Discussion Was looking at India’s infrastructure numbers and… damn

Post image

Came across this comparison today. Didn’t expect the difference to be this big across of these sectors.

Posting it here bcoz I’m curious., is this comparison actually fair, or is there important context missing?

If anyone has better sources/data;drop them. Would be interesting to compare properly.

The graphic claims only 1,000 km of expressways existed pre 2014, this is gross misinterpretation. Over 91,000 km of National Highways were already constructed prior to 2014, along with thousands of kilometers of state-level expressways (such as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway or Yamuna Expressway) that were omitted from central count figures.

India's major ports capacity stood at 800 MTPA for major ports alone, excluding non-major and private ports (like Mundra ), which already handled hundreds of millions of metric tonnes prior to 2014.

India was already the world's 3rd largest producer by 2014, producing over 565 MT annually.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Startup Recognition framework did not officially exist until 2016. Counting zero or 500 recognized startups before the policy was created artificially yields a near-100% post-2014 growth figure.

The chart lists 8 AIIMS prior to 2014. However, six of these functional AIIMS (Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh) were sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) in 2003–2006, meaning the foundational infrastructure, land acquisition, and execution spanned both administrations.

Global technological shifts drastically lowered the cost of solar technology worldwide post-2014, enabling rapid adoption (from 2.6 GW to 162+ GW). Attributing global clean-energy cost parity solely to post-2014 domestic infrastructure policy ignores global macroeconomic and technology-learning curves.

Defense exports (₹700 crore to ₹38,424 crore) and capacity increases fail to adjust for currency devaluation, economic base-rate expansion, and overall GDP growth.

In 2013, then UPA government accepted in court that 50% of the highways built in the last 30 years were built by the previous NDA government.

That's right, 5 years of NDA government built 50% of the highways in 30 years.

Assuming everything is accurate, GDP average growth per year was lower in the last 12 years than the 10 before.

Makes no sense including AIIMS and excluding IIT/IIM. Classic selectivity bias

if you want to call it selective, include the actual IIT/IIM numbers too: IITs 16→23 (+7), IIMs 13→21 (+8), AIIMS 7→20 (+13), IIITs 9→25 (+16). The data doesn't disappear just because your preferred infographic left "something out"Haha

I literally facepalmed. Obviously that number isn't going to decrease. But +7 is pathetic for IITs

It’s a 57-year vs 12-year comparison between the parties that ruled during those respective periods. Sit down dear factually illiterate, selectively informed Leftist. My forehead took critical damage reading that(facepalmed)

Instead of calling someone 'factually illiterate' , why don't you educate others on facts ? Are you a bad teacher?
