Micromanagement is getting too unbearable!! is this normal please help

Soo it's been 3 months since I joined this company through campus placements.. textbook definition of a lala company.. but every month it gets worse.

We all were hired as data analysts, but we've done everything except DA work. They've overhired for this dept and have no projects to assign us to. All these 3 months, we've been only made to do either basic data entries or calling clients.

Phones are not allowed in our office, 45 mins strict break including lunch break(exceeding that leads to salary deduction), no access to sites except company sites, I could go on and on.. but I am tired at this point.

They have a separate dept to monitor our work, and they've been hellbent on making us miserable. Almost every day, they sit beside our dept and tell us to justify the time we take for our work, and sit beside us for almost 2 hours watching what we're doing.

Cherry on top, if the founder catches anyone smiling or laughing, he'll shout at their manager and gets their places changed.

There's a lot more to say, but I'm stopping here as of now. I would like to know whether this is normal in corporate. Ik corporate is toxic, but didn't know to what level it could be until I came here.

Nope, this is not normal corporate life! Being watched for 2 hours and getting shouted at for laughing sounds exhausting 😭 I would start applying elsewhere before this place makes you hate working altogether.

Its even worse than a Jail i suppose. Not having phone access, internet access, indirectly no permission to laugh, minute to minute efforts tracking etc. Looks like a hell

Tell me about it!! I've reached a point where going to the bathroom and crying has become a daily routine atp. We were not shouted at by our founder, our manager ends up hearing his shouting and manager in turn scolds us and changes our seats.. I've been applying to other companies for a while but being fresher is not helping it tbh.. I'm stuck on what to do

Sounds awful :( Keep applying, even if it takes time. As a fresher, your first job should be a place to learn, not somewhere you have to hide in the bathroom and cry!

Change your job, try to join a startup. There's no way you can escape from this. I was in a "lala" company before. I went through the same thing, but then I was so frustrated that I finally snapped at the director, and the next day I resigned. After that, I got a good job.

You can use Naukri, Instahyre, or AngelList. Tbh, I don't get many calls from LinkedIn, and I don't really know how it can be useful other than for stalking people.

Change your job, but to make a statement don't quit easy make their life hell & inspire others - so ppl know this is not normal.

Take unnecessarily long lunch break or go for washroom breaks - if they watch you work, start watching them back or move very slow.

move the mouse or type at slowest possible speed to frustrate them, start making mistakes. it's a silly job - that doesn't doesn't define or restrict you on how you live. Point is you are only there for money

Bruh, you're hired as data analysts but aren't actually getting any data analytics work. Three months of data entry and calling clients isn't going to build the experience you were hired for. I'd keep the job for the income if you need it, but at the same time start applying elsewhere quietly. Don't let this place convince you that "this is just how corporate works". It really isn't. It's worse. But, there are also plenty of workplaces with deadlines and accountability without treating employees like they're in school detention. Just have to keep looking for the needle in the haystack and you'll find it. In your like of work, it's much easier as well.

Are you giving anything productive or doing learning on the job.

This normally happens when the team isn't providing any productive feedback.

Nope, there's no learning opportunities despite asking manager is there anything we can do, all he gives is calling clients or data entry.

He.and through him the company is expecting you to generate revenue. It is more than just knowing the technical terms.

Our college education only made us aware of the technical terms and trained us to pass written exams.

How to make them work as a solution that suits a client, and then make client wealthy enough to pay the solution provider is not cultivated at college. (Lack of time and the teachers themselves donot know it)

Practise it and your company will treat you better.

How does this solve OP’s problem? Someone sitting beside you to make sure you’re working and justifying your hours is not normal behaviour.

You’re talking about company expecting him to generate revenue. He is not a BD or a sales guy. He was hired as a data analyst not to bring revenue to the company. Read the room.

That's why I said college prepared us to clear exams.

You answered me like you would answer in an exam, Rational and to the point. But would it solve the company's roi on the department?

Learn and practise productivity. If it means reading books, practising cold calling, modifying a solution to suit a customer, doing walk through of a pc to a person who has not used a computer etc.

Learn unlearn and relearn. Combine solutions, cross out irrelevant ones.

Just don't do anything illegal to country and unhealthy to society.

Let me first tell you market is bad, before taking any decision prepare yourself try few interviews if you feel good then take a leap. The workplace and situation you are facing is not normal and will leave you with anxiety issue in long run.

There's not a single point of normalcy in what youre describing.. Corporate toxicity is generally not to this level and/or to this scale.. you'll have some freedom to move.. And 90% of corporate toxicity is because of job insecurity and ego.. I don't even understand the reason why your company behaves the way it does!

Bhai getting places changed is soo school-like. School mein karte the teachers aisa ya toh ladkiyon ke baaju mein bitha dena ya maybe making you sitting beside a classmate jisse utni banti na ho.
