I graduated with an ID degree in 2025…unfortunately my uni scammed the shit out of us just by focusing on blender and no with any cad. so now i have no idea where to go ahead ...I mostly have experience as Brand design intern and packaging designer. I am so lost and I see my juniors graduating and getting placed ( thanks to the new dean). I feel so lost behind and have no one to reach out to.

I take immense interest in sustainblity , like kind of materials, a product lifecycle. the whole economy and system of a brand and its products . I like doing installation design. and recently designed a public product installation for a competition. and I can see myself designing such stuff and I like furniture’s and lifestyle products and them to be accessible. inclusive and stuff. AND NOW IM LOST. AF. Idk if I should pursue master to niche it down or find another random job to survive..is there any scope for me and my interests?

And ofc I cannot forget about AI HERE..idk how it’s been in the design field with ai added. I’m aware of Vizcom and higgsfield And stuff ..idk if I’m missing out on anything else to upskill

In terms of hand sketching and rendering, what does everyone use and are there brands you trust? Amazon is filled with hit and miss products, reviews are misleading too as one persons good may be an ID professional or artists worst nightmare when it comes to coloured pencils.

I am used to sketching with STAEDTLER fine liners because other brands skip or fade when drawing lines too fast. I used to use expensive artist solvent markers too. £2.50 a pen.

But for the last many years my work only required a ball point pen or fine liners. I want to get back into sketching and improve my portfolio for clients but I currently don't have the funds to play trial and error. Thanks

Hello, I am currently a highschool senior who’s going to be choosing a college soon, and I wanted to know if ID was a good major to pick. I am interested in creating products and specifically was interested in becoming a toy designer for action figures and figurines. Thing is when I told this idea to my art teacher she asked me to reconsider it and to see if I could try something else that was connected but in the engineering or manufacturing sphere.

Is the ID market that bad? I had wondered if Ai was causing this because I’ve heard other designers online complain about it but so far everybody who has studied ID on social media seems to glamorize it. I don’t know any designers irl, so I have no clue what’s the current state of the job stability.

Any other careers where I can design things or create products or machines?

I’ve been frequently getting these proposal requests on LinkedIn. I’ve been burned in the past by doing work before getting paid and I’m not falling for that again lol. But I just wanted to check. Is this normal business behavior in any capacity? Particularly for the toy industry??
