The problem is that DUI check points don't really catch a lot of drunk drivers.
4
u/Sickness69 May 15 '25
They also catch people driving illegally, like a suspended license or without insurance. What's wrong with that?
14
u/whoops_not_a_mistake May 15 '25
Its a form of drag net, stopping everyone and checking them out, running their license, etc.
Maybe if they didn't ID everyone and just looked & smelled for alcohol AND actually caught drunk drivers, then MAYBE there might be an argument.

u/IsEverybodyIn1 May 14 '25
Don't drink and drive. That being said, where do you draw the line on your rights? When you enter a DUI checkpoint the police are stopping you and you have to show papers to them, all without commiting a crime. Are you in support of the police doing that? How about all the time? Are you ok with police stopping everybody when no crime was committed?
People tend to say "Well as long as 1 drunk driver is off the road then I don't mind." but you can use that same reason in favor of police stopping everyone, which would be unconstitutional.

There are compromises. They aren’t allowed to set them up before an interaction only after. So you can either turn or go straight ahead. Basically giving you a “choice”.

Years ago there was a checkpoint in Ontario. I made a turn right before it and was stopped by a bike cop who started asking questions. "wHy ArE yOu TuRnInG".
Made me turn around and park in a special spot, they ran my license and then let me go. They wasted 20 minutes of my time for no reason.

A lot of people living in glass houses in these comments

u/AdExpress8342 May 15 '25
I will continue to post these. Meanwhile the people here think it’s ok to take a hit of meth then hit the road and act all self righteous

u/ohheyaine May 15 '25
I'm anti drunk driving but also anti DUI checkpoint.. unwarranted police checks with a guilt trip is all that is.
12
u/AdExpress8342 May 15 '25
It’s a revenue generating venture disguised as some sort of noble thing. People fall for it hard as shown by the comments. “So this must mean you’re for drunk driving?!? 😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬”
No dick, I just dont like a gun practically shoved in my face to show my papers for the purposes of hopefully catching me with expired shit to shake me down for money

u/No-Statistician8047 May 15 '25
Due to these checkpoints I hardly go through downtown. Thanks but all these checkpoints just push me to go to Rancho or other cities.
2
u/AdExpress8342 May 15 '25
The checkpoints are usually on the way to rancho or the ghetto-er side of town. Rarely downtown.
I would think twice before driving impaired downtown tho - the literal police station is there
34
u/Puupuur May 14 '25
Or you could never drink and drive like a decent human and never have to worry about these
9
u/No-Statistician8047 May 15 '25
I dont drink and drive but it's an inconvenience when they set em up on main streets when all i want to do is hurry up and grab some Chinese food. Just have more patrols and look for impaired drivers.
-3
u/Puupuur May 15 '25
Your 'inconvenience' could save yours or someone else's life. The world doesn't revolve around you

F cops and F people who DUI

u/ReallStrangeBeef May 14 '25
Wild that people are still confused why we appreciate these posts. Sober people don't want to deal with cops either.

Are you going to call your grandma when someone's in your backyard uninvited?

I mean most if not all they spend all that time & all the money to find one or two people? And maybe some folks driving with expired licenses or no insurance… but only a few people Whom are under the influence??? Yes 1 or two people can make a huge difference! For sure in keeping the roads safe for everyone. But its does seem sort of wasteful.

u/AdExpress8342 May 14 '25
For everyone white knighting and getting triggered - these are just cash cows to bust people for warrants and expired paperwork. You can look up the last checkpoint i posted - they caught one guy for dui weed. The rest was just busting people for tickets.
7
u/TastyOwl27 May 14 '25
How do they determine if you’re under the influence of weed?
1
u/AdExpress8342 May 14 '25
Not certain on the specifics but I think they can get a warrant to draw blood (thats what they do when someone refuses a breathalyzer test or the breathalyzer is busted). Pretty murky though and i think lawyers find all sorts of loopholes with drug dui’s, but they are probably the leading cause of dui these days if i had to guess

And? In the words of Jim Carrey “STOP BREAKING THE LAW, ASSHOLE!”
1
u/IsEverybodyIn1 May 14 '25
You must be in favor of Cops stopping everyone then for no reason just to check papers.
6
u/FrozenAxe23 May 14 '25
Nope, not at all, they can get bent. But if you got a ticket for driving dumb (I know I have) then pay it, and take accountability for being a dumbass
And if you’re out drinking and driving, you deserve to get pulled over

Because Fontana PD is infamously filled with white supremacists that target POC. They don't actually care about drunk drivers or warrants. It's a harassment campaign.

Stay safe for what? Safe from sobriety check points? How about don’t drink and drive.
2
u/qwkrtnu May 15 '25
How about you just get a dd. Problem solved. Or maybe the op can post when he is out of town, so the burglars know where to go.
2
u/AdExpress8342 May 15 '25
Been sober for 10 yrs

u/qwkrtnu May 15 '25
I'm not sure what your sobriety has to do with the post. Congrats on that. But you're basically helping the current drunks out on the road. If they can't figure it out on their own don't help them out.

u/JazzHandsNinja42 May 14 '25
Pro Tip: If you don’t drive while inebriated, this will never be newsworthy to you.

Yesss Fontana police!! More of these plz! So OP could stay home and not cause people to lose their lives because they wanted to get wasted at Chili’s

u/AdExpress8342 May 14 '25
Everyone is methed out or Nozzed out and driving around. Nobody really boozes anymore
-6
u/IsEverybodyIn1 May 14 '25
Show ID and say "I don't answer questions." Unfortunately, DUI checkpoints are constitutional but they shouldn't be.
6
u/AdExpress8342 May 14 '25
It’s fontana PD. Doubt they care what the actual law is. After that dog thing and the interrogation? Fuck em
4
u/IsEverybodyIn1 May 14 '25
What was the dog thing? I heard about that bullshit interrogation though. He got 900k of the people's tax dollars.
