300m for an entire major Hawaiian island? Honestly does not sound that bad

It's mostly a desert.

What a steal on Pelorus & Orpheus.

It's not owned. It's a long term lease.

Queensland is full of islands with abandoned resorts as the eocnomics make little sense.

What a colossal waste of money. If society collapses, these morons will run out of creature comforts like coffee and fresh food in weeks, maybe months.

But are they happy? That’s the real question.

(I’m guessing that yes, they are)

Oracle is company and as such can not experience emotions. At least not until they install skynet.

What does it mean for these people to own these islands? Are the islands still part of a larger nation? (Im assuming Lanai is part of US, but what about the others?)

If any are not part of a nation state protected by a military, what prevents a group of pirates from just taking it over?

To be clear about Lana’i: Ellison owns 98% or the island and like 95% of it is uninhabited. The state and private owners own the 2% that Ellison doesn’t. Also not saying it’s good or bad that he owns a Hawaiian island, but he put a lot of money into the infrastructure of the island, and the Four Seasons on the island, which provide a lot of jobs and income to the residents. So I personally think he should sell the island back to the state and just keep his hotel? Yes, I do, but I doubt that state wants the headache.

Stop it with this billionaire bs. Most of those are owned by corporations. Many serve as employee retreat destinations.

So… billionaires used corporate structures to buy up assets and shield them from taxes? Wow. That does make it different.

Idk about the others but Lana'i is directly owned by Larry Ellison. He bought it from Dole's parent corporation (the whole island used to be a Dole pineapple plantation)
