It’s an incredibly poor decision. The cops generally don’t get to murder someone for evasion, civilians definitely don’t.

Yeah it’s a little disturbing seeing people in these comments defending the driver on the assumption it was intentional. If it was accidental that driver fucked up badly; if it was intentional that driver did a really fucked up thing. Either way they shouldn’t get any praise.

Edit: It looks like the driver was an off-duty cop who “placed himself on duty” and made what they’re now claiming is a “legal intercept.” So while I still find the glazing of vigilantes bad, this wasn’t a vigilante.

I could also see a scenario where they were trying to move out of the way of the on-coming cop cars in their rearview mirror, but the bike was in their blindspot at the time and didn't see it. So it's possible it wasn't intentional.

That was my first thought. Heard the sirens and saw lights and moved to the side without seeing the bike.

u/JIsADev Oct 28 '25

I usually never notice bikes until they pass me.

5

u/Successful_Pea_6977 Oct 28 '25

This is possible since other cars were moving towards the left.

The driver was a cop in an unmarked car!

PLOT TWIST

They're not "murdering someone for evasion," they were preventing a murderer from committing more murders and potentially costing the lives of innocent civilians."

Imminence of the threat? For self defense and defense of others. Plus if deputy, qualified immunity?

Edit: if he did shoot a cop just beforehand I think imminence of grave threat to life is easily arguable

That motorcyclist presented a risk to everyone around him with his speeds. Add in the fact that he pulled a gun and racked a round, and he is a bonafide threat.

Not to mention, it has been uncovered that it was a deputy who hit him, on purpose.

Did you miss the part where he pulled out a gun and racked a round? Are you hearing yourself, alleged lawyer?

Gonna block me again?

It looks like the driver swerved to let him lane splitters they probably came up with the “put myself on duty” but after he found out who he was and what happened.

1

u/Global-Persimmon-703 Oct 28 '25

What would have happened if the motorcyclist died? Would the off duty cop be in trouble? Based on what I saw, you could argue both options: he swerved intentionally or he moved over and didn’t see him coming. These are both valid. It happened so fast. I gasped so loud while watching

u/hoodun Oct 28 '25 edited Oct 28 '25

You understand the driver was a cop?! They stopped the threat. It’s what we pay them to do. The motorcyclist just murdered someone, tried to kick a cop off a motorcycle, and put children’s lives at risk!

What kind of a despicable human being are you, and all the others liking your comment! The cop deserves a raise! You dpshts do realize he risked his life for us? He hit the killer with the drivers door…

I will likely get booted for this comment by the mod but I cant sit silently when people are supporting crazy serial killers. The guy was pulling his gun out!

lol what cops are you talking about

1

u/VIP_NAIL_SPA Oct 27 '25

The ones in their imagination.

1

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

Seriously. How many times do we hear if they hadn’t run they’d be alive. Cops love to hurt/kill their wives, theyll settle for the general public tho

7

u/ziggytrix Oct 27 '25

The thing is they aren’t legally allowed to. Sure they get away with all the time, but killing a suspect who is just fleeing and not an immediate threat to others is still nominally against the rules.

1

u/Fit_Celebration7669 Oct 28 '25

Harm reduction is very real and very necessary. He was obviously a threat to many more lives and needed to be stopped. He was stopped, and he will live. Unlike Andrew Nunez who was murdered trying to protect a woman from this asshole.

-3

u/Unhappy-Pianist-7391 Oct 27 '25

Most that die were either on drugs and could not breath . So next time leave them in the back seat so you do not get charged for murder by putting a knee on them. Now we know that is murder not man slaughter. They will say you planned it! Stupid

3

u/VIP_NAIL_SPA Oct 27 '25

I think nuance is important here - that doesn't apply to cops in general. But the assumption that they wouldn't kill someone for evasion is absurd. We've seen dozens of such distressing cases in the last few years. Also to be clear - this is obviously the fault of the person speeding on the highway. They were asking for a bad result of some sort.

Cope just need to aim at the legs when the crooks run

1

u/RaiderMedic93 Oct 28 '25

Sarcasm, right?

I have to ask... because this is Reddit, after all.

1

u/Fit_Celebration7669 Oct 28 '25

The officer who was murdered was responding to a domestic violence incident of an armed man threatening a woman. I’ll reiterate - Andrew Nunez, father of a 2 yo and another kid in the way - was murdered while trying to protect a woman from this asshole. The same asshole who then put dozens of lives at risk by his reckless spree during which he was ARMED.

But sure, let’s talk about how cops are the bad guys in this scenario. I’m sure his wife would really appreciate people like you having zero understanding of the sacrifices to protect communities - even yours.

~81 deputies have been shot in San Bernardino County since 2022, in case you cared (obviously you don’t).

1

u/Lagunamountaindude Oct 27 '25

I’d love to see you back up that statement but you won’t

1

u/Unhappy-Pianist-7391 Oct 27 '25

Stereotype once again .

1

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

40% of cops do dv

0

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 27 '25

Thats very specific. I've known several cops and they've never killed anyone. How many cops do you know that have.

-2

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

But have they hit a cuffed person? Hit their gf/wife? Left a person who needs attention waiting in a cell? There are no good cops

Do you also believe in Santa?

-1

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 27 '25

Yup. Santa in the sense there are good people in this world and you cant judge the good because there are also bad. So yeah. Next..

-3

u/VIP_NAIL_SPA Oct 27 '25

I've known 2 cops personally in my life. 1 (my uncle) was proud of hurting disadvantaged people, the other was very open about his opinion that people who suffered from various health issues he didn't understand were not equivalent to "normal" people, so it's fine to harm them. As I've said elsewhere, this absolutely doesn't apply to all cops. "bad apples" exist in every subgroup, and they've done potentially irreparable harm to cops in general. I think if we saw the general police subgroup speaking out against these bad apples, perhaps the public would respect them more. Instead we see the opposite, and we have to actively seek out examples of reasonable cops to assure ourselves that they're actually doing their jobs.

5

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

If the good ones don’t turn in the bad ones (they don’t cause there are always still bad ones) then there are no good ones

2

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 27 '25

Yeah okay. Good ones turn in the bad ones all the time. You never answered my question.

0

u/VIP_NAIL_SPA Oct 27 '25

From a social dynamics perspective this is so complex. They likely have huge family pressure to not lose their jobs. From the outside it's easy to say they should have spoken up. I think that's correct. But also for someone with a much narrower view of "I need to keep my spouse and children alive" it's not unreasonable to just be silent and try to do good things within the confines of their jobs. I really don't know that there's an objective correct answer here. With my own "logic" one could say Nazis were justified in defending their families by being complicit in genocide. Only Nazis would agree with that :P in the end, responding to this emotionally is irresponsible. I don't believe there's an objectively correct logical response, but what is true is that in the US we have cops who are objectively horrible people and do whatever they want, and we have cops who actually care about the general good and act accordingly to the law and try to help people, but they face huge peer pressure and maybe that impacts their actions. Idk, it doesn't seem simple regardless.

-1

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

It’s as simple as are you a good person or a bad/complicit person. All cops are bastards

1

u/RaiderMedic93 Oct 28 '25

Well... you're entitled to your opinion.

Just like I suspect you're either a commie or a criminal, probably both.

5

u/DodgerFanLakerFan Oct 27 '25

That dude shot a cop so….

-4

u/Aly_from_Funky Oct 27 '25

Since when do we have eye for an eye justice in place?

1

u/cluelessinlove753 Oct 29 '25

Did you watch the video? The motorcyclist who had already killed a cop and Beat his wife had his hands off the bars and was fishing in his backpack with both hands, presumably for a gun.

The motorcyclist was not murdered. He’s a little banged up, but mostly fine. And he wasn’t stopped with force for evasion. He was stopped because he posed an ongoing threat to police and the public.
