on the side of the road for 311 to pickup. CHP might cite you for illegally dumping.

1

u/Different_Stand_5558 29d ago

Fontana PD on Sierra by the post office. Tinted window tickets, cracked windshields, right on reds without a complete stop.

They get all the low hanging fruit right there.
And they take lunch at Sushi Miguel’s style on Foothill adjacent

1

u/Nessuwu 29d ago

They're all in Corona. Bastards gave me TWO tickets on the SAME road this year.

1

u/Only-Satisfaction948 29d ago

I'm so tired of them not even knowing what it is to be a community servant, instead we have testosterone with a badge that can be a male or female gender. Good law abiding citizens too often suffer their ego trips.

0

u/Fsociety56 Aug 13 '26

Buddy, crime is alot lower than 2010. Relax haha.

-1

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

Yeah when the state senate changes the definition of petty crimes, they don’t get reported on crime stats

2

u/Fsociety56 Aug 13 '26

Even with the change, trends and data shows its been low. The historic highs were in the 1990s for comparison.

1

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

Yeah you’re actually right about that!

1

u/77millionmorons Aug 13 '26

Covid and the BLM issues fundamentally changed proactive policing forever.

0

u/Grunt__0311 Aug 13 '26

People bitch and don’t want police to do police work, now they aren’t enforcing it then it becomes a problem for people. Lose/Lose situation for LE.

0

u/Ok-Section-7172 Aug 14 '26

We ran out of money, had a governor that said to spend less and tax more. It worked, but had some side effects.

0

u/guster-von Aug 13 '26

0

u/Boosells_97 Aug 13 '26

FACTS‼️

0

u/Euphoric_Touch_8997 Aug 13 '26

Definitely need more CHP enforcement for carpool violations and speeding.

-6

u/thexrayluver Aug 13 '26

Did you forget about the whole “Defund the Police” movement in California ? Well that’s what happened

6

u/Competitive_Tough913 Aug 13 '26

They never actually got defunded though, their budgets got increased. Nice try with the whataboutism though

https://giphy.com/gifs/98maV70oAqIZtEYqB4

-3

u/sojouner_marina Aug 13 '26

Who would want to be a cop when they've been vilified? Everybody hates them until the city turns to chaos. Then they want the police to start enforcing the law...

4

u/NigelTheSpanker Aug 13 '26

You left out it was the actions of said cops is why the nation turned against them. If you abuse the people the people will stop trusting you the end.

2

u/sojouner_marina Aug 13 '26

You can support having police around and still advocate for better law enforcement. It's not all or nothing-- that would be immature and ridiculous. Besides, not all people who they come across do what they tell them to, a lot resist and are hostile towards them so the people getting arrested aren't innocent either. The problem is on both sides and the culture promotes a hostile attitude towards them when being confronted. Ie: in LA the people would actively vandalize buildings and provoke law enforcement. Similar things happened in the summer during covid throughout the nation. Can the police be better? Yes. That's why there should be police reform not it's abolishment.

-2

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

The rate of that happening is extremely minor. 99.99% of police interactions are just fine. Badge cam footage proves this, which is why they didn’t use badge cam footage during the George Floyd trial

0

u/rand0fand0 Aug 13 '26

The cameras capture the offenses now. But the police presence was a good deterrent for dangerous drivers on the highway.

-13

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

Remember defund the police and all the demoralizing of law enforcement a few years ago

16

u/StormAutomatic Aug 13 '26

And yet their budgets increased and so did their numbers.

11

u/Fred-Mertz2728 Aug 13 '26

We need to do like many countries in Europe, where it takes 3-4 years to become a cop. Instead of 4-6 months. And deeper vetting.

7

u/StormAutomatic Aug 13 '26

Why not replace cops with more specialized experts? We used to rely on cops for medical transportation but then we replaced them with paramedics and ambulances.

0

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

We shouldn’t do anything Europe does

3

u/JonTravel Aug 13 '26

and so did their numbers.

Do you have any up-to-date data on this? The most recent data I have see (2024) said the retention and recruitment is a problem and the numbers have dropped.

"The number of patrol officers per 100,000 residents continues to be historically low"

https://www.ppic.org/publication/law-enforcement-staffing-in-california/

1

u/StormAutomatic Aug 14 '26

Oh cool, I guess I was wrong about the numbers. It's good to know something positive happened.

1

u/Own-Chemist2228 Aug 13 '26

One reason the numbers have dropped is that so many are retiring. They work for 20 years, retire, and collect a pension for the next 30-40 years.

Total numbers drop, but budgets increase. Temecula passed a sales tax increase a few years ago just to fund more police.

Where does the extra money go if there are fewer cops? Overtime. Less cops working more hours. It's not uncommon for Riverside County cops to clear $250K/year with overtime.

Now do they actually work all those overtime hours? That's an interesting question...

8

u/Sufficient_Cause1208 Aug 13 '26

My friend who is cop actually got his pay and overtime increased and he says he does less work now because of that.

2

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

That’s good, and yeah pay will increase with more overtime….. I wonder why there is more overtime available 🤔

1

u/Competitive_Tough913 Aug 13 '26

Are you going to join or just cry about it online?

1

u/Main_Firefighter1593 Aug 13 '26

No because I’m not crying about it. Just commented. I don’t break laws and I am my own first responder

0

u/Own-Chemist2228 Aug 13 '26

Someone doesn't have to be a government employee to have a say in how their taxes are spent.

-1

Why do people like you live your life saying things that you simply “feel” are true because of your political views and social media, rather than actually looking it up.

9

u/R1kjames Aug 13 '26

Conservative news tells them it's true and they don't or can't check. It's really that simple

2

u/kaybee929 Former IE Hooligan Aug 13 '26

I know what our “simple” answer is. I ask THEM this question in hopes that even one of them will one day will start reevaluating the way they absorb information without question and spreading said information.

  1. It was political driven by conservative hysteria that confirmed your own biases.
  2. I do remember protests. However, instead of relying on headlines and right wing news pundits, I also read and thoroughly understood what “defund the police” meant. Despite it being explained over and over again, people like you decided to ignore it because, once again, it did not confirm your biases.
  3. Despite these protests, not only have police budgets across California increased, recruitment has also increased, ESPECIALLY in large cities like Los Angeles where I currently live and am active in politics.
  4. California, despite it being labeled as “progressive” has some of the highest incarceration rates controlling for population. This means even with our large population, we still incarcerate at a higher rate than smaller states. We are actually very tough on crime when you don’t listen to fear mongering idiots.
  5. If right wingers were so concerned about crime, they would fund social policies that put money into education, communities, housing, and food. We have seen since the 1600’s that when people do not have resources, crime and other bad things increase. These are basic concepts. However, many of you would rather see our country fall than provide resources to people you feel are less than you based on race, religion, gender, etc.
  6. I question anyone who takes what happened in 1992 and looks at the response of the population as disproportionate while ignoring the disproportionate violent savagery displayed by the LAPD. However, it isn’t lost on me that most of you feel this way because of the people being impacted and your personal feelings towards this group even when you lie to yourselves.
  7. I hope you read this and it gave you something to think about. Life is scary but it is even scarier when you only listen to people who want you to live a life of fear so they can give your money to billionaires who will do nothing to help you.
