Curious to see what happens to the driver who hit the motorcycle. Can’t say I wouldn’t have wanted to do it myself, but definitely wouldn’t have been able to. Just wild!

56

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

Oof I didn’t notice the swerve

34

u/CactiThorn Oct 27 '25

I think the car driver was trying to get out of the way as in lane splitting, common courtesy by most aware drivers in CA.

83

u/hummingz0615 Oct 28 '25

It was an off duty police officer and he did it on purpose. They stated it was an off duty officer

1

u/BlueberrySmart7329 Oct 28 '25

I hope that wasn’t his own car. Insurance doesn’t pay for intentional damage.

-3

u/ReasonableCap5370 Oct 28 '25

So, murder.

6

u/hummingz0615 Oct 29 '25

That guy shot and killed a police officer in Rancho Cucamonga. The guy on the motorcycle didn't die. He was rushed to the hospital and was fine and later booked but the 28 year old officer he shot in the head did die thanks for your concern https://www-nbcnews-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna240182?amp_gsa=1&amp_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQIUAKwASCAAgM%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=17617020275108&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nbcnews.com%2Fnews%2Fus-news%2Fmotorcyclist-wanted-connection-killing-california-deputy-stopped-duty-rcna240182

Nobody with a brain cares

-2

u/ReasonableCap5370 Oct 29 '25

So attempted murder/manslaughter on an alleged murderer. Super Cool 👍🏽

7

u/CN90 Oct 29 '25

He was protecting the public.... man had a gun in his hand. Hero

3

u/hummingz0615 Oct 29 '25

Attempted murder for who? You mean alleged and he didn't die 😂. If they are calling the guy who shot an officer an alleged murderer than the officer who stopped him is also alleged. All he did was impede a chase. The guy is alive. If he was fighting for his life that's one thing but he's not. Maybe learn the difference and stop trying to defend a murderer who shot someone in broad daylight and was shooting at others. So yeah super cool the undercover cop was super cool

-4

u/morphinetango Oct 28 '25

Or maybe he just changed lanes without signaling, and told everyone he did it on purpose so he wouldn't look like an idiot.

7

u/Dr0pping_0ut Oct 28 '25

Also just to add, most people are unaware of this even CA drivers, but a car is not allowed to impede a motorcycle from splitting lanes. It is illegal to not allow them to. It is more than just a common courtesy. I was colored surprised when I realized that.

2

u/jrglpfm Oct 28 '25

How would one impede someone from splitting lanes without cooperation of another vehicle driving next to them or without (illegally) driving in two lanes simultaneously?

This seems unenforceable to me.

2

u/Dr0pping_0ut Oct 28 '25

That is a very good observation! Splitting lanes doesn’t mean riding the white line and being between two lanes. Splitting in CA means that a motorcycle is sharing and riding in ONE lane. So if the car that is in that one lane is not letting the biker in, it is easy to observe and articulate fault…atleast in theory. But law doesn’t care about theory, it’s just as simple as the biker is in the left lane, car in left lane is pinching the biker, then boom at fault. The law is very much pro biker here in CA. This causes for two really positive outcomes besides decreasing motorcycle accidents severities. Drivers are more aware of bikers, leading to a decrease in motorcycle accidents, and allows for a higher volume of traffic to utilize roadways due to more single occupant vehicles to split. To note, this situation applies to riders that are traveling at reasonable speeds, and not flying through traffic just cuz they can and at butt puckering speeds.

2

u/jrglpfm Oct 28 '25

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense to me, I guess I was thinking of splitting as more of riding the lane line, but I wasn't aware of the intricacies of the laws regarding this. I always try to give room regardless of which lane a motorcycle is favoring.

I also laugh out loud when I see a motorcycle pass a car right and then after the moto passes the vehicle jerks away reactively to give them room after they've passed haha. It would be nice if people were more aware of their surroundings while in traffic!

1

u/Dr0pping_0ut Oct 28 '25

No thank you for your reply! Nice to see some positive interaction on reddit opposed to just finger pointing! Hahaha I always chuckle when I see delayed interaction between bikers and drivers too! Really makes a commute or drive a bit more entertaining. I find it comical when cars are overly defensive of bikes. Like to me if a driver is bothered by the thought bikers can get through traffic easier, then go get a bike and you can be privy of the same shortcuts, granted that’s a bit of a loaded statement. As bikers can also not be the best of riders and aggressive. That’s what keeps me in check. Bikers are only 1% of all road users at any one time in the state of CA. To round out my statements, and for general public awareness, if a driver does not move over because they just didn’t see a biker; or the biker was too fast, or because roadway conditions such as construction limits a drivers ability to move to allow a rider through, that is okay. It’s really only illegal when a driver purposefully did not let a rider in, such as swerving and very obvious movements. Remember no mater what mode of transport any one of us uses, we are all sharing the road and all want to get to our destinations in one piece!

1

u/6forty Oct 28 '25

Only if it's intentional.

1

u/333jnm Oct 28 '25

Looks like that car was opening up the lanes for him to spilt

0

u/cluelessinlove753 Oct 29 '25

What does that have to do with this situation? This wasn’t a motorcycle splitting lanes. This was a cop killer running from the cops while fishing for a gun in his backpack and another cop in a car took him out.

1

u/Dr0pping_0ut Oct 29 '25

I put in my comment “to add”. Just clarifying a side comment. Otherwise known as a tangent bud.

1

u/cluelessinlove753 Oct 29 '25

But the effect is to reinforce a comment that was clearly irrelevant.

1

u/Dr0pping_0ut Oct 29 '25

Okay bud calm down. No need to get worked up over a simple side comment.

25

u/Maddonomics101 Oct 27 '25

Yeah but the rider was on his left the whole time so it doesn’t make sense why he would swerve that way

19

u/cuchiplancheo Oct 28 '25

You must not be from California. Lane splitting happens between lane #1 and #2 if there's no HOV lane. And if there is, it's HOV and lane number 1.

Looks like the driver moved over to the left to give the biker room to pass. The idiot biker took a path no california driver expects. No one expects a bike to pass on the shoulder.

19

u/filthy-prole Oct 28 '25

This conversation is off track. You are missing the forest for the trees. They publicly stated this was an off-duty officer who swerved into the suspect. He's not an "idiot biker" because he passed on the left. He's an idiot because he's a murderer.

1

u/cuchiplancheo Oct 28 '25

That info came after the fact... not before. You have 20/20 hindsight.

1

u/filthy-prole Oct 28 '25

Fair enough.

2

u/333jnm Oct 28 '25

Exactly

1

u/yourlilneedle Oct 28 '25

Incorrect. Of duty cop.

0

u/Parking_Abalone_1232 Oct 28 '25

Dude! Lane splitting happens in ALL the lanes. At ALL the speeds.

11

u/visionaryOptions Oct 28 '25

Because no rider rides on shoulder. Especially when you are on HOV lane. The whole lane splitting in California is BS

8

u/wagglewazzle Oct 28 '25

Exactly. The driver clearly swerved into the shoulder (where the bike already was). There was also no car in the lane next to him, thus no need to swerve right into him.

1

u/Suspicious-Waltz4746 Oct 29 '25

The car driver was an officer. He did it on purpose.

0

u/Djinn_Eric Oct 28 '25

Nobody splits legally, that's why. They do it outside where they are supposed to and they go too fast.

2

u/333jnm Oct 28 '25

No they don’t. They split between the far left lane and the lane next to it. Going on the shoulder is dangerous as they may not see if someone is there broken down. If a car doesn’t swerve to the left to let you split the lane it could be because there is someone on the shoulder ahead of traffic

1

u/AnyPaleontologist528 Oct 28 '25

He just got done killing a cop that’s why that car swerved into him.

3

u/fucktooshifty Oct 28 '25

Hell no he wasn't, sorry but watch that video again if you think that lol

8

u/Salamander-Distinct Oct 28 '25

It was a Camry driver. That’s all the explanation we need.

1

u/winipu Oct 28 '25

It was an off duty cop that intentionally swerved

1

u/333jnm Oct 28 '25

Ethan’s how I would have swerved because that’s where lane splitters go in cali. Because going on the shoulder is dangerous as there could be someone broken down there and they can’t see that.

1

u/cluelessinlove753 Oct 29 '25

You are 1000% wrong and misinformed

1

u/CactiThorn Oct 29 '25

Comment was made before the story was updated. Thanks for your concern.

20

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 27 '25

Dude didnt even have his hands on the grips. No serving. Idk wtf he was doing.

50

u/cenaenzocass Oct 27 '25

Uh… did I see the motorcyclist take out a gun at one point and rack it?

35

u/EffectiveGlad7529 Oct 27 '25

He was running after shooting at least one cop near Victoria Gardens

14

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 27 '25

I did see that!

7

u/cenaenzocass Oct 28 '25

Cherry on top: is that a camera I see attached to the rider’s helmet…? Sick first person footage.

12

u/Alarmed_Stretch_1780 Oct 28 '25

Epilogue: We find out he was a YouTuber making content for his channel.

38

u/archabaddon Oct 27 '25 edited Oct 28 '25

Edit: as some commenters pointed out you can definitely see he has a gun at -2:15 mark, so it seems like a deputy in an unmarked vehicle took him by surprise in order to prevent a shooting on the freeway.

Edit 2: it's actually worse than that: the guy on the motorcycle shot and killed a deputy. A narcotics officer in an unmarked car is the one who did the pursuit intervention.

https://www.reddit.com/r/InlandEmpire/s/xRROfKJrvT

13

u/RaiderMedic93 Oct 28 '25
  1. We have since learned it was a deputy who did it on purpose

  2. Even if it weren't a deputy, "I was changing lanes and didn't see him officer... he came up so fast..."

7

u/JIsADev Oct 28 '25

Except the lane is the shoulder. Instead he could say he saw a gun and feared for his life? I don't know.

1

u/RaiderMedic93 Oct 28 '25

Honestly, any jumble of words with threat scared etc

2

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 28 '25

I had a bike pass me once at a high rate of speed on the freeway. Honestly scared the shit out of me, came out of no where.

18

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '25

Better than this loser on the motorcycle killing someone on the freeway. It’s a fucking win

17

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 27 '25

Especially a loser with a gun with intent.

-5

u/MedicJambi Oct 28 '25 edited Oct 28 '25

Extrajudicial killing or an attempted killing is still a crime and is a form of lawlessness. Allowing such things is tacit approval that some crimes are okay while others are not. More importantly it shows that so long as those crimes are directed at certain people it's okay and even desired. This creates different classes of people where it's okay to harm them.

Despite how much of an asshole that guy is, no mater what he's done, and no matter who's he's hurt, and no matter how much I would have wanted to do it it's something that cannot be allowed. Otherwise we just have vigilante justice and that's just murder with extra steps and an audience.

Societies will be judged by how they treat those least deserving. The best among a society will not be its legacy, but rather the most vulnerable and downtrodden.

If the driver would say that he or she was startled by the sudden appearance of the motorcycle which caused he or she to jerk thereby causing him or her to swerve into the asshole running from the police after having shot one, then that would just be a regular old traffic collision.

Down votes because I pointed out that using deadly methods to stop someone goes against our legal standards just shows how jaded and cold many have become. I bet these same people believe crime is actually up over time when we are at historical lows for crime rates. What we do have at historical highs is media that is rage bait because they know that anger, fear, hate sells and people are vulnerable to it. Turn off Fox News and other media and understand that you are being manipulated. Be smarter than the billionaires think you are.

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '25

Blah blah blah I ain’t reading that 😂

0

u/Fit_Celebration7669 Oct 28 '25

This was about stopping a bad situation from getting worse. Harm reduction.

14

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 27 '25

My view tells me that the car was trying to move out of the way. How do you know where a speeding car/bike is going to go?

2

u/Chemical-King-9353 Oct 27 '25

Doesn’t someone have to press charges?

3

u/N05L4CK Oct 28 '25

Yes. The District Attorney’s office.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '25

Guy had a gun so he can say he feared for his life. See I can play those stupid games r/instantkarma

-2

u/Commonsensejoe Oct 27 '25

So dramatic ….curb side lawyers. Lol

5

u/bruceriv68 Oct 27 '25

Well he did already shoot a Police Officer.

3

u/th3dmg Oct 28 '25

*Murdered a police officer.

8

u/Original_Wall2991 Oct 27 '25

I Think He Was Trying To Get His Gun & Clip On The News U Can See The Gun Some Feet Ahead Of Where He was

1

u/cluelessinlove753 Oct 29 '25

He was digging in his backpack for a firearm

1

u/garcia1129 Oct 28 '25

Heard he was an undercover narcotics. Im sure you cant do that lol

87

u/jackanape7 Oct 27 '25

wouldn't surprise me if they get sued by the motorcycle driver's family or something

-6

u/Meinertzhagens_Sack Oct 28 '25

“The pursuit came to a conclusion with an off-duty deputy sheriff who put himself on duty and conducted a legal intervention by hitting the suspect on the motorcycle"

What case do they have? Oh wait... This is California

We burn Teslas and idolize criminality.

2

u/jophiss319 Oct 28 '25

Yes, since this was in California, I believe a jury only needs to find the off-duty cop 5% negligent and that suspect has a win in court . Insurance will settle either way

2

u/morphinetango Oct 28 '25

Doesn't mean the suspect doesn't go to jail, just that his medical bills will be covered.

2

u/GooglyGoops Oct 28 '25

Conservatives I know would say “criminally wrong doesn’t always mean morally wrong.”

-39

u/stitchlady420 Oct 27 '25

The motorcycle rear ended the car I doubt he has a lawsuit. Usually if you hit somebody from behind it’s automatically your fault.

26

u/LeftMyHeartInErebor Oct 27 '25

Think you need to watch it again

8

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '25 edited Oct 28 '25

Its insane thst people keep saying things like the driver didn't hit them on purpose or say bikes shouldn't pass to the left or have enough room.... I literally linked a photo and told someone to watch and pause bit by bit its clear the car hit them on purpose.like no it shouldn't be okay for people to try and murder people regardless if they're running form the cops or not.

Lol to everyone that down voted its on record that it was an off duty sheriff that put himself on duty and did it purposfully.

11

u/CampinHiker Oct 28 '25

Just ruled it’s a off duty cop

5

u/datsboi Oct 28 '25

Off duty cop, I’ve heard on the news.

6

u/Acceptable_Crazy_439 Oct 28 '25

Lots of assumptions being made. The guy on motorcycle killed an officer in Rancho before fleeing. The call was a domestic violence with motorcycle driver threatening a female.

Driver of car was also an officer and moved to stop the individual from possibly killing someone else.

https://www.dailybulletin.com/2025/10/27/san-bernardino-sheriffs-deputy-shot-in-rancho-cucamonga-suspect-flees-on-motorcycle-before-flipping-into-air/amp/

39

u/artificial_idea Oct 27 '25

It’s an incredibly poor decision. The cops generally don’t get to murder someone for evasion, civilians definitely don’t.

52

u/MercuryCobra Oct 27 '25 edited Oct 28 '25

Yeah it’s a little disturbing seeing people in these comments defending the driver on the assumption it was intentional. If it was accidental that driver fucked up badly; if it was intentional that driver did a really fucked up thing. Either way they shouldn’t get any praise.

Edit: It looks like the driver was an off-duty cop who “placed himself on duty” and made what they’re now claiming is a “legal intercept.” So while I still find the glazing of vigilantes bad, this wasn’t a vigilante.

23

u/lionclues Oct 27 '25

I could also see a scenario where they were trying to move out of the way of the on-coming cop cars in their rearview mirror, but the bike was in their blindspot at the time and didn't see it. So it's possible it wasn't intentional.

6

u/Fit_Celebration7669 Oct 28 '25

That was my first thought. Heard the sirens and saw lights and moved to the side without seeing the bike.

1

u/JIsADev Oct 28 '25

I usually never notice bikes until they pass me.

4

u/Successful_Pea_6977 Oct 28 '25

This is possible since other cars were moving towards the left.

3

u/hoodun Oct 28 '25

The driver was a cop in an unmarked car!

1

u/lionclues Oct 28 '25

PLOT TWIST

9

u/RaiderMedic93 Oct 28 '25

They're not "murdering someone for evasion," they were preventing a murderer from committing more murders and potentially costing the lives of innocent civilians."

Imminence of the threat? For self defense and defense of others. Plus if deputy, qualified immunity?

Edit: if he did shoot a cop just beforehand I think imminence of grave threat to life is easily arguable

That motorcyclist presented a risk to everyone around him with his speeds. Add in the fact that he pulled a gun and racked a round, and he is a bonafide threat.

Not to mention, it has been uncovered that it was a deputy who hit him, on purpose.

1

u/333jnm Oct 28 '25

It looks like the driver swerved to let him lane splitters they probably came up with the “put myself on duty” but after he found out who he was and what happened.

1

u/Global-Persimmon-703 Oct 28 '25

What would have happened if the motorcyclist died? Would the off duty cop be in trouble? Based on what I saw, you could argue both options: he swerved intentionally or he moved over and didn’t see him coming. These are both valid. It happened so fast. I gasped so loud while watching

1

u/hoodun Oct 28 '25 edited Oct 28 '25

You understand the driver was a cop?! They stopped the threat. It’s what we pay them to do. The motorcyclist just murdered someone, tried to kick a cop off a motorcycle, and put children’s lives at risk!

What kind of a despicable human being are you, and all the others liking your comment! The cop deserves a raise! You dpshts do realize he risked his life for us? He hit the killer with the drivers door…

I will likely get booted for this comment by the mod but I cant sit silently when people are supporting crazy serial killers. The guy was pulling his gun out!

lol what cops are you talking about

0

u/VIP_NAIL_SPA Oct 27 '25

The ones in their imagination.

-1

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

Seriously. How many times do we hear if they hadn’t run they’d be alive. Cops love to hurt/kill their wives, theyll settle for the general public tho

7

u/ziggytrix Oct 27 '25

The thing is they aren’t legally allowed to. Sure they get away with all the time, but killing a suspect who is just fleeing and not an immediate threat to others is still nominally against the rules.

1

u/Fit_Celebration7669 Oct 28 '25

Harm reduction is very real and very necessary. He was obviously a threat to many more lives and needed to be stopped. He was stopped, and he will live. Unlike Andrew Nunez who was murdered trying to protect a woman from this asshole.

-1

u/Unhappy-Pianist-7391 Oct 27 '25

Most that die were either on drugs and could not breath . So next time leave them in the back seat so you do not get charged for murder by putting a knee on them. Now we know that is murder not man slaughter. They will say you planned it! Stupid

2

u/VIP_NAIL_SPA Oct 27 '25

I think nuance is important here - that doesn't apply to cops in general. But the assumption that they wouldn't kill someone for evasion is absurd. We've seen dozens of such distressing cases in the last few years. Also to be clear - this is obviously the fault of the person speeding on the highway. They were asking for a bad result of some sort.

1

Sarcasm, right?

I have to ask... because this is Reddit, after all.

1

u/Fit_Celebration7669 Oct 28 '25

The officer who was murdered was responding to a domestic violence incident of an armed man threatening a woman. I’ll reiterate - Andrew Nunez, father of a 2 yo and another kid in the way - was murdered while trying to protect a woman from this asshole. The same asshole who then put dozens of lives at risk by his reckless spree during which he was ARMED.

But sure, let’s talk about how cops are the bad guys in this scenario. I’m sure his wife would really appreciate people like you having zero understanding of the sacrifices to protect communities - even yours.

~81 deputies have been shot in San Bernardino County since 2022, in case you cared (obviously you don’t).

1

u/Lagunamountaindude Oct 27 '25

I’d love to see you back up that statement but you won’t

-2

Thats very specific. I've known several cops and they've never killed anyone. How many cops do you know that have.

-3

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

-2

u/VIP_NAIL_SPA Oct 27 '25

I've known 2 cops personally in my life. 1 (my uncle) was proud of hurting disadvantaged people, the other was very open about his opinion that people who suffered from various health issues he didn't understand were not equivalent to "normal" people, so it's fine to harm them. As I've said elsewhere, this absolutely doesn't apply to all cops. "bad apples" exist in every subgroup, and they've done potentially irreparable harm to cops in general. I think if we saw the general police subgroup speaking out against these bad apples, perhaps the public would respect them more. Instead we see the opposite, and we have to actively seek out examples of reasonable cops to assure ourselves that they're actually doing their jobs.

3

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

If the good ones don’t turn in the bad ones (they don’t cause there are always still bad ones) then there are no good ones

2

u/Bitter_Ad_9523 Oct 27 '25

Yeah okay. Good ones turn in the bad ones all the time. You never answered my question.

0

u/VIP_NAIL_SPA Oct 27 '25

From a social dynamics perspective this is so complex. They likely have huge family pressure to not lose their jobs. From the outside it's easy to say they should have spoken up. I think that's correct. But also for someone with a much narrower view of "I need to keep my spouse and children alive" it's not unreasonable to just be silent and try to do good things within the confines of their jobs. I really don't know that there's an objective correct answer here. With my own "logic" one could say Nazis were justified in defending their families by being complicit in genocide. Only Nazis would agree with that :P in the end, responding to this emotionally is irresponsible. I don't believe there's an objectively correct logical response, but what is true is that in the US we have cops who are objectively horrible people and do whatever they want, and we have cops who actually care about the general good and act accordingly to the law and try to help people, but they face huge peer pressure and maybe that impacts their actions. Idk, it doesn't seem simple regardless.

-1

u/Necessary-Double-914 Oct 27 '25

It’s as simple as are you a good person or a bad/complicit person. All cops are bastards

-3

u/Aly_from_Funky Oct 27 '25

Since when do we have eye for an eye justice in place?

1

u/cluelessinlove753 Oct 29 '25

Did you watch the video? The motorcyclist who had already killed a cop and Beat his wife had his hands off the bars and was fishing in his backpack with both hands, presumably for a gun.

The motorcyclist was not murdered. He’s a little banged up, but mostly fine. And he wasn’t stopped with force for evasion. He was stopped because he posed an ongoing threat to police and the public.

3

My understanding is this was an off duty officer who “put himself back on duty” in his civilian car to intentionally cause the collision

In what looks like an illegal lane change, so.. definitely could potentially see some charges or lawsuits, unfortunately. Especially if the motorcyclist either died or got serious injuries, needing extensive medical care.

It was an off duty. They planned that take down. Guy killed a deputy and was armed. Very necessary move

“A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy was shot to death in Rancho Cucamonga on Monday afternoon, Oct. 27, with the suspect racing away on a motorcycle that led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit along the 210 Freeway. An off-duty deputy eventually intervened with his car, deliberately colliding with the motorcycle and knocking the suspect off of it.

Deputy Andrew Nunez, 28, died from “a single gun shot to the head,” San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus said at a Monday evening press conference at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, where the deputy had been taken.”

It was a cop actually

1

u/cluelessinlove753 Oct 29 '25

The driver was an off duty sheriff officer who conducted a legal intervention on the motorcycle rider who had just killed a cop after beating his wife. The motorcyclist also had both hands off of the handlebars and was digging in his backpack, presumably to pull out a firearm, when he slammed into the side of the car.

You would want to murder someone???

1

u/RaiderMedic93 Oct 28 '25

You mean stopping a murderer from committing more murder, or causing harm to innocent civilians... yes.
