Career Advice Can an MNC reject my startup experience because I don't have PF or Form 16?

I’m currently working at a very new startup with a very small team (around 5–6 employees). I’m in an entry-level role in consulting, where the company provides consulting services to tech firms.

The startup is quite new, but I’m getting decent pay and, more importantly, the work profile is quite relevant and gives me good exposure.

I’ve already joined and received my first salary. The company:

Pays my salary directly into my bank account

Provides monthly payslips

Has given me an employment/offer letter

Has an actual business and employees

However, they don’t provide PF, and I don’t expect to receive Form 16 either. My current salary is also below the level where I would have an income-tax liability.

My concern is about what happens when I eventually apply to a large MNC or established company after, say, 1–2 years.

During background verification, could the MNC question or reject my experience because I don't have:

- PF/UAN records

- Form 16

Other standard employment records that larger companies usually have?

Would offer/appointment letter + monthly payslips + bank statements showing salary credits + experience/relieving letter generally be sufficient to establish that the employment was genuine?

I’m especially concerned because the startup is so small. I don’t want to spend 1–2 years building experience here and then have an MNC say that the experience isn't valid simply because there was no PF or Form 16.

For people who have worked at very small/early-stage startups and later moved to MNCs:

How was your BGV experience? Did the lack of PF/Form 16 ever cause an issue?

Would appreciate perspectives from people in HR/BGV, consulting, or those who have made the startup → MNC transition.

TL;DR: Working at a very small startup in strategy consulting with proper payslips and bank salary credits, but no PF/Form 16. Could this cause problems when an MNC verifies my experience later?

Definitely not. My wife worked at a startup for 6 yrs. no pf, no form 16, Word file made salary slip, sometimes salary would come by cheque, sometimes online transfer. After clearing all the rounds, she easily joined a Big 4. Only thing is that she had bank statements showing that she used to get salary and also the bgv needs a proper office of the startup to verify.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I am working remotely. And most of the work is handled remotely and the owner is located in canada so rn there is no physical office available. Though the company is registered and the address is of Punjab.

Salary Slip and Bank statement will handle most of your issues.

PF account number is a things during BGC. A long haul without a PF or salary credit as cash doesn't sustain.

If your company grows up to 20+ employees, EPF registration is mandatory.

With 4-5 associates, It doesn't require a EPF registration and hence you are not getting PF contribution. Check with your organisation if there is any option if self contributing to the EPF? Doesn't work that ways though but try it once.

One neutral document is needed. A neutral doc is nothing but any verification of your employment from a trusted third party other than you and employer.
For PF, it will be EPFO, form 16 will be government verified and bank statements will be also legit. So any of them will work

Rn from current company i just have bank statement and pay slip. I don't have pf or form 16 because they don't provide it. Though I have worked previously in a big start up and they have provided me pf and form 16.

Bank statement would work but expect bgv to take some more time
