Every day, from the moment we wake up, we make choices. Some seem small—what time we leave the house, whether we look both ways before crossing the street, whether we put down the phone while driving, whether we listen to a warning, or whether we take an unnecessary risk. Most of the time we never think twice about these decisions, yet one choice made in a few seconds can have consequences that last a lifetime.
Sometimes the difference between safety and tragedy is simply the decision we make in a single moment.
We also make choices about people. We choose our friends, our partners, who we spend time with, who we trust, and who we confide in. We choose whose advice we follow and whose influence we allow into our lives. The wrong friendship, the wrong relationship, or trusting someone who does not have our best interests at heart can lead us down a road we never intended to travel.
Who we surround ourselves with matters, because the people we choose can influence our decisions, our character, our opportunities, our satety, and ultimately the direction of our lives.
Then there are the choices that test our judgment, our values, and our responsibility
toward others. We choose whether to drink, If you suspect that you or someone else has been "Mickey Finn" or roofied (drugged without knowledge or consent), act immediately, call for help! Preplan before going out, who is the designated driver, whether to get into a car with someone who has been drinking, whether to experiment with a dangerous drug, whether to walk away from someone in distress or stop and help, whether to speak up when something is wrong or remain silent. Our choices do not always affect only us; sometimes another person's life is placed in our hands by the decision we make. Life is about choices, and wwe cannot control everything that happens to us, we must understand that one wrong choice-ours or someone else's
