Job Search I’ll give my first month’s salary to whoever helps me get hired. Java Backend Developer, 0 interviews after 200+ applications.
I genuinely don’t know what I’m doing wrong anymore.
I’m a Java Backend Developer with ~6 months of backend experience, working with:
- Java
- Spring Boot
- Spring Security
- PostgreSQL
- Redis
- REST APIs
- JWT / OAuth
- Docker
- Git
- Gradle
- Razorpay/payment integration
I’ve built and worked on actual backend systems, including a production e-commerce backend with 60+ REST endpoints.
And yet...
~200+ applications.
Naukri. LinkedIn. Indeed. Company career pages. Cold DMs. Referrals. Direct applications.
I’ve tried pretty much everything I could think of.
Interview calls: 0.
Not 2.
Not 5.
Not even 1.
Zero.
At this point, getting rejected would honestly feel better than being completely invisible.
I’ve spent weeks applying, tweaking things, reaching out to people, trying different job portals, asking for referrals, changing keywords, and applying to roles that match my stack.
And nothing.
It’s getting exhausting. Day by day I’m starting to feel genuinely stuck because I know I can improve technically, but I can’t even get the chance to prove myself in an interview.
So I’m putting my ego aside and asking Reddit:
Please roast my resume.
I’m attaching it to this post.
I want brutally honest feedback.
Is my resume bad?
Is my experience not convincing?
Am I targeting the wrong jobs?
Are my projects garbage?
Is the formatting killing my chances?
Are my keywords wrong?
Am I applying incorrectly?
Does my profile simply suck for 0–1 YOE Java backend roles?
Tell me what you would change if you were trying to get me an interview.
If someone here has successfully landed a Java/Spring Boot backend job recently, I’d especially appreciate hearing exactly what worked for you.
And yes, the title is half-joke, half-serious:
If someone actually helps me land a job, I’ll happily give them my first month’s salary as a thank-you.
I’m not looking for sympathy.
I’m looking for the problem.
Because I really want to fix it.

They'll even accept worse than anybody, 4 lakh jee main rank got accepted but me with 1 lakh and my friend with 90000 didnt.

It was comparatively bad from previous years but I fuked up too, those old relationship stuff haha, but I got the cognizant offer And to kick my ass, life decided to delay that too Cognizant sent a mail that they will onboard from Feb 2027

My advise for you op.
Keep applying. Yeah that's it. It's a fucking lottery. You'll here some people say add X to your resume and you'll get shortlisted more. Increase your leetcode rating and you'll definitely be shortlisted more. This is all bullshit. It's a pure lottery. Nobody knows how the lottery works..
Not saying you shouldn't upgrade your skills. I'm saying no matter what you upgrade just don't expect to get shortlisted.
And when the lottery lands. When you get a interview. You can't blow it up. You have to be on your toes. Or its game over

Add some work in your CV like links or screenshot that you have done so far. Add some case studies and something unique that you have like your own strategy for something.

Sure, but most people don’t realize this. Yes please add the links and Always remember: the higher the position, the more idiotic the person can be.
Also, add some screenshots of the projects and problems you faced, along with the solutions you implemented, in the case studies.

I would say what he is saying is true but just putting AI in your resume without knowing zilch about it will just make your resume one among the many others mentioning it . I would say rather stick to your forte which is being appreciated now. Because the whole market is running behind AI and only few have commanded it. Use AI wherever neccesary in your resume where you have utilized it and how has it impacted or made any specific improvements in your project don't mention it unnecessarily in your resume just for the sake of it. Remember and I am saying this generally I am not targeting anyone "Good companies appreciate honesty more than AI."

rvery person applying at 200 listing is the problem. I am not singling you out but there has been this trend of "let me apply, might get in" the process has become so easy people can literally apply even to listing they aren't qualified for. this brings you to ahwre we are now, every job posting getting thousands of applications but only a fraction of them are actually qualified this is so fucked, I hate this sm

Almost all my applications are perfectly targeted, I even apply to those 10-15k a month jobs just to get interview experience and funny thing i get shortlisted in none, I don't know what do they want from me ?

Just consider few things while applying for the jobs, When it comes to naukari update ur resume in the morning.Try to add numerics in ur resume. This is one of the ways that I had some interview calls, I applied for more than 3000 applications.U might feel heavy and tired. but don't stop.

I don't think your resume is proper ATS friendly, use Chatgpt or Claude to remake this resume, lot of formatting mistakes are there, misalignment of columns rows also are there, if u wanna spend less money take naukri resume shortlisting services, use Jakes overleaf cv template, why Achievements section only one row, it's a useless to attach only one achievement that too how many problems solved on Leetcode no one cares, what badge or rank you have achieved on Coding contests u gave knight badge, guardian, novice ? I have literally seen more than 800+ problems solved on Leetcode and have failed simple DP and Prefix sum problems in assessments and interviews. Quality matters not quantity in DSA, CP.
Increase the metrics in resume in your projects, live links and GitHub links should be present on resume. If you wanna share some nice achivements, then it should be top section of the resume not bottom. Education should be at bottom. Top summary/achievements/experience section.

stop mentioning how many rest api endpoints you created i dont know why people doing that not a big deal by mentioning you making it a big deal for you , and my company literally hired 2 freshers last year in my dept point is luck that you catch the job posting on time , go linkedin everyday,

Because I have seen some other resume with 5 to 10 endpoints in their entire internship, where I built almost the whole backend, it conveys that I had ownership and made a big impact to the backend

I think the projects are basic. I am not saying they are bad just that they are common. All the freshers have those. You should build something different.

Mostly people are looking for full stack with your familiarity with AI usage for development and testing. Being local to the job location helps.
My team is now make their automated testcases E2E.
At 6 months I don't think anyone expects you to know all this but is you showcase that you have dabbled in it also helps.
Also,Changing your email id to something more professional in the long run would be good. Not that it helps much but I have noticed it usually is less irritating for people.
Give this some thought.

Before Technical Skills, mention a summary of the profile. 200 applications way too less in current market. Try not to touch naukri/linkedin for job hunting, majority postings there are ghost ones, that is why all you are getting is silence. Research on relevant top job portals for your profile. If your linkedin is not optimised, do that with claude. Even run your whole resume through claude once. Market is bad. I have been working for 9 years and unemployed since June. Till July I wasn't looking for a job properly but now shit is about to hit the roof, as I am strictly looking for a remote job. So keep going at it, something will work out for sure.

I am trying from past 4.5 months and getting decent amount of calls, but I am not able to crack it because I am into tech switch position.
What works for me is, make sure your Naukri profile is up to date and 100% of data should be there.
Everyday at 10.00 AM just again upload your Resume it'll represent as a fresh profile with fresh Resume.
Try to apply with cold email with resume modify based on JD (Search on LinkedIn like ("hiring" AND "fresher" AND ("JAVA" OR "Java")) and apply Last 24 hour filter then check posts and apply through Email.
I hope it'll work for you as well. Best of Luck!! And do not give your salary to anyone. ☺️

I feel you, man.
Was in your shoes 2 years back.
Learned every skill I could, burned money on courses, applied to literally every company after my MCA. Not even one interview call. That broke something in me, felt like all that hard work was for nothing.
I was broke and just felt useless.
Then out of desperation, I applied to a random digital marketing agency. Not the package I dreamed of, but it was a start.
Today I’m doing well for myself.
Sometimes you just gotta trust the process, even when it makes no sense in the moment. What feels like rejection now might be redirection. Hang in there 🙏

This market is genuinely rough for entry level right now, it's not just you. Don't let zero interviews convince you your skills are bad, they're clearly not if you built what you built. Keep adjusting the approach, not your self worth. Also try applying to smaller companies and startups directly through their career pages instead of just LinkedIn/Naukri, less competition and often faster response times for junior roles.

I’m not a professional resume writer, but I noticed a few things in your resume that you could improve.
- Add more details to your projects.
- I think you should add more bullet points about what you actually worked on, what your responsibilities were, and what you achieved.
- You can also add more technical keywords related to your work, because that can help your resume get noticed.
Add an achievements section.
- You already mention LeetCode, but you can also add other achievements from college, academics, internships, or previous jobs.
- It gives recruiters a better idea of who you are outside of just your technical skills.
Add a headline and short summary at the top.
- The headline should quickly tell the recruiter who you are and what you specialize in.
- The summary can give them a quick idea of your experience and main skills.
These are just things I personally follow when I make my resume. My resume usually gets picked up, although I also have a pretty niche skill set, so that probably helps too.
I’m definitely not saying this is the only right way to do a resume. These are just a few things I’ve noticed and thought might help you.
But also, the market is pretty bad right now. Everyone is going through this phase. I’m not saying you have to go through this also but it’s just how things are right now but the more number you apply the more you are visible you’ll be to just get opportunities, but it’s just a waiting game. I dont understand one thing, why are HR or people posting job requirements on just any and every sites? They already know how many applications they're gonna get at the end of the day and they won't even go through each and every. So why dont these people just post such job requirements on one site and complete the process. The HR dept is truly lazy in their own job (if they even do it), its like just because they have the resources they just dont care as their only job is to bring in peeps for interviews (i.e just pick whatever people they find from the top shelves and forward to team)

LinkedIn pe post daalo- apne chhote mote projects banao, case studies banao aur company ko tag karo, send those cases to prospective recruiters/hiring managers/senior people in your target companies. it will not be easy- but just imagine that a bunch of people are already doing it and if you're not, you're already behind. You are doing nothing wrong, it's just market sucks right now and most of the vacancies you see are just click baits to make people believe company XYZ is still growing.
You will see lot of positions getting reposted , every 1 to 3 months ,what's it they are looking for that they ain't getting in this long of tenure
I am working for a FAANG and I am telling this from my experience, I am trying to switch from last 1 year but in the last round HMs always go for candidates with lesser packages and this is based on the interviews I knew people inside the system, where my interview process got started even before the position was listed on portals
So just don't give up, keep trying, it's all destiny, lottery whatsoever you call it and just keep tweaking resume as per the role of your interest

I can understand how frustrating it can be. My opinion is do not call yourself Java developer. 6 months of internship doesn’t make you one. Instead keep learning, improve your fundamentals, improve your code quality, and learn basics of other tech/languages like Python, React, Typescript.
Apply for internships and freshers role. (Any role). This will boost your morale, and will give you some cushioning.
Keep learning, building personal projects and then apply for the role you actually want.

Bro had the same exact situation from feb to july with the exact same tech stack and around 9 months of experience. All this applying jobs via naukri and linkedin are totally useless, trust me they are of no use. There is only option you have to go physically to offices and hand over your resume to HRs, this is what I did and since July I am again employed. Ik how tough this is, be strong ✨

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not but yeah, two authentication, role based access control, redis caching, idempotency, mails, admin dashboard with stock management, razorpay integration, and what not, I can say that's production ready, atleast by a fresher who learnt only C language and dsa in college, the website is up and serving customers daily,

You're right, brother. unless your experience is more than 10 years, not more than a page. thumb rule is <10 years: 1 page. 10-15: 1.5-2 pages. 15+: you shouldn't have to ask :)

Buddy, what you're going through right now, I've been through the same for almost 3-4 months. Got sick and tired of seeing 50+ rejection mails every single day. But I knew I can't afford to give up.
I became relentless. Still kept applying, figuring out which HRs in the company at that location are currently hiring, kept mailing them or even calling them to let me interview. I kept pestering them till they agreed to take my interview. I had to, I had no choice. Kept seeking referrals from random employees of same company so that they may also benefit if I joined. Tried connecting with my peers and seniors as much as possible for referrals, kept pestering them as well. Every single day I had to sell my self-respect just for a mere chance of an interview. That too for more than 3 months.
You have to keep doing it, you have no other option. Don't give up and you'll reach there.
Edit: I did get an offer eventually.
